Alright, I need to know if I can remove windows XP Professional. It was the first operating system installed. I want to wipe the entire harddrive of EVERYTHING on it and have windows like when it was first installed. I have the windows XP HOME CD key, so I'm guessing I might have to go from Pro to Home, which is fine with me. Is there a way to do this? I'm sorry, not very good with PCs.

Can I network the two computers with one using XP Home and the other using XP Professional? I was thrilled with it, so much harddrive and 512 MB Ram. After I had put a lot of my data on the computer I thought I might try another identity for other uses. So I went in to create a new identity. When I had finished with the new Identity the original Administration Identity that I had been working with for months no longer existed. After much consternation I did a system restore and got my original identity back. But what I want to know is how can I create a new identity without losing everything in the original Identity and I realize I should have gone on through Administrator to create the first identity. View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to remove windows messenger by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components I misread the directions for this windows XP setup box and made it so that only windows messenger had a checkmark because I thought this meant that only windows messenger would be modified removed unfortunately, this just meant windows messenger stayed the same and all the other components i had installed were removed. I know they are still on my computer since for accessories/games I can go to start -> run and type in something like "winmine" and minesweeper will open up, however if I go to the start menu and look in games it is empty

For example the whole win98 to w2k doesnt fly good because of the fat32 to ntfs deal. so what about upgrading w2k pro with ntfs to xp pro with ntfs? is this a good thing to do now a days or is it still better to just perform a clean install over my existing os. I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either.
When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.

Windows XP Home, which is what I use and Windows XP Professional Setup.I dont know how the Professional Setup got on there but it is always highlighted as the selection, so if I reboot and go away from the computer it goes into the Setup which doesnt work, and then I have to reboot again. I;ve never had this until recently, and need to know how to get rid of the Professional Setup one so I can just use regular XP. View 14 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP Professional.When I reboot my computer, Windows tries to load.It gets to the point of the sound of Windows booting and the default landscape view; but won't go any further.None of the program icons show and the tray at the bottom of the screen will not come up.If I try to start the program in Safe Mode, the same thing happens.It "hangs up" at the same point.Yesterday, I ran Spybot on my computer.I had several spyware problems and deleted them.Did not reboot until today when I then had the problem described above.Can you tell me anything I can do from the DOS prompt to resolve this problem as I cannot get Windows to load properly?
