Getting Windows Installer Screen Always Coming Up At Startup / Staying On The Monitor
Apr 8, 2008
I'm having two problems with my computer. I'm getting the windows installer screen always coming up at startup and staying on the monitor until I press cntl + alt + delete and then i'm getting that window in the background or bottom of the screen toolbar.
Winxp media center edition.Something I did has caused a login screen to come up and freeze the startup until I close it. Asks for a password but a click will make it disappear. How do I get it off?
When I turn my computer on there is a long pause/ delay before windows initiates at start up. It lasts about 1 min until Windows finally boots. Immediately after Windows starts up a window pops up titled: Windows Installer - Preparing to install. This started all of the sudden tonight, not really sure why or what caused it but has anyone ever heard of either of these errors? I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, AVG Anti Virus, Ccleaner, CWShredder, Ewido, RegCleaner, Spware Blaster, Spybot. Also, I have been using Avg Free Editon Virus Scan and Windows Firewall and still managed to get 2 viruses today while they were running. Can you recommend a top of the line virus scan and firewall. I have been told that Pc-Cillin is a good virus scan because it has an integrated virus scan and firewall.
I start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......
the Windows Installer screen opens telling me it is trying to install a program that is already installed,(usually driver for HP 4110 printer drivers). If I don't cancel it immediately, eventually an error screen appears telling me the file I'm seeking is not available and to insert the installation CD. I've tried re-installing the drivers by inserting the CD, but then an error message appears saying the drivers are already installed. This is getting frustrating?
On one of my older computers running windows xp, i am having a annoying problem. Most of the time when i try to play a video on it, it will have a little windows installer window pop up(i had the ace mega codec pack installed on but it was really bad and kept me from even playing video so i uninstalled it)it has been a while since i used that pc but now i have it plugged up to a tv and a speaker system in my room and am not in for reinstalling windows (everything else runs 100% fine very fast and smooth)
I just moved in to college and set up my computer, but due to limited space didn't bring my second monitor. Now my aim, and ventrilo windows are still on the other monitor but no way to get them to the current monitor for use.
When Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3 monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.
window on start up and my speakers on my laptop not working. This started out with the speakers I turned down the volume to nothing while playing a game and then I tried to turn it back up I got no sound from internal speakers. tried all the options in the volume looking for anything muted but nothing. Tried to update the sound card drivers with the same results of no sound out of the internal speakers. when starting my laptop I had a smaller then the normal screen when starting up, same size on my main screen. able to change to a higher resolution to fill the entire screen but if I go any lower then the highest resolution I have a black boarder were the window should be.
Using XP Home. Have Professional to try too which hasn't worked. OK, so about a month ago, I started getting BSOD, more and more regularly, until my computer wont start. So naturally, I try and reformat and reinstall. BSOD. So, I took it apart, put it back together, tried to reinstall, BSOD.
my darn gateway monitor screen is too wide. How do i reduce it to the regular size? I pressed Ctrl and held down on the scroll lock and nothing happens. i tried to reset it with the monitor button but nothing happens.i can not view the right side graphic on my monitor
For some reason, sometimes when I start my computer, after having put it in hibernation, the screen is blank. This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).
I lob this outta the window Im running a windows xp desktop and having troubles when trying to play yahoo games, after downloading java i had two probs one was i was running in safe mode,im now out of safe mode and running the comp normally the other thing was it says i might need to do is run windows installer again. heres where i have the problem! where or how do i run windows installer? im using firefox
My computer after, we believe, a power surge during the wee hours of the morning a week ago can no longer totally boot up. Once powered on, it will go to a black screen, detailing how windows did not start properly. And something about it being due to or causing a hardware or software change.
I don't know what's going on with my PC. I have a HP 6420nx windows xp.
My PC suddenly froze while I was using it so I turned it off for a couple of minutes. THen when I turned it back on, it started making beeping noises. There was also no start up screen, the monitor is just blank.
