I've been using the same old grey colour since Win95 and would like a different colour. What's the best way of going about it? I've just installed the XP Zune theme from Microsoft from here: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078 and it looks pretty good but does it use up more memory or CPU time than the classic theme?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to download new Windows Colour Schemes. do they have them anywhere online?I mean the colour scheme of the taskbars and windows that you change in the appearence settings. (Windows classic, Teal, Brick, maple etc.) I don't really like any of the schemes, but I don't want to bother with Style XP, or Windows Blinds or any of those programs again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThese past couple of days I have noticed that my PC has slow down considerably and everytime my PC is turned on or rebooted, the taskbar would change to a dull boxy grey colour. When I look into the display properties and all the themes have disappeared! I have googled and tried all avenue on the internet to fix this but with no luck. Can someone please help me? Do I have some virus on my PC or something? I have Windows XP on my desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my desktop. I keep placing my icons where I want them on the desktop and every time I either reboot or refresh the desktop they jumble up again. The only thing I have checked in the properties menu is "Show Desktop Icons". I have installed "Icon Restore" and it works until I run a program, open a browser, or even open "My Computer". When I close whatever I am working on and return to the desktop, everything is jumbled again. In addition, the taskbar properties keep changing on reboot. On the Properties menu I have "Keep the taskbar on top" etc., "Group similar" etc., and "Show Quick Launch" checked. I also have several items in the notifications area set to "always show". On reboot, the "Show Quick Launch" becomes unchecked, and the notification area items either change to "hide when inactive" or become part of the "Past Items" list.

I DO NOT have "Use a network time server" checked. (Attempting to use a time server always fails anyway.)Where is the system getting this time from and why is it constantly changing back?

I have a broadband internet connection and some times i get this error and some other times it takes very long to load a site. Also, my IIS settings keep changing almost every time i start/restart my PC and that its a pain because I work on it very much.I am very concerned about it. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer started acting up, and I couldn't play any games.WoW mainly -(Yes I play it) and Cod4, So finally I managed to fix it myself and this is what I did. Went into device manager, disabled then enabled my GFX card, Then I have to go into display properties and change 3D acceleration to 0 then back to full, Also when I do this it corrects my resolution.
However, EVERY time I power down my computer, I have to do this which get's very annoying
Why does the time and date keep changing. I have done (I think) everything right manually and thro internet time to correct this. changes to proper time then next time I log on my computer everything is wrong again.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Taskbar and Icons take a long time to appear on the desktop. This started a couple of days ago, but I have since restored the system back to well before this problem started with no luck. I have run AVG and Stinger anti virus scans, as well as MS anti-spyware, Spybot, Adaware, Bazooka, SpywareBlaster, and RegScrubXP, but no help. When my desktop appears, I notice under Processes in Task Manager, that only about half of the 40 or so processes have started. Then after a minute or longer the rest of the processes load. This may be normal, I don't know. Could the processes loading sequence have changed, causing the Taskbar and Icons to load at a later time? Also listed among the processes is Isass.exe which has a scary ring to it. I'll have to Google that one.

I tried changing it back to the wallpaper, but even though the wallpaper seemed to change, i still could only see a black screen. The wallpaper is there, because when i close a game it appears for a second, then gets back to the black screen. It's like it is being covered by the background colour. Everything is still working fine, and i can use all the icons on my desktop, however a black desktop is very annoying

In the standard XP them(blue) the highlight colour is a strong blue while Explorer has the focus. When it loses the focus it becomes a very pale mushroom that is almost impossible for me to see.I would like to change that but cannot find the correct display element in Display properties/appearance/advanced.

After reopening My screen had gone to some weird colours which made text look all shadowed and hard to read. I managed to change both colour and contrast to make it readable, but it still has grey lines across the screen. I changed the monitor but it made no difference.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes when the computer has been running for a while, and especially when I am running a program which switches the screen resolution (so it would seem), the screen will suddenly go blank. Not just black blank either - the colour varies from a sludgy green to a sludgy red, but I've also seen white and black variations of the problem. I've also noticed that just before the login screen appears when I boot into XP, the screen goes to the sludgy red colour for about a second before it seems to recover. The computer does not freeze or become unresponsive - I can still shut down or restart manually using keyboard hotkeys - I just can't see anything other than a single screen of colour.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWith XP Pro SP2, I enable "Group similar taskbar buttons". I generally have my taskbar stretched 2 to 3 rows even so. Sometimes, when I have a lot of windows open, and the similar taskbar buttons group and stack themselves, so 1 button contains 2 or 3 open tasks, I can't get any action out of the buttons that represent multiple open tasks.
Any of the taskbar buttons that represent a single open task are fine. But any buttons that represent multiple open tasks don't respond. I have to do Alt -
Tab to bring a task to the front, if it's one of the tasks on a button that represents a group. Or I can go to Taskbar Properties, and deselect "Group similar taskbar buttons".
I've just switched from 98 to XP. I find now that the window designations in the taskbar for my *browser windows only* are severely and unaccountably truncated. My browser is IE6. Even if there's only one window open, if it's a browser window, only one letter will display. Other windows will properly display the full name. I've turned taskbar grouping on and off with no change. I've also run the SFC utility, with no change. There is no such problem in my Win98 machine, and my security settings (and all other settings) are the same. I don't wish to upgrade to IE7.

XP still groups the similar buttons (e.g., Word doc1, Word doc2, etc.) instead of having these ungrouped.

Every other issues, as starting XP's windows and I suppose, every other pages that I open daily, look normal. I start believing my son, but I think this is the funniest finding I have heard about and worries me a little, that is not so little.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAt startup 2 days ago my desktop colour scheme was reset to classic with grey taskbar etc. When I tried to change it back to silver I found that the windows xp style in display properties appearance windows and buttons, was gone and only windows classic style was present. Confused I though maybe I needed to do a windows update. I proceeded to do so and while I was at it updated to SP3. After doing this I could successfully change my colour scheme back to silver and change the size of my active title bar and menu font etc back to the way they were. But now whenever I restart my PC the colour scheme has reverted back to the default blue xp theme and the size changes back to default as well.I'm at a aloss because I have windows auto updates turned off and had installed no new software the night before this happened.I should also add that I have already done a virus scan, Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan and a Spybot search and destroy scan but found nothing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI want a single desktop click to enable/disable windows XP taskbar auto hide.I can do this if I write a script for the AutoHotkey macro tool to open the relevant dialog box and then check or uncheck the appropriate check box.I'd like to open the dialog box with a command line from AutoHotkey, or a similar operation. Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. But I can't find "Taskbar and Start Menu".
