Lost Connection - Internet Explorer & Dell
Aug 25, 2005I lost my connection to IE 2 nites ago. I could search anywhere on the web thru Google, just not thru IE dellnet. I also have a shortcut to dell solutions that connects to the web- it also wouldn't work. I downloaded Mozilla, and RIGHT after that IE was up and running again. However, my direct link to Dell is still missing The error message is the typical IE message: the page cannot be displayed cannot find server or DNS error. Does anyone have any ideas? Is Dell trying to tell me something?

Aug 19, 2006I lost the Internet Explorer and Outlook express entries from START, ALL PROGRAMS. Don't know why. System Restore from yesterday could not restore anything.
I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.

Then I realize that something was cutting my internet in half I would always do a speed test with cable speakeasy.net and it would always show my down over 17000kbps Up 2049kbps I have comcast Cable. but now my speed EVER go over 4000kbps my upload is always good 2000kbps but my down is horrible, whenever I search a site I always get a 6 second pause then it gos straight to it and my PC also took a little drop in speed as well and i've use every problem that I know is fine to use " spybot, adware personal, Kaspersky, microtrend online, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CounterSpy, norton online, ccleaner, windows defender, I forgot the rest but nothing worked. Sep 28, 2006My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Lost My Explorer Folder
May 22, 2007I wanted to copy the windows explorer folder from the Accessories to the Start Menu and it seems I cut it and its gone. I am using Windows XP Home edition and I'm not yet ready to do a re-install for this issue. Experts out there as I presume an easier solution.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. May 4, 2005I finally have the hardware and software to try a few things differently, and want to experiment with alternate forms of XP installs.I have an 80 Gb hard drive freshly fdisked and formatted, and have temporarily installed it as a slave drive. I then copied an XP Home (w/SP2 slipstreamed) directly to this drive. I want to try and directly install that version of XP to that hard drive, but can't determine what minimum files I also need to have extracted already to make it minimally bootable NTLDR, etc. I'm just curious to see if this can be done, for those problem installs where things get sticky. This installation will not be permanent, and is actually at this point, and uninstalled and unactivated CD.

Progress Bar Worked But It Got Stuck On That Screen
Apr 20, 2007it would not do anything whilst on the windows loading screen (progress bar etc worked but it got stuck on that screen and wouldn't advance), the HDD light would blink for a while and then it would just sit there. Usually i would restart until quite a while later I discovered that if i left it for long enough (about 5-10 minutes) it would eventually load. I have also performed several reformats in this time and the problem would disappear for a while then show its ugly face again. It wouldn't do this every time but a large majority of the time it would.
Instead, it would go through the loading screen, finish that, and the screen would go blank (no signal detected etc) and then it wouldn't do anything at all, I have left it sitting there for about an hour once to see if eventually would work but it didn't. So to fix this I have to restart the computer and it would come up with the screen asking me if i want to use safe mode and usually i would either choose the Last known good configuration or start up windows normally, occasionally i would go in safe mode and restart from there and it would usually work but not always.
Progress Bar Across Bottom Of Black Screen
Aug 24, 2007I know this is a worn topic, but I searched for similar questions and didn't find the same problem that I am having.Upon reboot, immediatley after the BIOS load screen, I get a white progress bar across the bottom of a black screen. It will move a notch then hesitate for a minute then slowly progress. Once it gets up to about two or three notches it will zip to the end and XP starts to load. If I reboot in Safe Mode the same hesitiation occurs as it loads the list of drivers.Once I start to see the desktop, it will take another 7 minutes or so before I can gain control of the computer and the hard drive runs continuously during that time.

I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.

The router is a Trendnet TW 100. My wife downloads and lets others in her movie room download from her files. Once in a 24 hour period her computer loses the internet connection and disrupt either her download or upload. Apr 27, 2010I have had fiber optics for about 6 months now. I had cable access before that. I have three computers set up in my home in three different locations. All three are hardwired to a linksys router. A few nights ago one of my roommates told me she lost her internet connection. I was on mine at the time playing STO and I was having no problems. I checked with my other roommate and her internet connection was fine also. So I went to the room where the connection was out and asked her if she changed anything, she said no. I restarted the computer, still the connection was out. I checked the cable where it was exposed from the wall it looked fine. Now I noticed that the desk was sitting on the cable, but it still looked fine. So I went and got my spare computer that I keep as a back-up and brought it to the room that was out. I connected it and turned it on and the spares internet connection was down also (I just had the internet running on the spare earlier that day).
So I figured it had to be the cable or router (linksys). So I took another spare cable I had and connected it to my spare computer and still got nothing. So I figured it was the router. So I took the cable from the computer I was playing STO on and connected it to the port on the router that was connected to the computer that lost the connection and my computer's internet came up just fine. I started changing cables on the router (using different ports and cables) between the two working computers and the one's not working. The one's that were working (one Win7, one WinXP) in the first place continued to work and the one's that weren't working (both running WinXP) continued not to work no matter what cables and ports I switched them in. It was late and I had to head to work early in the morning so I gave up for the evening...........
