No Add/remove Programs - Cannot Install The Windows Installer.
May 7, 2007
Right, I've uninstalled Windows Installer and installed the latest version, but it didnt install properly and I have no add/remove programs and cannot install the Windows Installer.
I've tryed reinstalling in safe mode, rebooting about 9 times and I cannot install it
windows installer not working tried downloading it and reinsalling it but still no joy, can't install any new programs. I have also reinstalled windows xp
I had noticed that I could copy but not paste. For example, I could right click an icon on the Desktop and copy it, but using Ctrl-V or right-clicking on the Desktop to Paste did not work. In fact, the option is not even highlighted in the shortcut menu. Even to drag and drop an item from one folder to another is not possible. However, I can copy and paste text, like copying and pasting a sentence is MS Word. I also found out that I cannot install any programs on this same computer. This is the exact error message I get when trying to install Ad-Aware:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. "
When I turn my computer on there is a long pause/ delay before windows initiates at start up. It lasts about 1 min until Windows finally boots. Immediately after Windows starts up a window pops up titled: Windows Installer - Preparing to install. This started all of the sudden tonight, not really sure why or what caused it but has anyone ever heard of either of these errors? I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, AVG Anti Virus, Ccleaner, CWShredder, Ewido, RegCleaner, Spware Blaster, Spybot. Also, I have been using Avg Free Editon Virus Scan and Windows Firewall and still managed to get 2 viruses today while they were running. Can you recommend a top of the line virus scan and firewall. I have been told that Pc-Cillin is a good virus scan because it has an integrated virus scan and firewall.
This is an odd problem that just won't go away, I have a friends computer who has win XP sp-2 they had Norton 2005 on it and uninstalled it cause it is just junk anyway. But the problem is that any program that needs to be installed or updated now gives the message that you need to install the norton disk in CD drive for unknownname install. In event viewer is says "Source: MsiInstaller, Type: Warning, Category: none, Event ID: 1001, Description: Detection of product '{C6F5B6CF-609C-428E-CA83176C021B}', feature 'Complete' failed during request for component'{A07EA0AF-E117-4A34-8D54-5D826F12988C}' for more help & support" blah, blah no help at web link. Also I cannot get windows update site to even load with anything in it all no message just blank, other websites seem fine.
i bought a mobo and cpu combo at frys. built my pc up. tried to install windows. but i got an error message saying "if this is your first time getting this error,, please restart the installlation.if the porblem persists, please uninstall any new drivers or remove any new hardware." so i tried a bunch of stuff. and finally i got a new mobo and cpu. windows installed fine; then i tried installing world of warcraft. it froze in the same exact place everytime on the 3rd disk. after the 3rd time of restarting my pc because of this lock up, my task bar was gone. i tried restarting my pc many times, but no task bar. i tried installing windows again and i got the original error message i got on the last time i tried to reinstall windows. (by the way, before my task bar was gone and everything, i cliked on my computer and looked at my ram. it said 256mb of ram. i have 512mb stick!).....
I went into "Control Panel" and clicked on Sounds and Audio Devices. That brought up the dialog box: Sounds and Audio Devices. Then I can pick either the Audio or Voice tabs. (They both have volume buttons.) Then when I push the Volume button I get the following error message:
Windows cannot execute SndVol32.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install.
So, I go into Add or Remove Programs and select "Add New Programs" on the far left. Then I push the "CD or Floppy" button. Then I'm asked to insert the installation CD. So, I put in the Windows install disk and click Next. (In the I386 folder of the install disk is a file named: "SNDVOL32.EX_." That's why I think I need to select I386.) So, after I push Next, up pops a box called "Run Installation Program." In the Open box is: D:SETUP.EXE. To the right of that is a Browse button. I push it and up pops the Browse box showing several folders and a file. I select I386 and it contains several folders and 3 files: NETSETUP.EXE, USETUP.EXE and WINNT32.MSI.
Should I select one of those files or folders or should I do something completely different?
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?

I have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."
My laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.
"Change/Remove" button is missing for ALL installed programs. If I install a new program, it appears, but for all apps installed previously - it is gone.
