I'd like help please. When I try to install windows installer 3.1, it fails about half way through. I get an error msg saying "access denied", and it aborts completely.I'm not sure that matters for windows installer itself, but until I successfully install that, I dont' think I'm getting access to any other windows updates I DO need.

Windows Installer for MS Office 2000 is trying to install something but the installer has gets access denied at the share where originally installed from. No changes to the system have been made except leaving on auto-updates on our XP machines. Users can freely access the share, yet Windows Installer gets access denied. What gives? Has there been a recent update to Windows Installer that is causing grief on Server 2003 + XP domains. Have not installed 2003 Server SP1 patch yet even.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003

So I ran SFC but when it asked to insert the CD which I did, I got a message "The CD you have provided is the wrong CD. I'm not running in safe mode, and I didn't do anything to change this. I looked online and it said to go into the registry and check the msiexec file to make sure its in the system folder, and it is. Explorer.exe was NOT running and could not be started from Start > Run in Task Manager. However, it WAS possible to go through Browse and open files and existing programs that way.Managed to fix that by uninstalling various Google products like Desktop, Updater and Toolbar. Somehow, this enabled all programs I tried to run. The customer only had IE 8 on machine. Could open a Web Page in Word which made me suspicious why IE could not establish connection even after resetting etc etc. Found safari and managed to get on Web fine. Removed Google products as mentioned and all seemed fine.As IE still playing up decided to re-install it. All fine except that "checking your computer for malicious software" had red x next to it. Hmm, I thought.IE also keeps sending me on strange redirects (no other browser does) so suspected Malware.

When I turn my computer on there is a long pause/ delay before windows initiates at start up. It lasts about 1 min until Windows finally boots. Immediately after Windows starts up a window pops up titled: Windows Installer - Preparing to install. This started all of the sudden tonight, not really sure why or what caused it but has anyone ever heard of either of these errors? I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, AVG Anti Virus, Ccleaner, CWShredder, Ewido, RegCleaner, Spware Blaster, Spybot. Also, I have been using Avg Free Editon Virus Scan and Windows Firewall and still managed to get 2 viruses today while they were running. Can you recommend a top of the line virus scan and firewall. I have been told that Pc-Cillin is a good virus scan because it has an integrated virus scan and firewall.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to locate the registry subkey causing the problem, however (as shown in the attached picture) the problem isn't in the usual vnd.ms.radio (infact, that file isn't mentioned at all in the setupapi file), but in the DependOnService. Problem is, it doesn't exist under the directories listed. As shown in the second uploaded picture, it's not in the SSDPSRV directory itself, and the only subdirectories are a pyramid of jibberish (none of which contain anything except a "(Default)" value).

My account has Administrator privileges. I've tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the driver, and the same fault occurs.
