A while ago my pc started randomly freezing when i booted up, usually have to reboot three or four times before it works properly, i guess i must have a virus or something but no scans i run pick up anything obvious. Also when i try to shutdown, the screen freezes on the "Windows is preparing to shut down" screen.

The XP in C2D acts strange from today morning It freezes on shutdown ... All the every thing was fine ...I am sure there was no Virus (Using NOD32 Smart Security Suite) After many attempts to fix it. I lost my patience and decided to format C: drive and do a clean install ... I 've gone that way ...Now the fresh Installed xp also freezes on shutdown How's about this problem? Isit releated to hardware or software? Tried to fix by leaving the DVD drive empty & with a CD, Both didn't worked
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy laptop freezes 9/10 when i choose shutdown and i have to force it by holding down the power button sometimes (4/10) it freezes when you leave it on its own for a while, usually when the screensaver kicked in it would ask for user to log on again..it was when bringing it out of screensaver it would do this - so i disabled the screensaver and now its not as often when it happens - its just if its been left for a while sometimes the screen will go black and freeze, it happened once or twice when logging off and other user goes to log on.. so t appears to be problem with the log on part of the setup

I have recently installed windows on my computer which was fine. After some use the computer freezes and goes blank, this is normally an hour or so after I have been using it. I then have to manually restart the computer and it freezes just after the BIOS information comes up but just before the XP loading screens comes up. In BIOS I change some of the settings and it works again but then the same thing happens again. Now I cant even load from the hard drive because some of the windows files are corrupted.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my Laptop which has just started locking up seconds after switching on after crashing.I was chatting on MSN and sent a message, and at the moment i hit enter the thing froze and i had no choice but to pull the plug since it wasnt responding in any way. Then when i tried to start it up again, it wouldnt. It gets to the screen where it gives you the options (eg. DEL > Setup F8 > Boot Menu etc) and a few lines of text afterwards and then just stops.I've tried going on each of the options (setup. boot menu, boot network) but it just changes to GO > Setup or whatever, then gets the same line of text below and stops. I cant get to the safe mode screen, and i cant seem to Boot from any CD's either
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems like ever since the first xp pro installation i made on this computer i have had nothing but problems. every time i turn on my computer, i see normal computer information before the windows screen, when the windows screen comes, the loading bar freezes at a certain point. It will sit at that point until i restart the computer by the button on the tower. Once it happens once, it will continue to happen until i reinstall windows using the cd. After i reinstall, it will boot up fine, but next time i restart my computer it starts all over.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI decided to "reinstall" Windows XP on my laptop. I stuck the reinstall disk into the computer and let it go. After about 1 hour of "reinstalling", the computer restarted, after that, the window was only one half the size and I couldn't change the monitor resolution size. (but, it showed the old desktop information so I knew right away that I hadn't actually reinstalled to the original state, but just reinstalled over the current desktop).
I restarted the computer to see if the window screen would enlarge to the full size. It did return to the full screen size, but Now, it freezes at the part of startup where the screen says "Windows is starting up". I left it on for 20 minutes and it was still frozen. SHould I insert the Windows XP disk again, to start over or what? Or click reboot after hitting the F2 button??
My computer is really slow and it takes hours just to get to the screen where the User names are. Also when i enter my password and try to log in. The computer usually freezes after showing my wallpaper of desktop items. This is probably because I had installed a few programs.Is there a program or something to that I can use to boot my computer faster? I'm desperate also I really need to keep all the files on my computer on my computer. I have been having problems with my cpu being overheated. The CPU fan makes alot of noise.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a dell dimension 8250 3 years old I just had a nvidia gforce 128 mb graphics card put in to replace a burned out 64 bit card,now I just noticed the next day that when I right click anywhere on the desktop screen except on a folder or program-the cursor become an hourglass and it freezes pemanantly I cant even turn the comp off to shut it down I have to use the on off button.Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe past few days I've been having issues with my desktop where when I turn it on, it runs through BIOS, and then begins to boot windows xp, but after maybe 10-15 seconds of loading windows xp, the loading bar beneath the Windows XP logo (it has three little blue boxes that move from left to right) will just stop moving. If I reset the computer it then asks to go into normal booting, or safe mode, safe mode booting always works but even when I system restore it doesnt seem to work. Out of maybe 50 times where the loading bar has crashed, its only properly loaded about two or three times.
View 3 Replies View Relatedrecently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz.But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.

