View 11 RepliesI have a campaq notebook that runs windows xp, when I start up it does fine until I click into the user name. Once it gets to my screen the windows installer automatically pops up and tells me it is preparing to install photogallery which to the best of my knowledge I don't have. It atempts to install until a screen pops up that says omething about needing a cd to install. If you cancel out it tries it atleast 2 more times. It is really agrivating me as it takes almost ten minutes to get through all of this before I can do anything else. If someone could help I would be greatful. I already tried to unistall the program and it isn't there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what is going on. I Have windows xp on my computer and now every time I open anything outlook, internet explorer, programs start menu etc this windows installer box pops up and says "preparing to install".
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever Internet Explorer 7 is opened, the installer opens up only a cancel button, and sits there for a couple of minutes. Then finally the browser loads, after that it will sometimes pop up during simple searches. I downloaded firefox, and it runs fine, but I'd like to fix this problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have finally decided that my problems with uninstalling are related to the Windows Installer being corrupt.I reregistered this in Safe Mode but it didn't fix the problem. So I ran SFC but when it asked to insert the CD which I did, I got a message "The CD you have provided is the wrong CD. Please insert the Windows XP Professional Cd-ROM..."I only have the one CD - it came with the computer and is " Windows XP Professional includes Service Pack 2."
View 6 Replies View RelatedI try to install something using windows installer, I get the "preparing to install" screen and then it says that windows installer couldn't be accessed. I'm not running in safe mode, and I didn't do anything to change this. I looked online and it said to go into the registry and check the msiexec file to make sure its in the system folder, and it is. I've tried re installing and even though it says it successfully reinstalled, it still wont work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like help please. When I try to install windows installer 3.1, it fails about half way through. I get an error msg saying "access denied", and it aborts completely.I'm not sure that matters for windows installer itself, but until I successfully install that, I dont' think I'm getting access to any other windows updates I DO need.
View 1 Replies View Related"C or file. You may not have appropriate permissions."Also,"The windows installer service could not be accessed"It is a customer's PC running XP Media Center.PC came to me with initial problem of blank desktop. Explorer.exe was NOT running and could not be started from Start > Run in Task Manager. However, it WAS possible to go through Browse and open files and existing programs that way.Managed to fix that by uninstalling various Google products like Desktop, Updater and Toolbar. Somehow, this enabled all programs I tried to run. The customer only had IE 8 on machine. Could open a Web Page in Word which made me suspicious why IE could not establish connection even after resetting etc etc. Found safari and managed to get on Web fine. Removed Google products as mentioned and all seemed fine.As IE still playing up decided to re-install it. All fine except that "checking your computer for malicious software" had red x next to it. Hmm, I thought.IE also keeps sending me on strange redirects (no other browser does) so suspected Malware.

The Windows Installer device could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. My OS is Windows XP with sp2. I am not running windows in safe mode.
When I turn my computer on there is a long pause/ delay before windows initiates at start up. It lasts about 1 min until Windows finally boots. Immediately after Windows starts up a window pops up titled: Windows Installer - Preparing to install. This started all of the sudden tonight, not really sure why or what caused it but has anyone ever heard of either of these errors? I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, AVG Anti Virus, Ccleaner, CWShredder, Ewido, RegCleaner, Spware Blaster, Spybot. Also, I have been using Avg Free Editon Virus Scan and Windows Firewall and still managed to get 2 viruses today while they were running. Can you recommend a top of the line virus scan and firewall. I have been told that Pc-Cillin is a good virus scan because it has an integrated virus scan and firewall.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI only have a 70GB hard drive and having recently used "treesize" have found that the reason I was always running out of space appears to be down to the 55GB of Windows INstaller Patches that are on the computer. I am sure that most of these are not required but have no idea what they are, what they do, or if they need to be there or not. As their individual sizes range from a few KB to hundreds of MB, I would like to delete as many as ppossible but need advice as to what / how

On startup a box pops up and says that lass.exe has terminated unexpectedly and the system will be restarted in 60 seconds. It does this in normal mode and safe mode.I don't think there is any antivirus on the machine, as a brillant student uninstalled it because it was expired and she needed space for mp3s. Not good I know. This is a Dell Dimension 4500 with 128 meg of ram and WinXP home.
Okay, here is my story. Around early august, I built a new gaming rig pretty much all by myself. All the parts cost nearly $800. But another guy did a few things for me, and set up the BIOS.Anyway,I installed a bunch of drivers on some cd's I had, and it looked like I was good to go. Anyway, from then to now, I have been through BSoD heck, among other problems.
The USB's killed 2 of my flash drives, and an ipod.I don't know how, but it defidenntly isn't a coincidence all of those things died.Anyway,I get BSoD's in the most random times,it happens a while I start my pc up. I can barely play games like Bioshock because of this problem.the error message that usually pops up on the BSoD is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
After I run "regedit" (instead of getting Registry) black command box pops up but it won't allow me to type in any commands at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen shutting down my computer, I get a box that pops up and says program not responding C:documents/settings (that's the most I can see.. I can't see the whole path name). When I click on the end now, the error goes away and the computer shuts down properly. I looked in the task manager to see if anything was running and I didn't see anything and all programs look to be shut down before I tried to shut the computer down. I have Windows XP and I don't understand why something in C:documents/setting would be doing this.
