What is the name of the display element for a highlighted item in Windows Explorer for when Explorer does NOT have the focus? In the standard XP them(blue) the highlight colour is a strong blue while Explorer has the focus. When it loses the focus it becomes a very pale mushroom that is almost impossible for me to see.I would like to change that but cannot find the correct display element in Display properties/appearance/advanced.
I have set a file to be opened when I double click it. However as soon as I simply selected any video file (have noticed this problem mostly with avi files), explorer crashes. Any clues? Can some help me... want to rename my video files but simply can't because I select the file and even before I press F2 or right click (to rename)the same explorer crash problem

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I my computer boots, the images, especially the fonts of the icon names, are blurred & out of focus. After a while it gets normal. Since once it got o.k. after I started defragmenting a volume, I am trying it everytime with success. However, maybe it's a co-incidence & the blurring goes away automatically after a time. Can this be a monitor problem? I am using a LG Monitor which is otherwise perfectly alright & a Win XP SP2 O.S.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running a dual monitor setup with with Windows XP and a NX6600GT-VTD128 graphics card. Though in my searches, I've come to the repeated answer that what I'm wanting is impossible at this moment in time I suppose it never hurts to ask anyway.
I want to be able to run full screen applications on one monitor and switch to applications on the other without the fullscreen app collapsing to the desktop. Is there any way to do this?
I understand that the alternative to this to just run the full screen app in windowed mode, but not all programs support this. Is there any third party software that can force a program to run in windowed mode?
I'd greatly appreciate any insight anyone may have..thank you for taking the time to help me.
When you click on icon on your desktop it highlights in grey (the icon and the text underneath) - is there a way to turn that off?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am just recently having problems when I am on a webpage trying to highlight some text and then copy it somewhere else.My problem is: sometimes after placing my cursor near the text I am trying to highlight and then copy. it will not highlight at all. Or either it does highlight a bit then stops and will not continue to highlight the text so I am able to copy it.How can I fix this problem. I have never had this problem til just a couple of weeks ago.

I tried changing it back to the wallpaper, but even though the wallpaper seemed to change, i still could only see a black screen. The wallpaper is there, because when i close a game it appears for a second, then gets back to the black screen. It's like it is being covered by the background colour. Everything is still working fine, and i can use all the icons on my desktop, however a black desktop is very annoying

After reopening My screen had gone to some weird colours which made text look all shadowed and hard to read. I managed to change both colour and contrast to make it readable, but it still has grey lines across the screen. I changed the monitor but it made no difference.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes when the computer has been running for a while, and especially when I am running a program which switches the screen resolution (so it would seem), the screen will suddenly go blank. Not just black blank either - the colour varies from a sludgy green to a sludgy red, but I've also seen white and black variations of the problem. I've also noticed that just before the login screen appears when I boot into XP, the screen goes to the sludgy red colour for about a second before it seems to recover. The computer does not freeze or become unresponsive - I can still shut down or restart manually using keyboard hotkeys - I just can't see anything other than a single screen of colour.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAt startup 2 days ago my desktop colour scheme was reset to classic with grey taskbar etc. When I tried to change it back to silver I found that the windows xp style in display properties appearance windows and buttons, was gone and only windows classic style was present. Confused I though maybe I needed to do a windows update. I proceeded to do so and while I was at it updated to SP3. After doing this I could successfully change my colour scheme back to silver and change the size of my active title bar and menu font etc back to the way they were. But now whenever I restart my PC the colour scheme has reverted back to the default blue xp theme and the size changes back to default as well.I'm at a aloss because I have windows auto updates turned off and had installed no new software the night before this happened.I should also add that I have already done a virus scan, Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan and a Spybot search and destroy scan but found nothing.

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.

Problem is I cannot open Windows Explorer from desktop or any other location, from either drive. I get a message that says it "generates errors." And that it is keeping a log, presumably for use on some Day of Judgment.