A few days ago it started having this problem where the entire screen freezes up and I have to turn the computer off and restart. It freezes anywhere from 2 minutes to 4 hours into a session, but it freezes up every time. I don't know if this is related, but every time I restart, I get a message window from an application called Button Manager v1.83, that says: "No INITIO External Storage Device Found" and it has two buttons to click on, either : LED ON or LED OFF. I ran a virus scan, and an adaware scan, but it didn't help. My husband wants to throw out the computer and buy a new one, but there must be a way to fix this. Is it a virus

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I opened up the case, the northbridge heatsink clip had snapped off. I put the case on it's side and reseated the heatsink, and put a case fan over it. I reformatted and installed winXP. The computer freezes a minute or so after entering windows. Also ran ubuntu linux off a usb stick and it would freeze after 5 or so minutes. Ran memtest and no errors after 9 hours, Speedfan s.m.a.r.t says the hard drive is fine. I booted into Safemode, and ran orthos small ffts cpu test, and no errors after an hour.

However my laptop became so burdened with viruses that it can no longer be logged onto without freezing anywhere between 5 - 40 seconds so it's hard to do anything about it, also it's a little embarrasing to ask for help as most of the viruses were caused by... How shall I put this, websites of ir-reputable nature! This happened about a year ago and just before this had happened I had uninstalled World of Warcraft and quit. But now I have come to start again on my Brother's laptop identical to my own which he no longer uses but there's a problem being that there's not enough memory I have literally trawled forums and websites to clear as much off as I can, I have removed basically every programme, deleted my Brother's account, ran every disc cleaner under the sun and defragmented the hard drive. This has given me a measley 3 gigs so I'm now sittig on 7 gigs of memory.

The PC was purchased around August last year, and around November it started freezing up 3 to 4 times a day. When it does so, the power button has to be held down to restart, and the HDD light is light constantly. I intially tried a lot of different things, such as virus scans, hijack this, Anti Spyware etc etc. All of which found nothing.I have now ran some HDD tests and RAM tests which both showed nothing. I dont really want to rebuild again, as I think the same thing will happen again.

I recently upgraded OS on Dell Dimension XPS t600 to Windows Xp SP2. Witgh SP2, it freezes every 6 seconds for about a second and then releases. It is consistent as if it is polling for something. Even the hard drive crunching stops for that second. I have tried installling all MS updates but it did not help.

View 8 Replies View Relatedmy computer at home is constantly freezing every single time I start the computer up. It gets to the screen where you can click on a user to login but then it freezes and to restart I need to hold down the power button for 3-5 seconds. I looked through all of my discs and all I have is my Camera Setup, Windows 95, Printer Setup, Acer Recovery Discs (5 of them) and an Acer eMode Management disc. The only thing I have tried so far is to use the Acer Recovery discs but the problem still persists. I have no Windows XP disc and I can't remember getting one when I bought the computer but I might have it somewhere. I'm not sure if it came with the computer because the Acer Recovery discs basically re-installed Windows itself.
It all started when I was on the computer and a storm hit us and there was a power outage while I was on the computer. Since then it just freezes at the login screen. Ask questions and give any suggestions you can give, it is all appreciated as I am desperate to get this fixed! I have no important files on the computer so a reset of the whole computer is fine to do but what discs do I need and how do I do it. I am unsure if it is a virus related problem or a hardware related issue.
When I start XP it gets to the Black page that shows Windows XP and the small bar beneath it that gives the appearance of loading. Once it gets here it just stops however, the bar keeps going. I am able to start in safe mode. I have switched video cards and disabled my USB ports. I don't know what else to do.

It goes through the format, setting up partitions, and then when it gets to copying files, it goes to 8% and locks up. I have tested the motherboard, the memory and the HD finding no errors. View 8 Replies View RelatedJust got back from holiday with my dell inspiron 1501 left in hibernation, turn on took 5-7 minutes to boot till I entered my password, its usually long but this was longer all was fine until I got fed up of computer been slow and explorer.exe not responding (happens often) so I forced shutdown. When I tried rebooting all was fine up until the logon where I could type my password in but then in would freeze and many reboots in safe mode etc. safe mode would freeze instantly btw. I have just managed to get onto my wallpaper 55 mins after entering password and pressing enter but nothing up on screen. Managed to get task manager up as well 27 processes running CPU 0%, doesn�t look anything fishy in the process list the only one that caught my attention was BCMWLTRY.EXE 4996k but that looks like a windows live add-on, and smss.exe not sure about that one.
