Winxp media center edition.Something I did has caused a login screen to come up and freeze the startup until I close it. Asks for a password but a click will make it disappear. How do I get it off?
View 2 RepliesI'm having two problems with my computer. I'm getting the windows installer screen always coming up at startup and staying on the monitor until I press cntl + alt + delete and then i'm getting that window in the background or bottom of the screen toolbar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got an AMD Sempron 2600 and a k7Triton Motherboard for Christmas and put them in my computer. After that my computer barely ever would boot up. If it didnt boot up my loading bar on the windows XP screen would freeze (the blue one) although it didnt freeze it actually would move very very slowly but windows would never load. If windows did boot from me choosing last knwn config(only one I tried) then it would boot flawlessly. But know the real problem.... I came home from school and had not turned my comp off in 2 days (hibernating) and my computer seemed to be slow i pressed ctrl+alt+del and my CPU Usage said 100%! even tho I was barely runing anything so i turned off my computer(not hibernate)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been searching for cure for my sister's laptop. It is a Presario 2500, with 512 mb of ram. I recently restored the operating system (3-4 weeks ago) because of a virus she got. She said she shut down her computer yesterday using start>turn off computer>restart. When the computer went to restart, it freezes completely on the blue "windows is starting" screen immediately before the login screen. The computer was restarted again and froze at the same screen. I tried to have her start in safe-mode and last-known configuration to no avail.

I was trying to eliminate the login screen from my computer's startup. Initially, I used a tip from Annoyances.org by entering "control userpasswords2" in the Run menu and turning off the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option
It seems like ever since the first xp pro installation i made on this computer i have had nothing but problems. every time i turn on my computer, i see normal computer information before the windows screen, when the windows screen comes, the loading bar freezes at a certain point. It will sit at that point until i restart the computer by the button on the tower. Once it happens once, it will continue to happen until i reinstall windows using the cd. After i reinstall, it will boot up fine, but next time i restart my computer it starts all over.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy computer at home is constantly freezing every single time I start the computer up. It gets to the screen where you can click on a user to login but then it freezes and to restart I need to hold down the power button for 3-5 seconds. I looked through all of my discs and all I have is my Camera Setup, Windows 95, Printer Setup, Acer Recovery Discs (5 of them) and an Acer eMode Management disc. The only thing I have tried so far is to use the Acer Recovery discs but the problem still persists. I have no Windows XP disc and I can't remember getting one when I bought the computer but I might have it somewhere. I'm not sure if it came with the computer because the Acer Recovery discs basically re-installed Windows itself.
It all started when I was on the computer and a storm hit us and there was a power outage while I was on the computer. Since then it just freezes at the login screen. Ask questions and give any suggestions you can give, it is all appreciated as I am desperate to get this fixed! I have no important files on the computer so a reset of the whole computer is fine to do but what discs do I need and how do I do it. I am unsure if it is a virus related problem or a hardware related issue.
A while ago my pc started randomly freezing when i booted up, usually have to reboot three or four times before it works properly, i guess i must have a virus or something but no scans i run pick up anything obvious. Also when i try to shutdown, the screen freezes on the "Windows is preparing to shut down" screen.

The computer was running fine last night but when I started it up this morning it comes to the windows login screen where my user name is already in, but when I try to put my password in the cursors freezes and I can�t do anything. View 6 Replies View RelatedJust the other day I started to be unable to access my IBM thinkpad laptop T60, because it freezes after i press the security control alt delete at login for Windows XP, the one you have to get through before typing in your password. The keyboard works fine until that point, because i have an encryption password/username point to get through before startup, and everything is O.K. However, after I get to CTRL-ALT-DLT, the computer stops recognizing anything even the mouse stops moving. The only thing I can do at this point is to force quit the mouse mysteriously is moveable when it starts shutting down again.

This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.

In the first error if I click on OK for the GetLastError=2hDevice=fffffff I get the error in the second error about tttFailed to open GVCpl WinNT driver Please reboot your system. The other message just goes away (Could not start GPCIDrv driver). It seems to be tied to the Gigabyte driver. The other thing that I have noticed is that Wall Watcher doesn't log anything anymore.

I tried to boot in safe mode and it still requires I click a user. I hit CNTRL+DEL+ALT twice to log on but it wouldnt take my password so I have no way to get into my system. After some use the computer freezes and goes blank, this is normally an hour or so after I have been using it. I then have to manually restart the computer and it freezes just after the BIOS information comes up but just before the XP loading screens comes up. In BIOS I change some of the settings and it works again but then the same thing happens again. Now I cant even load from the hard drive because some of the windows files are corrupted.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my Laptop which has just started locking up seconds after switching on after crashing.I was chatting on MSN and sent a message, and at the moment i hit enter the thing froze and i had no choice but to pull the plug since it wasnt responding in any way. Then when i tried to start it up again, it wouldnt. It gets to the screen where it gives you the options (eg. DEL > Setup F8 > Boot Menu etc) and a few lines of text afterwards and then just stops.I've tried going on each of the options (setup. boot menu, boot network) but it just changes to GO > Setup or whatever, then gets the same line of text below and stops. I cant get to the safe mode screen, and i cant seem to Boot from any CD's either

View 6 Replies View Relatedmy computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
I was just typing along in a word document when my whole screen on my laptop flipped. File, Edit etc are across the bottom and start and all those things normally across the bottom are on the top - but upside down. The mouse is working backwards as well. MAJOR PAIN. When I restart it, the Windows screen comes up correctly but from the login screen on everything is flipped. View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided to "reinstall" Windows XP on my laptop. I stuck the reinstall disk into the computer and let it go. After about 1 hour of "reinstalling", the computer restarted, after that, the window was only one half the size and I couldn't change the monitor resolution size. (but, it showed the old desktop information so I knew right away that I hadn't actually reinstalled to the original state, but just reinstalled over the current desktop).
I restarted the computer to see if the window screen would enlarge to the full size. It did return to the full screen size, but Now, it freezes at the part of startup where the screen says "Windows is starting up". I left it on for 20 minutes and it was still frozen. SHould I insert the Windows XP disk again, to start over or what? Or click reboot after hitting the F2 button??