I bought the game Lord Of the Rings:Return of the King yesterday, I installed it and when I start the game I can hear the music and everything perfectly but the screen is completely blank! Even the game starts with the screen blank! But I can hear the audio perfectly.I have all the latest drivers and DirectX versions, my graphics card is Nvidia GeForce2
Here we go again! i recently signed up with cable internet. this computer worked great before i signed up and since then ive had nothing but problems. i think it has contracted a virus registry, i am sure everyone remembers that old thing! well i remembered how to shut down the pop ups. i think it has messed up the comp as it wont stay online. flrman1 helped me back in 2005 and im hoping he will help me again! i just need to fix it, i should be starting LPN online courses soon and i need the computer and i cant afford to just go buy another one PLEASE FLRMAN1 come rescue me.
Computer handed to me for problem fixing (here fix) - had a virus of some kind (unknown) someone else tried to resolve unsuccessfully.Windows XP SP2 (HP Pavilion Media Center Pc I've started to investigate...Windows installer problem unable to load / unload some programs.Specifically as a test I'm tryin gto remove Windows Defender from the Add/Remove programs - unsuccessful get message...The Windows installer Service could not be accessed.
I have finally decided that my problems with uninstalling are related to the Windows Installer being corrupt.I reregistered this in Safe Mode but it didn't fix the problem. So I ran SFC but when it asked to insert the CD which I did, I got a message "The CD you have provided is the wrong CD. Please insert the Windows XP Professional Cd-ROM..."I only have the one CD - it came with the computer and is " Windows XP Professional includes Service Pack 2."
I have a new emachnies T6528 computer hooked up to a "Balance digital technology" 17" LCD monitor. If I go to start, shutdown, and then restart, the computer will restart fine again and again. However, if I go to start, shutdown, and "turn off" and shut the computer completely down, then hit the computer power button to start the computer a few hours later or the next day, the monitor says there is no signal. I tried turning the monitor power button on and off. I also tried moving my mouse. The computer does not seem to start or do anything and the only way to turn it off is to cut the power by unpluging it or turning off the switch at the surge protector. Just pushing the computer power button will not turn off the computer when this happens.I checked the cable connections and they are good. For some reason, after cutting the power and turning on the computer again a second time, it works. I have been through the scenaro several times and it works the same way each time.
I have Kaspersky, Registry Mechanic, PerfectDisk, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and Adaware. I run them all periodically, and I also regularly run CheckDisk. On top of this, however, my computer still loads slowly at the desktop (the XP splash screen only takes about 2 seconds to pass; I'm just saying it takes a long time when the PC loads at the desktop, the HDD LED staying on for about 2 minutes). What can I do to fix this?
I try to install something using windows installer, I get the "preparing to install" screen and then it says that windows installer couldn't be accessed. I'm not running in safe mode, and I didn't do anything to change this. I looked online and it said to go into the registry and check the msiexec file to make sure its in the system folder, and it is. I've tried re installing and even though it says it successfully reinstalled, it still wont work.
Right, I've uninstalled Windows Installer and installed the latest version, but it didnt install properly and I have no add/remove programs and cannot install the Windows Installer.
I've tryed reinstalling in safe mode, rebooting about 9 times and I cannot install it
I'd like help please. When I try to install windows installer 3.1, it fails about half way through. I get an error msg saying "access denied", and it aborts completely.I'm not sure that matters for windows installer itself, but until I successfully install that, I dont' think I'm getting access to any other windows updates I DO need.
"C or file. You may not have appropriate permissions."Also,"The windows installer service could not be accessed"It is a customer's PC running XP Media Center.PC came to me with initial problem of blank desktop. Explorer.exe was NOT running and could not be started from Start > Run in Task Manager. However, it WAS possible to go through Browse and open files and existing programs that way.Managed to fix that by uninstalling various Google products like Desktop, Updater and Toolbar. Somehow, this enabled all programs I tried to run. The customer only had IE 8 on machine. Could open a Web Page in Word which made me suspicious why IE could not establish connection even after resetting etc etc. Found safari and managed to get on Web fine. Removed Google products as mentioned and all seemed fine.As IE still playing up decided to re-install it. All fine except that "checking your computer for malicious software" had red x next to it. Hmm, I thought.IE also keeps sending me on strange redirects (no other browser does) so suspected Malware.
Following a recent change of monitor my computer now hangs at the windows logo screen. It also hangs during startup in safe mode and when trying to boot fromthe windows CD.
When i try to install a program i had downloaded from the web, i get a box saying: Windows Installer The Windows Installer device could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. My OS is Windows XP with sp2. I am not running windows in safe mode.
