I have got this request from one of our Senior Group Members: I am desperately trying to change the font colour on my desktop from white to a colour that is more easily read. I have Windows XP and am now wondering if white printing on the desktop is not "set in concrete".

When i use the black vista theme it kinda interferes with the black font of the desktop toolbar. I right click on desktop, select properties, click on desktop tab i then go to try and browse wallpapers but am unable as the box and scroll are frozen. I also have a problem when i type into run. "regedit" as soon as the registry opens it closes again so i am unable to edit the registry or look through it? This picture is of what my desktop wallpapers looks like..

However, when I log into the computer with my own user name and password, I get the old NT view. I get an NT view on the rest of the computers in house except the rest of them really are running NT. How do I change the view on my desktop to look like XP?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAt startup 2 days ago my desktop colour scheme was reset to classic with grey taskbar etc. When I tried to change it back to silver I found that the windows xp style in display properties appearance windows and buttons, was gone and only windows classic style was present. Confused I though maybe I needed to do a windows update. I proceeded to do so and while I was at it updated to SP3. After doing this I could successfully change my colour scheme back to silver and change the size of my active title bar and menu font etc back to the way they were. But now whenever I restart my PC the colour scheme has reverted back to the default blue xp theme and the size changes back to default as well.I'm at a aloss because I have windows auto updates turned off and had installed no new software the night before this happened.I should also add that I have already done a virus scan, Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan and a Spybot search and destroy scan but found nothing.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi recently had a couple of trojans on my computer. they started to make my computer crash alot and they changed my background to a huge warning sign..it had said warning your computer is infested with many trojans malware and adware. i ran alot of scans and now i am very sure that its all cleaned up. But when i try to access my taskmanager i cannot. i have read another thread wich told me to type in taskmngr.exe or something like that the run thing but it just said task manager has been disabled by admin. how to reenable it and i am the admin. also when i try to change my background via right click>properties>desktop where i should be able to scroll through the backgrounds is all locked up and disabled.

An office laptop running XP Home was riddled with malware - spyfighter, pcadprotector, CSW.HomeSearch etc. I've managed to remove them all after a full day of hassle but I'm still left with a frustrating issue in that I cannot adjust the desktop background. The properties box is greyed out for backgrounds. We have a simple peer to peer network (workgroup in fact) and no internal security or policies. What can I do before I throw the thing out of the window?

View 20 Replies View RelatedTrying to help a friend of mine. He had added a shortcut to his desktop, says was active shortcut, ever since then has not been able to change desktop, its white (none) . I went to the sreen to change it and selected the one he wanted . I then closed the system and rebooted, when it first comes up,the background is correct, but when loads icons it reverts to a white background.

I immediately shut down my computer, restarted in Safe Mode With Networking, and ran every single thing I had. I ran Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Advanced System Care, and Glary Utilities. I thought I got it. I restarted my computer in normal mode and all seemed well until I noticed I cannot change my desktop theme or wallpaper. When I change the theme to "Windows Classic", it works, but when I restart my computer it's right back to the XP theme (green start button/blue taskbars)

Normally it comes right again after a reboot. This time though it won't change back. Seems it's stuck on Tahoma or something. how to change it back to whatever the default system font is?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Home Svc with svc pk. I have tried numerous times to change the fonts in OUTLOOK and nothing. I was always able to do this before.A little background. I ran into the same problem a poster here did with being booted out when I signed on. I kept getting the blue screen indicating a stop error. I worked for hours with MS and believe it was an ordeal because in the end I diagnosed and fixed the problem which had to do with disk scanning. Since then my settings are different and I have had to work really hard but I can't seem to get the font and font size correctly in my emails PLUS they are all my messages are now BOLDED.

When I click on it in my profile I'm taken to a page in the Feedback forum but it doesn't seem to be their either.?At most sites I cannot changing the font size. I have tried using Ctrl > scroll wheel and View > Text size But the text does not change. When I use Ctrl > scroll wheel the View > Text size setting does change. When I attempt to change font size the scroll bar moves moves tiny bit as though the font size was [going] to change.I am able to change the font size on very few sites. On the CNET site the font is much smaller than others. In fact it is so small I can just barely make it out with my reading glasses. But after a moment I have to stop as my eyes start hurting bad.I am able to change font size in Word and such. The font size in this Message body box is normal but the font size in the Subject title box is tiny.I am using XP Home SP2 and IE6. No viruses, ad/spy ware, etc.I would appreciate any help to fix and/or understand what may have caused this problem. If anyone responds please send it in email to me via my profile as I probably won't be able to make it out in the forum.

I went to properties and changed the font size to large, and nothing happened, their still small. I even changed the screen resolution on the 'properties', their still small.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomehow my daughter has gotten several of the Asian fonts on her computer. In Wordpad and WordPerfect they come up at the beginning of her font list as Arial Unicode MS, @MingLui, @NSimSun, @PMingLui and @SimSun. I have tried deleting them but they are write-protected.When you go to the font list the fonts are all there but many of them are invisible. I have tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it but to no avail. I uninstalled it tonight but figured I would try and solve the deletion problem before reinstalling - in case they are connected.
