i'm slightly puzzled to why my XP pro themes are missing. The Themes service is running but the option to select XP themes is missing in the appearence tab via desktop properties. I have no third party software running on boot and as i said before im puzzled.

Windows XP allows you to customise the appearance of Windows XP and has I think 4 different appearances you can choose from in the display properties under windows XP style with Windows XP plus installed. Is there any website that lets you download files to change the appearance of Windows XP without installing an extra program such as Window Blinds? I ask because I'm not artistic enough to create my own.

It doesn't appear to have the *.theme extension -- a search for that or the theme name turns up nothing. Additionally, in Display Properties > Themes, the Windows XP theme is gone; also, under Appearance > Windows and Buttons, the Windows XP Style is gone.

I have Windows XP Home Edition,I have Noticed that my tool bars are gray and in classic view.I go to startsettingscontrol paneldisplay and open it, the only option I have is Themes.I don't have desktop, screen saver, appearance, or settings. Anyone know why those options have disappeared. When I boot in safe mode I have most of those choices except screen saver and under appearance the only choice is classic. I went Start, Run and typed Services.msc Double-clicked the Themes service and it was already set at Automatic.

Im still trying to adjust to Xp and I love it now. I seen this image on a website that this guy took of his desktop, and the toolbar had a new look to it and it was gray and it just looked pretty sweet.

My wife like the desktop theme for the seascape, it has the ships wheel when working and for the mouse is a sea shell. Very nice. But, the background is a light tan colored and I hate it, I would like the plain white background. Is there a way to keep the sea theme and still get a white background?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter has a Dell XPS M1210 laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition. She got fooled by PSGuard and thought she was downloading antispyware software after a warning came on her screen. She ended up with the TrojanDownloder.xs and the SmitFraud problem. With a lot of assistance from past posts I was able to I think delete most of the problems. But I still can't change her theme or desktop background. I got rid of the "you have spyware and need to download spyware removal software" backgroun by now the screen is blue or a solid color and nothing else.

I right click on desktop, select properties, click on desktop tab i then go to try and browse wallpapers but am unable as the box and scroll are frozen. I also have a problem when i type into run. "regedit" as soon as the registry opens it closes again so i am unable to edit the registry or look through it? This picture is of what my desktop wallpapers looks like..

View 12 Replies View RelatedI just ran into a problem with my display properties. It occurred after a virus attacked my computer and reset the desktop to a false "blue screen of death". I was able to remove it Ad-Aware SE, but once i was working with the computer again, I found that the tabs under "display properties" were missing. They included "Themes", "Desktop" and "Appearances". I already tried reinstalling XP and carefully reinstalling the ATI drivers, but i still only see the "screen saver" and "settings" tabs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am seem to be missing some of the tabs in display properties in control panel. I am running windows XP home edition. I picked up a virus and I had some other issues for a little while. I noticed when it started to infect and I pulled my internet cord in case it was going to try to get at any of my personal data. I ran my Norton 360 right away and after about an hour of running the scans and deleting some stuff, my comp started to work a lot better, but now I seem to be missing the tabs where you would change wallpaper and screen saver settings. There might be more, but I'm a casual computer user and I don't remember what the others might be Well looking at my norton history there were a few viruses:
Trojan.Fakeavalert
Trojan.Zlob times 3
Bloodhound.sonar.1
and one named simply downloader
Right now the comp seems to be working OK and all scans come back clear, so it's just the tabs as far as I know.
Windows XP Home SP1. The only tab that shows on Display Properties is Themes. Desktop, Screen Saver, Appearance, and Settings are missing. Both with the onboard Intel vide chipset and with an ATI PCI card plugged in for troubleshooting. I remember something like this several years ago, but can not find anything in newsgroup or Microsoft searches.

As the result some of the Display Properties' Tab are missing (themes, desktop, appearance). I've copied new desk.cpl file but it doesn't fix the problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning Win XP Pro on a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ with 512MB of DDR 2700 RAM.When I right-click on the desktop to make any changes (like wallpaper, or screensaver) all I get is the Display Properties box with no tabs.The sheet displayed is Themes. The selected theme is Windows XP.If I change the theme and click Apply, the tabs all appear. But if I close & re-open the Display Properties, I'm back to Themes with no tabs.There is a similar post here already, but no one has posted any solutions.

Unfortunately, it changed my desktop back to the old classic windows style. I went to properties to get back the windows XP style. Ya know, the one that it comes with, soft round edges, microsoft blue. Unfortunately it won't change back, even though I keep choosing that style and hitting apply
When I right-click on the desktop and choose Properties, all I get is a drop-down box to select a theme - no tabs for screen saver, etc. I tried the "Restore All Display Tabs" solution at kellys-korner-xp.com, didn't work. The tabs do appear if I boot in safe mode, but changes aren't saved. I've run virus and spyware scans (including the scans at ewido.net), nothing picked up.

I've tried various regentries (downloaded off the net mostly) to try and work this back in, but none of them work.i've also looked at the current user registry settings, and all are in shape. i'm running XP Home and so there's no group settings from the run menu, :s i can't imagine what it cuold be :S
