I went into my computer and changed my screen appearance, I think I clicked Windows custom, when I restarted mycomputer all the icons appeared on my screen but when I click on the start button no programmes appear. So I cannot go into system restore to put my computer back to it's orginal setting.
I can access email and the internet but when I get web pages up I am no longer able to do anything.
My Laptop has a problem with my xp desktop.I am unable to customize the display, all the icons now default to the left side of the screen. No matter what I do to control this, I can set out the icons in the positions I have historically had them and they will stay until I attempt to open a File or connect to a website then everything flies back to the left side. I have checked and rechecked all the settings and also compared them to my other computer but still I cannot control this problem.

This is really pissing me off... I'm trying to customize my color scheme and all that because I'm bored, but for some reason I can't change the color of the active window's title bar. I'm in Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced, but for the life of me I can't find the selection to change what I want.
I've messed around with Active Title Bar, Active Window Border, Application Background, Inactive Title Bar, Window, and others but none of them will change the color of my active window's title bar (for example, the Firefox title bar that says "Tech Support Guy Forums - Post New Thread - Mozilla Firefox" is all blue bcause I'm on the "Default (blue)" Color scheme right now). I don't see a way to deactivate the default color scheme, I can only change it to olive green or silver, or customize through the advanced button, which doesn't seem to work.
I have been asked to partition the hard disk in the following ways; the hard disk should be partitioned such a way that, the user profiles need to be a separate partion not in os installed partition say 'C: drive'; but in another partition say user(E: ); for this i figured out that need to automate this process someway in a form of text file, which will be used while installation; please somebody lead/instruct me regarding this; i am just now into system administration; and the OS of systems can be windows XP,2000,2003,98
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe menu bar (File-Edit-View-Help)on many Windows applications such as Notepad has changed from beige to a white box behind the menu item. When I click on a menu item, such as "File" for example, the menu item background changes to a larger rectangular white box around the word "File" instead of the normal blue and stays white. And, so forth with the rest of the menu items. There is no affect on the drop down menu. Selecting still highlights the item in blue. I have had this problem before. It begins after a program uninstall, I think. I have restored to a previous point as a fix in the past, but Restore can't restore past the point I need. It just seems to be a cosmetic problem, but it bugs me.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThree days ago I boot up my PC and found something strange. The appearance was "set" as Classic. Ok, so far it didn't bother me. When I tried to change it back, I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION! What disturbed me the most was that I had no internet connection. I checked the internet properties and my network settings were in blank. I checked the moden, and the "DSL" light was off. I don't want to imagine I have to reinstall Windows (XP); I've installed some software I (bought) downloaded and don't want to lose it. What can be wrong with my PC? I remember last time I turn it off was fine.

i'm slightly puzzled to why my XP pro themes are missing. The Themes service is running but the option to select XP themes is missing in the appearence tab via desktop properties. I have no third party software running on boot and as i said before im puzzled.

Anyone know why those options have disappeared. When I boot in safe mode I have most of those choices except screen saver and under appearance the only choice is classic. I went Start, Run and typed Services.msc Double-clicked the Themes service and it was already set at Automatic.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.
