View 3 RepliesI have a printer/copier/fax/scanner which was working perfectly. It is a Lexmark X1270. My Computer is a HP Multimedia with a windows XP operating system. Suddenly one day it stopped working. the following error message appeared error message: the procedure entry point? GetProductPrefix@LXkProduct@@SA?AVCString@@XZ could not be located in dynamic link library lxczutil.dll. when trying to use the copy function. For the printer function it would sometimes print ONE item. Then to print anything else I have to restart the computer and again it would print only one copy. Unfortunately the original cd with the drivers has been lost so I emailed the lexmark. They asked me to download the driver for X2500. I tried but it did not work as the model number seems different. I sent them 3 reminders for further help which they did not reply! And now again suddenly a few days ago the printer does not even load. Message says 'Spooler service is not running'. And even the other printers are unusable because the fax printer box is empty and I cannot reload a printer ..the same 'Spooler....appears.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI finally have the hardware and software to try a few things differently, and want to experiment with alternate forms of XP installs.I have an 80 Gb hard drive freshly fdisked and formatted, and have temporarily installed it as a slave drive. I then copied an XP Home (w/SP2 slipstreamed) directly to this drive. I want to try and directly install that version of XP to that hard drive, but can't determine what minimum files I also need to have extracted already to make it minimally bootable NTLDR, etc. I'm just curious to see if this can be done, for those problem installs where things get sticky. This installation will not be permanent, and is actually at this point, and uninstalled and unactivated CD.

ANYTHING I try to install it goes to this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried 3 times to do an XP Repair Install recently - all resulting in shutting down the system with the power switch (have completed it successfully in the past), but after the reboot, the XP Repair Install only gets as far as the Progress bar Window that appears briefly before the Login Window and hangs with the progress bar continuing across the screen, but never continuing the Reinstall any further. With my WinXP Pro SP2 hard drive mounted on my Linux FC3 system with an NTFS driver installed, I copied (recursively) all of the important folders onto Linux where I can create an ISO9660 filesystem image (.iso) file (multiple CDs) that can be used to recreate the information on a new Parallel Install of WinXP Pro SP2.
While attempting to initiate a Parallel Install (in the same partition) which would necessitate a new non-existing folder,e.g. C:WinXP, instead of C:Windows for installation, it occured to me that I was not certain whether: C:Documents and Settings and C:Program Files would survive (if doing the Parallel Install in the same partition).
I am guessing that they would NOT survive - just looking for confirmation on this fact, so can anyone confirm that?
I am also guessing that for those folders to survive a Parallel Install that I would have to create a new partition in which to load the Parallel Install (Have lots of GBs on the WinXP Pro SP2 disk, however, most of the disk is partitioned for C:)- can anyone confirm that also?........
I just purchased a 74G western digital raptor drive and want to use it as my system drive, however, I have the PERFECT installation of windows (XP Pro) on my current system drive (a mostly full 320G sata drive).Make the raptor be bootable/system drive, basically move the install of windows (documents and setting folder, windows folder, program files folder, MBR/all system files and folders) to the new raptor and then re-assign the raptor to be drive C (so all references would be correct). The windows install I currently have is ancient but perfect, and I dont have the discs for many of the programs on the system (TONS OF THEM). So I really want to avoid re-installing windows (the obvious way to do this). I also cant use Norton ghost because the old drive has 280G of stuff and the raptor is only 74G.Is this possible? If so are there and tools/hints that could help me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a new pc with Win7 and XP Pro in a dual boot setup. What I would love to do is migrate my existing harddrive from my current computer to the new one. I am aware of the changes of OEM XP software, however, if I was to do it could I use a new OEM install key to reauthorize the old (existing) installation? The one I want to move is an OEM as well, and I know that the existing key won't work. Or, do I need a "retail" version XP key? Or, is the best way to proceed to install a new OEM XP installation on the new computer and migrate all my applications?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHey guys, first off I'd like to say I'm not a very smart computer person (I'm not a dumb one but don't understand a lot of the more complex stuff) and I'm mainly trying to help my brother figure something out.
I used Windows Pro for awhile but started having a problem with my sound settings (mic stopped working and since I'm a Counter-Strike player I kind of needed it back for CAL :P) so we decided after trying a new sound card, etc, etc that it was the settings (well, my brother decided that after checking on it, appearently something was reveresed for some reason?), anyways we went to install Windows Home and all went well on the installing it from the CD part, but once it got into the configuring part or whatever it kept freezing at the "Install Network" part. So after trying that about 20 times we started using the Pro version to see if it would work.... same thing. So now I'm back trying to get the Home version to work (basically just going through the motions that my bro told me to do) and it keeps freezing there
I have an external hard drive that was working fine on my USB port but at some point my Dell Laptop with Windows XP stopped reognizing it. I tried the external hard drive in another XP desktop and it works fine. I have a USB mouse that worked fine so the port was OK. I tried reinstalling the external hard drive several times and tried to use another external hard drive that I verified worked on another computer but that also would not install. I broused your forum and tried the registry patch.

Now I can't install the USB controllers either.
