I've installed and ran the XP-Administrator.exe file I did this thinking that the program allowed for toggling off the appearance of Administrator at the Welcome screen;but I have not found any instructions how to do the toggling.Can someone tell me where/how I may toggle the appearance of the Administrator user at the Welcome screen ?
View 7 RepliesThree days ago I boot up my PC and found something strange. The appearance was "set" as Classic. Ok, so far it didn't bother me. When I tried to change it back, I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION! What disturbed me the most was that I had no internet connection. I checked the internet properties and my network settings were in blank. I checked the moden, and the "DSL" light was off. I don't want to imagine I have to reinstall Windows (XP); I've installed some software I (bought) downloaded and don't want to lose it. What can be wrong with my PC? I remember last time I turn it off was fine.

Is there any website that lets you download files to change the appearance of Windows XP without installing an extra program such as Window Blinds? Anyone know why those options have disappeared. When I boot in safe mode I have most of those choices except screen saver and under appearance the only choice is classic. I went Start, Run and typed Services.msc Double-clicked the Themes service and it was already set at Automatic.

My only problem with it is that I can't set my screen resolution to the actual resolution of my screen (1280x800) since the only two options are 800x600 or 1024x768.The nVidia driver I got on the acer website wont install, saying:The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq EVO D51S SFF which I had plugged to my LCD TV as a media centre, just to watch movies and all. I had not connected this computer to the internet because I did not have a wireless card.I finally installed a wireless card, and then windows started doing all sorts of updates as expected (since the version on the SFF was SP2).Once windows was done with the updates, I started having problems with the screen resolution.
The SFF does not have a stand alone video card, so I had set the resolution at 1024 x 768, and this worked just fine before the updates.Now, the resolution keeps changing and this is a problem because the LCD TV gives me a message saying "Resolution Not Supported", so I can't use the computer unless I connect it to a regular computer monitor, select 1024x768, and then connect to the TV. I connect via VGA port, not DVI (don't have DVI).

I went into my computer and changed my screen appearance, I think I clicked Windows custom, when I restarted mycomputer all the icons appeared on my screen but when I click on the start button no programmes appear. So I cannot go into system restore to put my computer back to it's orginal setting.

The menu bar (File-Edit-View-Help)on many Windows applications such as Notepad has changed from beige to a white box behind the menu item. When I click on a menu item, such as "File" for example, the menu item background changes to a larger rectangular white box around the word "File" instead of the normal blue and stays white. And, so forth with the rest of the menu items. There is no affect on the drop down menu. Selecting still highlights the item in blue. I have had this problem before. It begins after a program uninstall, I think. I have restored to a previous point as a fix in the past, but Restore can't restore past the point I need. It just seems to be a cosmetic problem, but it bugs me.

i'm slightly puzzled to why my XP pro themes are missing. The Themes service is running but the option to select XP themes is missing in the appearence tab via desktop properties. I have no third party software running on boot and as i said before im puzzled.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just reformatted my computer a Dell, Inspiron 8100, Windows XP home edition. Screen resolution default is 1600X1200 Pixels. I like 1024X768. When I change the resolution to 1024X768 or any other setting available the screen just gets smaller. There is no change in "Screen Resolution.
I have installed all the updates and SP2. Auto-updates seems to be doing fine. I downloaded new NiNida drivers from Dell, etc. I've removed and reinstalled the video drivers several times.
I've got a friend's puter here to fix. She had gotten it from her dad, and when I tried to install Ad-Aware, it has her fathers name in 'Full Name'. The puter is still listed as registered to him, can I change this to her name?

When I rebooted the dell logo screen came on, as it always did, but the status bar is only a quarter of the way complete and that is all that is happening. I can't change anything because the status bar will not move and all I see is the dell logo screen. Nothing works, the keyboard will not work, I've tried to shut and restart but I keep getting the same thing, nothing.I am using windows xp home, I have an off lease dell computer that until 45 minutes ago worked great.
I have another computer that I am using right now.
I have a Windows XP Home installation and the main account is set as an administrator account.when we log into this account the command prompt window is displayed, but not with a c prompt and there is nothing we can do to exit it (i.e unable to type exit)
On looking at the startup options in msconfig, which is what's causing the command prompt window to open:
Startup Item: svchost
Command: C:windowssystem32driverssvchost.exe
Location: HKCUSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrenVersionRun
So using the account that is in the administrators group I tried to deselect it but when clicking Ok or Apply I get this message:
Error: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change the service. You man need to log on using and Administrator account the make the specified changes.
But I am using an Admin account...!?!?
So I tried rebooting into safe mode, then as the 'Official' Admin account to change it but when I login as the Administrator the svchost isn't in the start up options?
There are a couple of other accounts that are just standard accounts and they don't have the svchost on their startup.
I am using a P4 1.5 MHz system with 512 MB RAM, 64 MB Gforce MX card, new 80 GB hard disk with 4 partitions each 20 GB. My OS is, Windows XP with SP2 installed. I am getting error that my virtual memory is low(page file size). When I change the settings using the System icon in the control panel, still it reports the page file size as 0 MB only. I re-booted after changing, tried System Managed Size option. But still the page file size remains as 0 only.....
When I press the set button after the new settings it shows the changes for the drive and then asks to reboot. After re-booting it says "Either no page file or virtual memory too low" I tried re-booting in safe mode too. Still the change is not effected.
I am unable to change my desktop background. I had a virus problem and it appears the virus had been removed but when I restart a message appears that I am still infected I scanned with ATT McAfee and it says I am not infected.

A few days , some of window services has changed the task priority to high level .It causing my winamp sound to be skipping, my firefox is stuck for 1 sec then load back normal during surfing. Playing game is hard since the game movement is jerky. Im pretty sure before this, all task in my winxp had normal priority. Please help me. I try change the window xp appearance to classic. But it still same. I also noticed during the jerky, the processor jump up to 100% usage. Also the mouse movement become slow during this jerky. Unable to atatch screesnhot . The processes which using high priority are:csrss.exe,winlogon.exe, ashserv.exe[Avast Antivirus Service], taskmgr.exe.

Right now, Windows downloads the files and lets me decide when to
install them. I want Windows to download and install automatically.
I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.
