Adding Changing Content To Background
Sep 26, 2008I am trying to figure out how to add changing content to my background. I decided to use the Web option in the customize desktop area of the display settings. I made two test attempts trying different things out to see if it would do what I wanted. I had no trouble and so I went ahead and made my image. Now when I went to add the actual image in it let me, but wouldn't save the changes after I logged off. It works fine while I am still logged in, but as soon as I log off my changes are gone. So I thought that maybe there was a limit on how many items I could have in the list at any given time. I had no need for my test objects, so I deleted them from the display control panel. Now for the surprise - Those changes don't save either. After I log off the test objects are restored. I now thought that maybe it was some kind of safety feature so you don't remove it by mistake. I went through and found where the registry keys for it were located and deleted all of them. This only effected my current session - After I logged off, the test ones are put back and my actual one is removed, from both the control panel and the registry.

In order to use anything, I must go find the program on my hard drive and then choose the program responsible for running that program. I've tried creating new shortcuts, but to no avail. Aug 30, 2007My Hp DV5000 was left on all night and when I came in to work a blue screen was up with the HP background and an error message saying It cannot find the files weblogon I clicked ok and then it popped up and siad it is missing LSSAS files.I can somewhat start it in the safe mode but it kicks it off after a while.

Sep 16, 2007A friend has a Compaq laptop running Windows XP. When you power up the system, the Windows XP logo screen comes up and then the desktop background comes up but it stops there. You never get any desktop icons or taskbar so there is no way to navigate. If anyone has any suggestions on how to debug this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Background images with bitmap icon will display in preview, but not those with what appears to be a film icon. Mar 19, 2006I am having difficulty changing my desktop wallpaper. No matter what I do, I cannot put a different picture or wallpaper on the desktop. I have already tried using the right click on the desktop and going into the properties that way. It won't even let me select any of the options for the wallpaper. And I used to be able to go to my photo files and just pick one, right click on it and select the "set as desktop background" option. But now it won't let me change it at all.

Sep 13, 2005When I login into Windows XP pro following a normal boot up, within a couple of seconds the top half of my screen cannot be accessed my desktop shrinks about half way down the screen.If I load an application it only opens /maximises in that portion of the screen.However, the actual desktop background remains unchanged!
It very weird because if I login under a different user this does not happen.It seems that my screen is acting as virtual screen?I have checked the settings and nothing seems different.

Sep 4, 2007i was working on a computer the other day helping someone "clean it up" and make it run faster. i did all the normal "clean up" stuff, got her back online, pc running much faster, everyone's happy.except for one thing: one of her original complaints was that her desktop background had recently reverted to all RED with this image in the middle that looks something like a biohazard logo. i tried changing the desktop background via the control panel, and it changed momentarily and then reverted back only moments later. I ran avg anti-virus and spybot to sweep her machine of any bugs/viruses (and found quite a few). when i left the red desktop was gone.

Nothing exotic.One of them, after being left with a half dozen tabs open in Chrome, and not much else going on other than AVAST Antivirus running in background, upon checking back in with the Screen Saver "On" [starfield], no password needed, the screen/display freezes on the background image, and nothing else pops up on screen except the mouse cursor.
