Jul 18, 2005about an hour ago, i reformatted my computer and now it freezes constantly.It usually freezes on startup. I have Norotn Anti-Virus installed and all of the latest Windows updates.

CPU Usage At 100% / PC Freezes Constantly ?
Jan 7, 2009computer running slow - cpu usage at 100% My computer has been lagging something terrible, to the point I am rebooting frequently because I freeze. It shows my that my CPU usage is at 100% and I havent done anything to have warranted this. Yesterday ran program called Advanced systemcare and seemed to clear up for while only to have it begin to bog down a few hours later.

Feb 24, 2010My computer recently began to freeze, about the time when I updated to Firefox 3.6. At first I thought it was just the internet that was messed up, but it began to freeze even though I wasn't using the internet. Randomly it would just freeze, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few seconds. I have to hit the power button because leaving it alone for a while won't work. I tried to clean the registry but it didn't work. I have a Windows XP, its a desktop computer, I have Intel, and its about 4 years old. if you need any more info please ask! I've had many problems with this computer but I can't afford to buy another one for another two years. Please help! I don't know what else to do.

Jan 9, 2008My computer has worked very well for years, but a short while ago it has developed this problem.It will freeze at anytime using any software (or none at all) while in normal mode. I ran all the usual checks and balances; virus, spyware, updates, etc. Also, I have researched the issue in this forum and followed the great advise. I have also run tests on the drives, memory, etc. but they all pass. Next, I cloned a new drive, thinking that the old one may be failing (needed a larger HD anyway), but the same problem persisted.

Aug 24, 2007A while ago my pc started randomly freezing when i booted up, usually have to reboot three or four times before it works properly, i guess i must have a virus or something but no scans i run pick up anything obvious. Also when i try to shutdown, the screen freezes on the "Windows is preparing to shut down" screen.

Nov 22, 2006Im extremely frustrated, computer keeps freezing not sure why. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. Also when it freezes i turn the power switch off on the back and then i get a noise from the speakers that sounds like someone tapping on a the desk. How can i discover the problem?

May 6, 2007I need help with Xp freezing in normal mode.Problems I'm having Computer freezes at the welcome(choose profile) screen after 30-60 seconds.If I Immediatly login to my profile, the desktop boots up, but once again freezes.I think it runs for about a minute total before freezing either way.When it freezes the HDD light stops blinking and the scratchy HDD 'reading' sound ceases, but I can still hear it spinning this is constant, not hit and miss(since this began(last evening) I cant get xp to run in normal mode for more than a mintute before freezing)

She said she shut down her computer yesterday using start>turn off computer>restart. When the computer went to restart, it freezes completely on the blue "windows is starting" screen immediately before the login screen. The computer was restarted again and froze at the same screen. The system is scanned clean with Norton System Works, AD AWARE, SpyBot Search, Window Washer, etc. but WILL freeze or lock randomly when I am typing a word doc or sending email with Eudora thru my DSL acct. The only way out is to hard reboot. I don’t know what other diagnostics to perform and I want to stop the “freeze” problem. Any ideas about what I can try next?

Oct 9, 2006So I just rebuilt my PC, installed XP Home edition and installed the SP2 upgrade. I also installed some basic programs such as Norton Anti-Virus, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender. Since this is a fresh copy, you would think no problems right? Well, for some reason, this operating system just freezes everytime I'm trying to either install updates and other programs. It even freezes sometimes after its booted into the OS! There's no spyware or viruses, so I'm thinking it has to do with the SP2 install. I'm also dual booting with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, which is running fine with no problems. I'm thinking about uninstalling SP2 if this solves the problem.

Feb 15, 2007I have recently installed windows on my computer which was fine. After some use the computer freezes and goes blank, this is normally an hour or so after I have been using it. I then have to manually restart the computer and it freezes just after the BIOS information comes up but just before the XP loading screens comes up. In BIOS I change some of the settings and it works again but then the same thing happens again. Now I cant even load from the hard drive because some of the windows files are corrupted.

Oct 12, 2006I'm having a problem with my Laptop which has just started locking up seconds after switching on after crashing.I was chatting on MSN and sent a message, and at the moment i hit enter the thing froze and i had no choice but to pull the plug since it wasnt responding in any way. Then when i tried to start it up again, it wouldnt. It gets to the screen where it gives you the options (eg. DEL > Setup F8 > Boot Menu etc) and a few lines of text afterwards and then just stops.I've tried going on each of the options (setup. boot menu, boot network) but it just changes to GO > Setup or whatever, then gets the same line of text below and stops. I cant get to the safe mode screen, and i cant seem to Boot from any CD's either

Sep 2, 2006It seems like ever since the first xp pro installation i made on this computer i have had nothing but problems. every time i turn on my computer, i see normal computer information before the windows screen, when the windows screen comes, the loading bar freezes at a certain point. It will sit at that point until i restart the computer by the button on the tower. Once it happens once, it will continue to happen until i reinstall windows using the cd. After i reinstall, it will boot up fine, but next time i restart my computer it starts all over.

Dec 11, 2007I decided to "reinstall" Windows XP on my laptop. I stuck the reinstall disk into the computer and let it go. After about 1 hour of "reinstalling", the computer restarted, after that, the window was only one half the size and I couldn't change the monitor resolution size. (but, it showed the old desktop information so I knew right away that I hadn't actually reinstalled to the original state, but just reinstalled over the current desktop).
I restarted the computer to see if the window screen would enlarge to the full size. It did return to the full screen size, but Now, it freezes at the part of startup where the screen says "Windows is starting up". I left it on for 20 minutes and it was still frozen. SHould I insert the Windows XP disk again, to start over or what? Or click reboot after hitting the F2 button??

The computer usually freezes after showing my wallpaper of desktop items. Sep 1, 2009The past few days I've been having issues with my desktop where when I turn it on, it runs through BIOS, and then begins to boot windows xp, but after maybe 10-15 seconds of loading windows xp, the loading bar beneath the Windows XP logo (it has three little blue boxes that move from left to right) will just stop moving. If I reset the computer it then asks to go into normal booting, or safe mode, safe mode booting always works but even when I system restore it doesnt seem to work. Out of maybe 50 times where the loading bar has crashed, its only properly loaded about two or three times.

Nov 12, 2006recently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz.But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.
