what is the difference between Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional? Building a new comp and probably sticking with XP for OS but cant find anywhere that tells me how pro and home differ (XP)
I am about to purchase a new laptop for college and work purposes and I am debating whether to go for a great deal on a laptop with Windows XP Professional already installed and full MS Office Professional, or to get a home premium version of windows 7. I need to have excel and power point and word at least, if not outlook and publisher too. I simply can't figure out which would be my best option, any suggestions?
when opening windows xp the screen gets to the windows xp with the little green light going back and forth in the rectangle box. this green light goes back and forth 3 or 4 times then freezes and you cant go further then that.
I have a computer that is running windows xp home edition. I cannot create a shortcut to the windows explorer application on my desktop, as the windows explorer program does not appear in the programs window. I know that if I click on the start menu and navagate to the programs icon, a second window wil appear showing all of the programs that are installed on my computer. However in the programs menu, I cannot see my explorer application anywhere.
I have a compaq presario c306 laptop. It has a sticker that says "Designed for windows xp" (it came with media center)and it is vista capable. Now, i would like to change it to an SP2 home, since i really don't use the features for media center and the computer has been messed up by malware. Now, i would like to know if it's actually possible, i have the CD and everything, keys, but i dont want to screw with my computer
Alright, I need to know if I can remove windows XP Professional. It was the first operating system installed. I want to wipe the entire harddrive of EVERYTHING on it and have windows like when it was first installed. I have the windows XP HOME CD key, so I'm guessing I might have to go from Pro to Home, which is fine with me. Is there a way to do this? I'm sorry, not very good with PCs.
I currently have windows xp home. I want to install windows xp home. how do i install it so i can keep my files from xp home. cause when i install xp pro i dont wana loose personal files or data.
I have a second computer in my home which I want to upgrade from Windows Me to Windows XP. I have found Windows XP Professional discs (OEM) from reputable online merchants at a cheaper price than XP Home. I don't know how it can be cheaper. Can I network the two computers with one using XP Home and the other using XP Professional? If I should purchase XP Professional, can I install it also on the computer using XP Home to upgrade it to Professional without any problems
Dell with Windows XP Professional on it and 160 GB hard drive. When I got the computer home I went right into the Administrator Identity and began to use the computer. I was thrilled with it, so much harddrive and 512 MB Ram. After I had put a lot of my data on the computer I thought I might try another identity for other uses. So I went in to create a new identity. When I had finished with the new Identity the original Administration Identity that I had been working with for months no longer existed. After much consternation I did a system restore and got my original identity back. But what I want to know is how can I create a new identity without losing everything in the original Identity and I realize I should have gone on through Administrator to create the first identity. The original thread for this question has been closed.
Is this possible I was wondering, I have 2 sets windows xp pro. I use pro currently for 2 of my other systems. I want to downgrade to home edition ,cause pro uses more ram. Since my other system has only 128 sd ram, tends to be a little slow. I also have another comp bought from store that came with winxp home ed. instead its on a 2 restore cds ,using ghost. Is it possible for me to use the restore cds on other comp? or taking out xp home ed out of ghost files? or is this like a bad thing?. I also have the cdkey of xp home, cause it says on the cd jewel case.
I have a windows xp home edition pc here, and I cannot use it no more, 2 days ago it was working fine, until yesterday, i only had a blank screen, with the cursor. I can move the cursor around but he rest is black. No hard drive activity I have tried safe mode, but that doesn't work either, I have service pack 2 installed since bot up months ago. When i restart I get the LOADING WINDOWS XP LOGO which basically tells me that it is loading but instead of staying there it's usual time of about 10 to 15 seconds it can stay there 3 minutes or more (blue bar keeps moving) allot of hard drive activity, after that where the sign in screen should apprear i get the cursor and black screen with nothing and hard drive activity stops. I cna only move ht ecursor around but nothing else.
