I am running Windows XP, Home Edition, to which is connected a 250MB external ZIP drive. My previous system used Windows 98, and, in a moment of madness, I compressed one of the ZIP drive disks. I realize that I need to remount the disk, using the Windows "Drivespace three" program. The only problem is that I don't have the program, and, to my knowledge, it does not exist in or for Windows XP. Is there any way I can obtain a copy of the Drivespace Three program, and, if so, will it run under Windows XP? If not, what version of Windows 95 or 98 has the program? I have access to an older system, belonging to a friend, and might possibly be able to use it to solve the problem.
I have a 120 GB Western Digital IDE Internal Hard Drive that was formatted and used on an old Windows 98 system. I am getting a new computer with Windows XP and I was wondering if I can install this old hard drive as a second drive on the new computer. Will it mount correctly on XP and will I be able to access the data that's on it?
running XP Pro SP2. Have a 2.5" HDD from a Toshiba Laptop (XP Home SP1 / FAT32) that I have in a USB case. The case plugs into the USB port of Desktop computer and hey presto.should be able to access the drive. However Cannot see the drive in Windows Explorer. Have gone into disk manager and the drive is showing but there is no drive letter assigned and no way of doing so. Option is greyed out on right-click over drive. I have tried changing the drive letter of the cd/dvd drive. I have no mapped drives that could complicate matters. Have tried re-scanning drives no joy. Have even tried uninstalling Enhanced USB2 Host. no joy.
I was surfing the internet and all of a sudden my screen just went blue, now it won't boot and just shows a blue screen that says unbootable mount volume.
Boot loop started with XP during XP boot screen. I hit F8 during XP loading screen to stop restart after crash, and a blue screen with "unable to mount" [hard drive] error popped up.
When I try to install any program on pc I get the error that application failed to start because oledlg.dll was not found. Try to reinstall. So I go to my program list and look for this to uninstall, and it does not exist. (not that I can find anyway) So when I go on the premise that it isn't on the system, and I try to download oledlg.dll, it brings me to this .dll file already downloaded. When I click on that file, I only get a FAQS page from microsoft telling me about file names.
I recently reinstalled my Windows MCE 2005 after trying out Vista.I downloaded the XBOX 360 Extender and it says that the PC cannot connect to 360, because the ports are closed. OK no problem. I go and try to open WIndows Firewall to open ports. It says "Windows Firewall Settings cannot be displayed, because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection (ICS) Service?" I click "yes". "Windows cannot start Firewall/Internet Connection (ICS) Service."I try to start Firewall...nothing happens. Then I found another topic saying that I should go to run "services.msc". I do it. There, I find Windows Firewall and click "start". I get an error saying:"Error 1075. The dependecy service does not exist or has been marked for deletion". I have no clue on what to do now! Without fixing that stupid firewall I cannot connect my 360.
I am trying to set up remote desktop but when I browse for computers, I click on the network name then get the message ' the MSHOME domain/workgroup does not contain any terminal servers.I have set up the XP pro machine to enable remote desktop.

I just installed XP Pro SP2 onto this toshiba laptop (fairly good;1.4ghz intel celeron M,512 ddr ram, wireless nic,ati graphics and such) and it seems that standby and hibernate wont work AT ALL. Standby is grayed out in the turn off computer menu and the hibernate tab does not exist in the power options utility in control panel. I've googled around a bit and found no specific option in the BIOS to enable or disable it and as far as i know this laptop SHOULD support it...i mean come on what kind of laptop doesn't standby or hibernate?
I'm trying to share my internet connection with another connection. It's a wifi dongle for a wireless handheld. In order to get connectivity on this dongle, I need to share my connection. But when I attempt to do this, I recieve an error: "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled This specified service does not exist as an installed service."
I'm using WinXP SP2 and I've searched on the Windows.com site for a while and downloaded some help files. But, it gives no indication on how to get ICS if you are getting this error. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on what I can try or how to get ICS? I've also reinstalled SP2, but I'm still not able to share my connection and recieve the same error. In Services I have Windows Management Instrumentation and Remote Access Manager but I don't have Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing listed.
I have an Acer TravelMate 2303LC laptop. Yesterday I realised I was out of space on the C: drive (6MB I think) and was planning to delete/move files to free up space tonight. However after switching it on today it comes up with the lsass.exe system error - 'insufficient system resources exist to complete the API'. It only offers the choice of OK and when you click this it restarts and comes up with the same error again, and you can repeat this forever
When i boot up my computer it asks me to select the operating system i would like to boot. I have to select the top one as i usually do. The thing is there are three operating systems on the list, i thought i uninstalled them, when i try to load them up, it says they don't exist, but they just stay there, wasting my time every bootup. I'd quite like to completely get them to go away, not make it just choose to boot up from the top one automatically.
I have a Compaq V3402au notebook. 2GB of RAM. AMD Turion 64 x 2 Processors. It initially came with Vista Home Basic. Due to high demands of Vista I installed XP and removed vista. Somehow the Windows folder of Vista has not gone. And all the efforts of deleting that folder is in vain.I tried Unlocker, DOS mode but none of them work.
Is there a way to remove programs from the add/remove programs list if you no longer have the uninstall file and the software is no longer on your disk?
