I'v recently had a lot of virus, spam, adware problems with my pc. After a vain attempt to clean it up I reinstalled the OS. Now whenever I try to access my old desctop/my documents folder I get an 'access is denied' error. It is an NTFS file system.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'll try to remember, to the best of my ability, the sequence of events...Suffice it to say that I downloaded and tried to install something I shouldn't have. I Immediately tried to get out of the errors from AVG (free version) and stop the install. All seems good, then IE keeps opening to bogus ad sites. I realize I've got something. AVG and AdAware both fail in removing this Win32Trojan.tdss (I think AVG gave me this description). AVG tells me to reboot to remove it properly. Reboot throws me into "can't verify this installation of Windows". Boot in safe mode work, then I get the same error on reboot...even in safe mode.
I don't have the original Windows CD (separated from husband and software at the same time; cannot find any software now), but it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP Home (product key on box), but I installed XP Pro instead. Don't know what product key was used or how to get it.....

i have too many programs running on my Taskmanager, i used End it all but couldn't get on with it, i want a program or someway of ending the background programs and then them staying closed, even after reboot,P.S- i have done al of the other options, like "Go into MSCONFIG" i have closed the ones i do not need there, my startup tab is empty.
It's weird but my background kept asking me to to restore my desktop when i tried to replace the background with a new one,the main color of the background stayed around the lettering of all the icons. Thats when i checked for viruses and found i had one. My antivirus program is cheap so it detects it proceeds to say it removes it but doesnt.

Anyways today I forgot to turn zonealarm and avg back on, and I got a virus while surfing the net. I cleaned most of it up, but when I right click on the desktop, and go to desktop, the backgrounds box is locked or something, and I can't chang the background.

An office laptop running XP Home was riddled with malware - spyfighter, pcadprotector, CSW.HomeSearch etc. I've managed to remove them all after a full day of hassle but I'm still left with a frustrating issue in that I cannot adjust the desktop background. The properties box is greyed out for backgrounds. We have a simple peer to peer network (workgroup in fact) and no internal security or policies. What can I do before I throw the thing out of the window?

I can use Outlook to send and receive messages OK and the error only appears as Outlook is closing down. My Mailwasher Pro update wont run at all and produces the error report when I try to run it. In the last couple of weeks I have tried to download a number of programs, some install and run OK and some produce the above error report when I try to run them.

They even stay that way when the removal programs are run in safe mode.What kind of processes are these, and why can't they be deleted? Do some of them run as services, and if so how can they be tracked down from the start up programs and services and eliminated? I know of utilities such as those available from sysinternals.com which can list running processes etc. Is there a way of finding out those which are legal and those which are run by these trojans, the track down the processes in the start up groups which activate them and delete them altogether?

The problem is that only some programs are working on the user accounts but all the programs work under the administer account. So my question is how can I get to work under the user accounts. When they were installed the box was check to let everyone that uses the computer to access the program. The other problem I am having is also with xp home. Works on 98se to XP.Create a new folder of any name in my Documents, now put any shortcut to a program you would like. Drag the folder drom the DOCument folder onto your task bar where your clock is. Also i've tried to download Hijackthis and my computer won't let it download. Soon after the download window dissapears as well. My internet is working fine, it's just the programs that won't seem to open up. Am i infected? If there isn't any solution should i just re-format my computer?