Someone gave me a laptop that didn't work. It's a HP Pavillion ze 4900.It originally had xp home on it, so I ordered a new disk to install on it. It was saying that some files were not found. It would do nothing. It also has a password on it. I did find out the password from them. I tried doing the repair installation and it didn't work, so I formatted the partition and tried to re-install to it. The problem is that when it finished formatting and then loading the windows files, when it restarts from there I have to put in the password again and it starts all over. I have done this 2x now and still it keeps doing the same thing. I just turned it off and thought
What do you do when windows xp home crashes? I can not boot up, all I get is the revolving screen of choices to either boot normal, boot in safe mode, boot in safe mode with logging etc. Any of the choices just brings me back to the same screen. If I insert my OS recovery CD, it wants to wipe the hard drive and start fresh.
I have a PC with Windows XP home. I am selling this PC without windows and want to format my C: drive. In the old days I would get Windows 98 to create a Bootable disk with a format command but Windows XP does not allow me to do this, I think. So what is the best way to format C: before selling my PC.
no matter what i tried istill get no sound.ive checked all drivers they appear to be enabled and working fine as for everything else.i go to win media player and i get this message media player cannot play file because there is a problem with your sound device there might not be a sound device installed on your comp it might be in use by another program or it might not be fuctionning properly?)iget similar message when i use real player both are current.then when i go to sound and audio properties the place for volume control is all gray?can someone pleeze help me?im ready to throw my comp off the poarch>the model is a dell dimension 2400
i'm in the process of upgrading my PC and i want to get Windows XP, now, i have two questions, i have been told that Windows XP needs 4.5GB of space to install, this seems like an insane amount, and as i seem to only have 2.0GB available, not achievable, however, if this is not true, and i can install it, is the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade with SP2 what i need, as it says upgrade, does it mean upgrade from ME to XP? As that is what i have, or is it an upgrade from SP1 to SP2? Or do i need Windows XP Home Edition with SP2? Or should i get SP1? This is, however, if i have enough memory
I am using Windows XP Home Edition. Should I download & install the windows updates? There are so many of them, and I never know which ones I need. I never updated before because I only had a 7GB HD & it took up too much space. I now have a bigger computer & just want to know from the experts.
When building computers, opting for Windows XP Home saves you good money, money you can put into better computer parts (like that Thermaltake Armor Jr. case!). I'm building another computer, so does anyone know the differences between XP Home SP2 and XP Pro SP2, and if XP Pro is worth the extra $40-50?
computer came with Windows XP Home installed. I have the disk to upgrade to Professional and did so. My automatic updater downloaded SP2. When SP2 was installed; my computer reverted back to XP Home. Should I re-install XP Pro or is the same thing going to happen again
My computer is in real need of a reformat and I have an OEM version of Windows XP Home. Will I be able to reformat and reinstall windows using it? I've heard that you can only do that with retail.
since then i have reformatted my hard drive and used other operating systems on my computer. if i reformat and install windows xp home again, will the key that came with my computer work?i won't be using the same disks that came with my system, i will be using a generic purchased version but i will use the serial that came with my system? is it going to work?
is it ok to partition a hdd with an OEM version of windows XP home installed on it? i want to buy this oem copy of XP home(http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=949&category_id=225&manufacturer_id=0) for an existing PC, which already has another OS on it. I have to wipe the hard drive before I can install the OEM XP home, since this version was meant to be distributed with new PCs only. But after I've wiped it, and have installed XP home, I plan to partition the drive and install another OS, is that ok?
I have a retail version on xp pro which I slipstream it with sp2 Now my brother has a retail version of home which I also slipstream it with sp2 , My problem is I can't remember which copy is xp pro or home , Is there a way to find out what copy of windows is on a disc without having to install it ?
I have lost my Home Page. Everything I enter goes blank as soon as I click off and then go back to check it. When ever I try to launch Internet Explorer, all I get is a blank page. My ISP tech said it was proably a Browser Hijacker. Dell 4700; Windows XP Home, service pack 2; Outlook Express Pentium 4
I am running Windows XP Home Edition, and I have recently been having frequent crash errors. Everything seems to be running fine and suddenly the screen goes blue and a long message shows that said that the computer is shutting down to prevent a crash.
I recently reinstalled windows XP home edition to counteract a virus. Everthing's working fine now from what I can tell, except sound. the troublshooting provided by windows so far hasn't turned up anything and the updating from windows' site hasn't helped either. my control panel says that only my usb device is being read although the speaker system is hooked up exactly as before.
