Notice considerable lag when doing the following simple tasks: use the dialog boxes to browse folders (save as, etc) is slow ,double clicking my computer or any folders is slow, right click and create new folders is slow, clicking START button and going to programs is slow
View 14 RepliesWhen I double click using the left mouse button on a file or folder, the file or folder does not open. Instead the search window comes up. This has just happened recently. Right clicking on the mouse gives me the option of opening the file or folder.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer jams every now and again for a minute or 2 depending on what i do for E.g if i press ALT and TAB to quikly change wat im doing it jams. also whenever i click on something like a folder or shorcut of a program , instead of opening the file or folder the proprties come up ( this problem is now fixed but it might be a sympton of a virus or sumthing ?).i think its cuz of a file i downloaded off the internet.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen folders are double clicked, they are supposed to open. But mine don't! Just randomly one day they stopped openning. Instead they open the "search in folder" window. When I right click the folder, instead of Open being the top function, Search... is the top, so double clicking automatically performs this function. View 3 Replies View RelatedI had some spyware/viruses/malware recently, and they've now all been cleaned up with internet security software, but I still have a lingering problem: when I double-click on a folder, instead of the folder opening, a new window opens and it's a search window, with the destination folder (ie the one I just clicked on) as a value in the parameter "look in:". The only way I can just open a folder is to right-click, and select open.
When I right-click on a folder, the menu reads: "Search (bolded) / Open / Explore" etc. which doesn't seem right.
I tried to fix it by changing some options in Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. There are two kinds of folder, "File Folder" and "Folder". In the advanced options for "File Folder", the only action it lists is "find"... I'm not sure if this is where the problem is or if this is normal? I tried to add a new action, but it wanted me to select an application to perform the action and I have no idea... In the advanced options for "Folder", it looks to be normal, it lists the actions "explore" and "open" (bolded).
The only folder that seems unaffected by this problem is the "Documents" folder on the desktop, and any shortcuts that point to folders.
When i double click on a folder in say "my documents", a search window opens instead of opening an open window. If i right mouse click on a folder the word "Search" is shown at the top of the list in Bold instead of "Open". how can i fix this?

I also noticed that I cannot read any of the names of the icons in My Computer. All I can see is the icon itself but no label. I've never had this problem before even after re-installing a OS.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly.At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?

(About 1200 mp3 files all inside these 100 folders...all inside 1 folder if that makes any sense)I'm thinking about moving all those mp3's outside there folders so that i have just one continuous stream of mp3's. Basically i want just my mp3's inside the main folder without their individual artist folder.

1. Opening any folder in the same window (folder options set to 'open folder in same window') is incredibly slow (minutes) but opening any folder in a new window or setting folder options to 'open each folder in a new window' is perfectly normal.
2. Internet Explorer takes minutes to load a new page (you can see that it's loaded in the staus bar but you can hear the computer grinding for minutes until it displays the new page). Firefox is just fine.Both of these issues appeared at exactly the same time.
3. Probably unrelated but windows installer is not functional? (I haven't looked into this much yet)
Nothing unusual is running in task manager and none of the normal processes are running extra hard. I have done the basic spybot, adaware, and regfix scans with a couple files removed but none that affected this issue.

Since a couples of days, when I clic on a folder into the left panel of Windows explorer, it takes really long and is Very, very slow to show up the related contained folders and/or its contents in my Windows explorer's right panel. I have a Pentium4 processor and additional 3GB of rams I also tried to adjust my PC for best performances in "advanced" Performances/properties of MY Computer.

However, I am REALLY SLOW, when opening folders, and going back and forth using the back and forth buttons in XP. I click, I get an hour glass for a seconds then it initiates. I have cleared out my Prefetch folder, changed a few registry settings, yada yada. I just cant figure it out. This is a fairly new install, just did a zero fill on my HD about a month ago.

I get the black WINDOWS XP screen, then, the screen goes BLANK for anywhere from 3-5 minutes before it proceeds. View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.

I'm running XP Pro Edition and when I double click on a ZIP file it does nothing (it used to though).
I've tried associating ZIP files with WinZip and PicoZip and still the same problem.I am able to open WinZip or PicoZip and then open ZIP files from the program.
whenever I try to double click a file, Ie. a .txt or a small .jpg from explorer it takes aprrox 1 minute to open the file, it's certainly not the capability of the machine as it has just started occuring, and all my other programs are working fine.
