I would like to remove one of the windows operating system, but don't know how.
We had to reinstall windows xp and came up with both systems still on the computer.
When windows is loading, you have to select which of the two windows that you want to loading.
I have a Compaq V3402au notebook. 2GB of RAM. AMD Turion 64 x 2 Processors.It initially came with Vista Home Basic. Due to high demands of Vista I installed XP and removed vista. Somehow the Windows folder of Vista has not gone. And all the efforts of deleting that folder is in vain.I tried Unlocker, DOS mode but none of them work.

I was considering upgrding to windows 7 anyway. Will the install of a new operating system clean the hard disk of this and any other virus? I have already backed up my files onto an external hard drive and ran the Mcafee on the external drive and it is clean.

There is an entry "[13:51:18 - Error]: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareAcronis"! Windows core returned the following error: "Invalid key"" which my registry cleaner can't remove. View 6 Replies View RelatedI was trying to remove windows messenger by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components I misread the directions for this windows XP setup box and made it so that only windows messenger had a checkmark because I thought this meant that only windows messenger would be modified removed unfortunately, this just meant windows messenger stayed the same and all the other components i had installed were removed. I know they are still on my computer since for accessories/games I can go to start -> run and type in something like "winmine" and minesweeper will open up, however if I go to the start menu and look in games it is empty

I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either.
When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.

I've tryed reinstalling in safe mode, rebooting about 9 times and I cannot install it
I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that,but the visual styles can't load I assume,becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.

Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
Should I ever use one of the utility programs to wipe my hard drive completely, how do I reinstall Windows XP since the CD driver has been erased? How can you reinstall an operating system that is on CD when you have no driver for the CD player? The reason I am asking these questions is that I might want to give my computer to friend and I want my stuff off of the hard drive and my friend to be able to use the computer.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi bought a mobo and cpu combo at frys. built my pc up. tried to install windows. but i got an error message saying "if this is your first time getting this error,, please restart the installlation.if the porblem persists, please uninstall any new drivers or remove any new hardware." so i tried a bunch of stuff. and finally i got a new mobo and cpu. windows installed fine; then i tried installing world of warcraft. it froze in the same exact place everytime on the 3rd disk. after the 3rd time of restarting my pc because of this lock up, my task bar was gone. i tried restarting my pc many times, but no task bar. i tried installing windows again and i got the original error message i got on the last time i tried to reinstall windows. (by the way, before my task bar was gone and everything, i cliked on my computer and looked at my ram. it said 256mb of ram. i have 512mb stick!).....
