when opening windows xp the screen gets to the windows xp with the little green light going back and forth in the rectangle box. this green light goes back and forth 3 or 4 times then freezes and you cant go further then that.

I recently reinstalled windows XP home edition to counteract a virus. Everthing's working fine now from what I can tell, except sound. the troublshooting provided by windows so far hasn't turned up anything and the updating from windows' site hasn't helped either. my control panel says that only my usb device is being read although the speaker system is hooked up exactly as before.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running windows xp pro edition. When I switch on my pc it loads the icons, then for a split second my desktop background flashes and then turnes blue. This is also repeated when I shut down the puter. When I right click, and click on properties, I then click on desktop and you can only select a color as your background? The browse button is frozen, the scroll bar is frozen as well. They are a tanish color and unclickable. Can someone please help me change my background back to an image? I have been using "Webshots desktop" for years and have never had any problems.

My next step was to download updates from MS windows updates. That is when something odd happened, I clicked on IE icon it opened up and said page could not be loaded (MSN default). I am using a wireless network and can access Windows up date from my HP computer with no problem. On the Gateway I can go to other sights except microsoft.

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy sister's Windows XP Home Edition isn't loading. It turns on, appears with a screen that asks to pick between Safe Mode etc, Last Known Config. & Start normally... I've tried all three, safe mode starts to load but doesn't get to the log in screen. Last known and start normally sounds like it is beginning to load but it goes straight to a blank screen.
At one stage, after I turned off and on the computer, the screen alerts me that the CMOS settings are wrong, so I go into the settings and the time and date is wrong...I adjust these to the correct settings, restart and still, nothing loads.