My CPU has been 100% for over a month. I first thought it was a virus so a scanned w/ every program out there and nothing would detect anything, HJT log was reviewed and nothing found so I went down the Registry Path and tried to repair with Registry Repair Tools to no avail. So I backed up all my files and did a complete OS re-install in CPU is still at 100%. And when this problem first started by USB ports stopped working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to install Win Xp but did not format the HD in NTFS....the XP went through the 6 floppys and the CD UP to the point of asking for the service pack 1 disk seeking the asms file. the partital install won't let me do anything, just keeps cycling through, rebooting, and asking for the file. I can't get the cd-rom to read a GpartedLive.iso. the disk just spins in there, and any start up floppy is ignored.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my laptop The Progressbar When windows loads onnly does up one then the blue error screen blinks and the laptop restarts
it would not do anything whilst on the windows loading screen (progress bar etc worked but it got stuck on that screen and wouldn't advance), the HDD light would blink for a while and then it would just sit there. Usually i would restart until quite a while later I discovered that if i left it for long enough (about 5-10 minutes) it would eventually load. I have also performed several reformats in this time and the problem would disappear for a while then show its ugly face again. It wouldn't do this every time but a large majority of the time it would.
Instead, it would go through the loading screen, finish that, and the screen would go blank (no signal detected etc) and then it wouldn't do anything at all, I have left it sitting there for about an hour once to see if eventually would work but it didn't. So to fix this I have to restart the computer and it would come up with the screen asking me if i want to use safe mode and usually i would either choose the Last known good configuration or start up windows normally, occasionally i would go in safe mode and restart from there and it would usually work but not always.
I know this is a worn topic, but I searched for similar questions and didn't find the same problem that I am having.Upon reboot, immediatley after the BIOS load screen, I get a white progress bar across the bottom of a black screen. It will move a notch then hesitate for a minute then slowly progress. Once it gets up to about two or three notches it will zip to the end and XP starts to load. If I reboot in Safe Mode the same hesitiation occurs as it loads the list of drivers.Once I start to see the desktop, it will take another 7 minutes or so before I can gain control of the computer and the hard drive runs continuously during that time.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOn boot sequence, PC hangs on Windows boot screen - with the good old progress bar churning along for eternity. It just stays there. It is possible to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. but never boots up normally. 'Last Known Good..." does not help at all.
I have tried 'repairing' XP using the recovery console (deleting the boot.ini file, then BOOTCFG /REBUILD and then FIXBOOT) to no avail. Do not know where in the boot process it is getting hung up and not totally sure how to determine that.Using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Plenty of RAM and disk space.
Had this problem once in the past and it seemed to self correct after about 50 reboots.
Does this sound like a re-install of XP is required or are there any other options that might work?
I was just reading an old CNet subscriber letter about using wireless internet in hotels. Lots of people were talking about different ways to prevent your data being stolen, including an "evil twin". Well, a few people mentioned using firewalls. I used to use one a while ago (ZoneAlarm) and liked the way it worked, however, here's my question, how exactly does it protect the data that you SEND.I can understand that it would be protecting your computer from people who try to get onto your own computer, but I thought of it as somewhat like a brick wall, keeping those that you wanted out of your computer on the other side of the brick wall.Do firewalls protect the data that you send also? I was thinking of it being like (another goofy analogy, haha) lining a garden hose with steel tubing, so that way no one can come over and puncture the hose and steal your water from the hole. Can firewalls protect outgoing data, and not just incoming data and protect against incoming threats and attacks on your computer?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Plug and Play Software Enumerator failures. (XP SP2)I get an error 31 which says that it can't load the driver properly. However, the driver files (swenum.sys streamci.dll) are good as I got them from a functioning XP SP2 system. Also, when I enable bootlogging it says that it successfully loads swenum.sys.
However, in Device Manager, I get the exclamation point and error 31.
I don't have a good feeling about this. So yesterday, I went to bed fine, my computer was great. I leave it running usually. I wake up. I can use everything normally, that was opened. I didn't try to run a new .exe file. So I was using Firefox fine, and msn too. Then, I wanted to watch a video with media player classic, and I get an entry point not found error. Notibly I was concerned, but I figured it was just a corrupted file within the realm of the media player, not my computer. So, I decided to try and open up taskmanager. As soon as I do, this is the error I get ".The procedure entry point NdrtypgUnmarshall could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll." Also, something to note, is that if I click okay on the error, it just pops back up, so I can't get rid of it.
My cursor has also returned to the original version, (I'm using cursorXP). I went to system32 to check if I still had the .dll file, or if it had somehow been edited, and nope, it's still there, and it seems untouched. What on earth is going on? How can such a huge error pop up overnight without me doing anything? Also one more thing, some programs that are already open, such as AVG, will not give me an error when I try to run something within them, merely nothing will happen. I can't use my control panel, either.
Right a few week ago my computer crashed and i reinstalled window xp with sp2 with a cd and now the sp2 stop me installing my netgear wirless (WG111v2) adapter diver properly .so i want to uninstall it.i tried going to run (c:windows$NtServicePack Uninstall$spuninstspuninst.exe) it didn't work and because it is a flesh install i don't have a restore point to goback so what can i do?