The majority of the applications listed in the Add/Remove Programs menu of the Control Panel no longer have the Change and/or Remove buttons visible. Is there any way I can restore these without having to do something evil like a restore?
I would like to remove Windows Messenger off of my laptop. The "add/remove" programs does'nt have a item for me to select to remove it. Right-clicking on the icon in the toolbar doesnt give me an option.
Just did an upgrade install of Win2k on a Win98SE system. I've had this computer for ages and did not want to do a clean install. The upgrade went fine except for one problem. In my add/remove program section all of my previously installed programs are missing. They were not deleted, just missing from add/remove.How do I restore these programs back into the add/remove program section?
My computer has had this problem for quite some time now. When I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, only the recently installed programs have the Change/Remove button. How can i make this button appear for my old programs as well?
I want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove. But, according to the HDD the program is *still* installed. Did not find an "uninstall" or "unwise" file in the QB folder. Nor did
I have a amd 2400 processor and i'm using windows mediacentre xp2002. I had uninstalled some programs from my system but they are still in the add-and-remove utility in the control panel. How should i remove them from there?
Running XP on a 120 gig disk. It is partitioned and I can only use 70 gb and am running out of space. Is there any way to remove the partition and be able to use the full disk without losing all my files and programs? There is nothing on the smaller partition.
Computer handed to me for problem fixing (here fix) - had a virus of some kind (unknown) someone else tried to resolve unsuccessfully.Windows XP SP2 (HP Pavilion Media Center Pc I've started to investigate...Windows installer problem unable to load / unload some programs.Specifically as a test I'm tryin gto remove Windows Defender from the Add/Remove programs - unsuccessful get message...The Windows installer Service could not be accessed.
I have finally decided that my problems with uninstalling are related to the Windows Installer being corrupt.I reregistered this in Safe Mode but it didn't fix the problem. So I ran SFC but when it asked to insert the CD which I did, I got a message "The CD you have provided is the wrong CD. Please insert the Windows XP Professional Cd-ROM..."I only have the one CD - it came with the computer and is " Windows XP Professional includes Service Pack 2."
I try to install something using windows installer, I get the "preparing to install" screen and then it says that windows installer couldn't be accessed. I'm not running in safe mode, and I didn't do anything to change this. I looked online and it said to go into the registry and check the msiexec file to make sure its in the system folder, and it is. I've tried re installing and even though it says it successfully reinstalled, it still wont work.
I'd like help please. When I try to install windows installer 3.1, it fails about half way through. I get an error msg saying "access denied", and it aborts completely.I'm not sure that matters for windows installer itself, but until I successfully install that, I dont' think I'm getting access to any other windows updates I DO need.
"C or file. You may not have appropriate permissions."Also,"The windows installer service could not be accessed"It is a customer's PC running XP Media Center.PC came to me with initial problem of blank desktop. Explorer.exe was NOT running and could not be started from Start > Run in Task Manager. However, it WAS possible to go through Browse and open files and existing programs that way.Managed to fix that by uninstalling various Google products like Desktop, Updater and Toolbar. Somehow, this enabled all programs I tried to run. The customer only had IE 8 on machine. Could open a Web Page in Word which made me suspicious why IE could not establish connection even after resetting etc etc. Found safari and managed to get on Web fine. Removed Google products as mentioned and all seemed fine.As IE still playing up decided to re-install it. All fine except that "checking your computer for malicious software" had red x next to it. Hmm, I thought.IE also keeps sending me on strange redirects (no other browser does) so suspected Malware.
I have a windows XP box with SP 3. Once booted into Windows I immediately start getting Windows Installer trying to install something. Clearly there is a failed installation in there that windows installer keeps trying to install but can't. When try to intall something new I get the "This happens with windows in running in safe mode or windows installer is installed incorrectly" message. I tried installing windows installer 3.1, but it tells me it is already installed and quits. I tried installing the Windows Intaller Cleanup program that RProffit linked to, but then I get the windows installer is broken message and it can't install. Seems like I am in for a reformat and reload?
