Folders Of Operating System Exist Even Remove
Jul 10, 2009
I have a Compaq V3402au notebook. 2GB of RAM. AMD Turion 64 x 2 Processors. It initially came with Vista Home Basic. Due to high demands of Vista I installed XP and removed vista. Somehow the Windows folder of Vista has not gone. And all the efforts of deleting that folder is in vain.I tried Unlocker, DOS mode but none of them work.

When i boot up my computer it asks me to select the operating system i would like to boot. I have to select the top one as i usually do. The thing is there are three operating systems on the list, i thought i uninstalled them, when i try to load them up, it says they don't exist, but they just stay there, wasting my time every bootup. I'd quite like to completely get them to go away, not make it just choose to boot up from the top one automatically.

I would like to remove one of the windows operating system, but don't know how.
We had to reinstall windows xp and came up with both systems still on the computer.
When windows is loading, you have to select which of the two windows that you want to loading.

I have a Dell insiron 530 with recently acquired virus or trojan that has prohibited my computer from running mcafee. I am running Windows XP. I was considering upgrding to windows 7 anyway. Will the install of a new operating system clean the hard disk of this and any other virus? I have already backed up my files onto an external hard drive and ran the Mcafee on the external drive and it is clean.

I had to reformat and reinstall Win XP and then restore from backups, some didn't work as advertised.I can't reinstall Acronis True Image because it didn't fully uninstall. There is an entry "[13:51:18 - Error]: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareAcronis"! Windows core returned the following error: "Invalid key"" which my registry cleaner can't remove. Using regedit I tried but I got the same msg.

I have an Acer TravelMate 2303LC laptop. Yesterday I realised I was out of space on the C: drive (6MB I think) and was planning to delete/move files to free up space tonight. However after switching it on today it comes up with the lsass.exe system error - 'insufficient system resources exist to complete the API'. It only offers the choice of OK and when you click this it restarts and comes up with the same error again, and you can repeat this forever

I have a Lite-On SHW-160P6S DVD drive. Just recently reinstalled windows and reformatted and was in the process of gradually getting everything set up and installed, when my drive disappeared. I don't know exactly when, but it was gone. I checked the device manager and it said the driver was corrupted, no updated driver available, so I uninstalled and restarted. Upon restart, Windows recognizes the drive and begins to install it

Using XP SP2 and I can not move, rename or delete any folders. For example - I create a New Folder and try to rename it - it stays as New Folder. I try to move ANY folder and it does not move - stays where it is. Even when copying contents of a USB stick - folders will not move, be renamed or deleted. I CAN however, move files and rename and delete files - just not ANY folder!I can delete the folders from the command prompt though.

The System Volume Information Folders contain your System Restore points. You can delete the oldest ones manually if you like. These folders are hidden system folders on each drive. In order to gain access, follow the directions below depending on your version of XP and File System:Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition Using the FAT32 File System Click Start , and then click My Computer On the Tools menu, click Folder Options On the View tab, click Show hidden files and foldersClear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the change Click OKĀ

I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.

The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.

I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