When I startup Windows XP I get the following message:
"Windows cannot create a temporary profile directory. This may be caused by insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator"
DETAIL: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested sequence
I had Win XP and my laptop does not start it only gives me this message and then reebot and the window with these message only has the option ok so its a cycle I look to other post about these and says that I shoul liberate some of my disk memory but I can't enter in safe mode I already tried and this is a real problem cause I have 2 disk one of them removable but is only 8 GB and its completely clean it has nothing on it and the other one is the disk of my computer I can not remove it and is 8 GB too. I didn't install anything but the programs that I really need and my messenge
I downloaded "RegSeeker" and ran it to see what was up with it. Using the'Clean the registry" tab,I was very surprised to find over 700 questionable entries, most of which were "File or Path does not exist" and " Invalid ActiveX/Com entry (CLSID)".
I have an desktop PC installed with Windows XP. Yesterday I realised that the free space in my C: drive was rapidly decreasing and before I could take any action, the free space was in KB's and the computer shut down. After switching it on, it comes up with the lsass.exe system error - 'Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API'. It only offers the choice of OK and when you click this it restarts and comes up with the same error again, and you can repeat this forever I tried to start in Safe mode also, but the computer restarts.
Volume Licensed WinXP Pro is obviously the official name as has been pointed out ad nauseum. "Corporate Edition" doesn't exist (allegedly, actually I personally don't care if it exists or not), is seemingly subject to more demands for proof of existence than God himself and of couse the term "Corporate" means its a pirated version of the said Volume Licensed WinXP Pro which has also been screamed about like its in the bloody constitution or something. I call Volume Licensed WinXP Pro "Corporate" because its easier to say and write for that matter than "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro". Thats it it, just works better nothing more.
In all the time XP has been on release and I have been working with it in the industry I have never yet heard anybody at all refer to "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro" or anything remotely similar; they all from IT managers to shop floor builders call it "Corporate" or similar....
My OS is Xp sp3,the "Compress Volume to save disk space" check box didn't exist on my volume F: Properties, and all of "Compress contents to save disk space" check box of file or folder wasn't enable in my volume F:,but other volume is fine.
I have a Lite-On SHW-160P6S DVD drive. Just recently reinstalled windows and reformatted and was in the process of gradually getting everything set up and installed, when my drive disappeared. I don't know exactly when, but it was gone. I checked the device manager and it said the driver was corrupted, no updated driver available, so I uninstalled and restarted. Upon restart, Windows recognizes the drive and begins to install it
I was running The Cleaner for the first time and it found several files to delete that I can't seem to find on my system. It shows them to be temp files but I like to be sure so I went searching for them. They're not visible. I've enabled the see all files so it should be there. But it's not. I did however find these files and am wondering why they would be found under IE5 which I haven't used now since the rebuild. And I don't think that was even under this hard drive! Is it safe to let it delete, or is that stuff I shouldn't delete? C: Documents & Settings: User: Local Settings: Temporary Internet Files: Content.IE5: 3I1TVRX8, 4NM0HAS5, 7D8UQMOE, index.dat
Also I'm concerned by this message that keeps coming up saying Browser Help Objects have been detected - The following BHO has been added to your system: {BDF3E430~B101~42AD~A544~FADC6B084872} and I can either remove it or keep it. I ran a program called BHODemon to check it out and it found several BHO's but they were all legit. Could this all just be from a conflict from having SpywareGuard and Spybot both on my machine? Spybot seem to be going crazy asking if I want to change things. I can't stop them from popping back up when I close one another comes up. The error messages are always different too which is really confusing.
I was just reading an old CNet subscriber letter about using wireless internet in hotels. Lots of people were talking about different ways to prevent your data being stolen, including an "evil twin". Well, a few people mentioned using firewalls. I used to use one a while ago (ZoneAlarm) and liked the way it worked, however, here's my question, how exactly does it protect the data that you SEND.I can understand that it would be protecting your computer from people who try to get onto your own computer, but I thought of it as somewhat like a brick wall, keeping those that you wanted out of your computer on the other side of the brick wall.Do firewalls protect the data that you send also? I was thinking of it being like (another goofy analogy, haha) lining a garden hose with steel tubing, so that way no one can come over and puncture the hose and steal your water from the hole. Can firewalls protect outgoing data, and not just incoming data and protect against incoming threats and attacks on your computer?
Every time I set a restore point then go back to use it it is gone not highlited nor do I have any restore points what so ever none notta.zippo.,.,What to do~??
I have a Plug and Play Software Enumerator failures. (XP SP2)I get an error 31 which says that it can't load the driver properly. However, the driver files (swenum.sys streamci.dll) are good as I got them from a functioning XP SP2 system. Also, when I enable bootlogging it says that it successfully loads swenum.sys. However, in Device Manager, I get the exclamation point and error 31.
I don't have a good feeling about this. So yesterday, I went to bed fine, my computer was great. I leave it running usually. I wake up. I can use everything normally, that was opened. I didn't try to run a new .exe file. So I was using Firefox fine, and msn too. Then, I wanted to watch a video with media player classic, and I get an entry point not found error. Notibly I was concerned, but I figured it was just a corrupted file within the realm of the media player, not my computer. So, I decided to try and open up taskmanager. As soon as I do, this is the error I get ".The procedure entry point NdrtypgUnmarshall could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll." Also, something to note, is that if I click okay on the error, it just pops back up, so I can't get rid of it.
My cursor has also returned to the original version, (I'm using cursorXP). I went to system32 to check if I still had the .dll file, or if it had somehow been edited, and nope, it's still there, and it seems untouched. What on earth is going on? How can such a huge error pop up overnight without me doing anything? Also one more thing, some programs that are already open, such as AVG, will not give me an error when I try to run something within them, merely nothing will happen. I can't use my control panel, either.
