i'm currently using XP Powertoy to automate the login process of my PC. I've entered my Domain username and password so that everytime when the PC boots up it will automatically log me on. The problem that i'm having is that if there's a power failure and the PC boots up when i'm not there , others will have access to my files and folders. Is there any way to automatically lock the PC after the logon process.
Problem is that on startup, a window is automatically opening. The window is: C:program filesdell This only started happening a few days ago after trying to watch a DVD
hope I'm in the right place.... When I log on my home PC (Window XP with Office 2003), I'd like Outlook and Explorer to open automatically, rather than having to select them from the Start menu.
Most of the time when I try to use my right mouse button ( for example, right clicking on an icon, photograph, file name) will freeze up the system and it will become un-responsive right away.If I am doing a word doc, I can right click for spell check and that works fine, or right click the start menu.I have a Dell computer running XP service pack 3 with a pent D 2.33Ghz and 1 G memory. tried renaming Normal.dotm, as someone had suggested, but it made no difference.

Why should a computer reset sometimes when the Num Lock or Caps Lock key is pressed? I have tried turning Num Lock off in the Bios to see if that would help. But same thing happens The system is as follows Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition BIOS Version DateAmerican Megatrends Inc. 07.00T, 02/04/2001 Motherboard MSI745 Ultra Processor AMD Athlon 1200 (BUT SHOWS UP AS 900) Keyboard DescriptionStandard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard.
It's not my computer, it's my friend's computer. He is unable to get passed the windows login. We have tried all 3 logins including the administrator and guest accounts. On all of them, it automatically logs back out even before getting to the desktop. Also, booting into safe mode produces a BSOD with stop error message. I'd just reformat it but my friend doesn't want to lose all of his data.
its been about 3 or 4 months since i built this computer there have been no hardware problems but recently windows keep opening tabs. while playing a game it would minimize but there is no other window, there would be sounds that explorer would open new tabs. Ive got 2 links that i've sent to my desktop. When I click one it opens fine, and when I double click the other, it kills my previous site and opens in that same window.I'm beside myself in trying to find why this is happening. It does not happen on my laptop while using IE6.Just wondering is there some little setting that I am missing?
I'm not sure my question belongs in this venue and trust someone will kindly direct it elsewhere if applicable. When I convert a document to a PDF file, Windows XP Pro automatically tries to open the new PDF file with Miscrosoft Office Picture Manager. Further, when opening a PDF file from Windows Exploder (pun intended) I have to go the extra step of telling Windows to "open with" Acrobat 6.0 or it will automatically try to open with Picture Manager.
When my computer boots up there are two (2) instances of Windows Explorer opening and I can't figure out where they are started from. They don't show up in any of the Startup folders in the Documents and Settings. Where the heck are they? Can anyone tell me how to find the source so I can turn them off?
I just Installed XP SP2 on a Gateway ESX 500s. The installation seemed to go well, the OS installed all the drivers except the usual (sound and network card). My next step was to download updates from MS windows updates. That is when something odd happened, I clicked on IE icon it opened up and said page could not be loaded (MSN default). I am using a wireless network and can access Windows up date from my HP computer with no problem. On the Gateway I can go to other sights except microsoft.

When I open Control panel and then printers, the properties window will not open fully. Part of the info is cut off. There is no maximize button and I can not drag any corners. Reloaded print driver, no help.

when I go to start and over to windows update up top this is what shows up - Use your Start menu to check for updates. Windows Update is now included in Control Panel. In the future, to check for updates (or if this webpage doesn’t open Windows Update automatically): Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
problem also is when I click start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update it is not there. But is is on start and above programs - just not in the programs area. and when I click on it a web page shows up saying - Use your Start menu to check for updates. Windows Update is now included in Control Panel. In the future, to check for updates (or if this webpage doesn’t open Windows Update automatically): Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
I am sure that everyone knows that you can lock your account in XP, blah, blah. But if I am doing something important, I don't want other administrators to be able to log me off!Is there a registry key/local poicy/other solution so that only I can unlock my account when I lock it?

I am half way computer literate, but this one has me. I am hoping someone can tell me where to look. When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens. When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.
I work as a technician in a number of Primary Schools and I have been asked by some of the schools if there is a way to ensure that Number Lock is switched off on all machines before they log in. I have done a few searches on google but have no results that work.I have tried editing the registry however this only works AFTER they have logged in. Disabling Num Lock at boot in bios doesn't work as windows likes to override this setting. The reason i have been asked for this is that the schools have Laptops which the children use and when they are typing in their usernames they are obviously getting a mixture of numbers and letters in the username field.Does anyone have ANY ideas how i can disable the number lock at boot?
