I bought the game Lord Of the Rings:Return of the King yesterday, I installed it and when I start the game I can hear the music and everything perfectly but the screen is completely blank! Even the game starts with the screen blank! But I can hear the audio perfectly.I have all the latest drivers and DirectX versions, my graphics card is Nvidia GeForce2
View 2 RepliesFor some reason, sometimes when I start my computer, after having put it in hibernation, the screen is blank. This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to run a destructive factory recovery on my desktop HP Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, which i have done in the past without a problem. For reasons unknown this time the screen was completely blank when it finished. It is as if im looking at a turned off monitor, no signs of any activity what so ever, just a black blank screen. I do not have any type of recovery disc to this computer at this time , though if i get it back up and running that will be the first thing i do. I really dont know what other information I can give about it. The computer is on , the monitor is on but it looks as if it is off.

My PC suddenly froze while I was using it so I turned it off for a couple of minutes. THen when I turned it back on, it started making beeping noises. There was also no start up screen, the monitor is just blank.
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. I need help in a serious way. all advice and solutions are requested.

I've upgraded the firmware on the drives, checked the connections etc but still nothing. Weirdly audio cd's seem to show and work in Itunes so I'm guessing it might be to with associations right or have i disabled a service by mistake?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.
View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter updating my version of iTunes this afternoon I was of course prompted to restart my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6000), which I did. However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer was running alright, no viruses or anything. Then suddenly, we turn it on one day and its stuck at the hp screen. Not booting, just with the hp logo. I restart it, and after 2 tries, and some beeps, it boots. Gettin all scared and worked up, I run a spyware scan and a virus scan. I found a few trogans and deleted them.
To test it, I turned it off and restarted again. Didnt have any problems. After a few hours it began to beep and got extremely slow. I turned it off. Ever since then, all I've been getting is a blank screen. Its as if its not getting power. The mouse and keyboard dont light up and the screen is blank.
If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I've searched the forum but the problems similiar to this that i've found involve the pc actually doing something before the blank screen comes up.
I have tried doing this myself using some of the other examples on this site but they are just dissimilar enough that I am obviously missing somehting. I do all the steps but then the about:blank keeps coming back as my default home page and I also get some porno favorites every time too

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new Gateway computer and have had several problems with it. As of a couple of days ago, I no longer have sound on my computer. None of my games have sound and I can no longer listen to the online radio stations. However, today when I was on a website, music did come out of the speaker (something the creator of the site built into his homepage). Gateway suggested I update my drivers, but none of them needed to be updated (when I attempted to update it told me I had the newest version). What can I do to see where the problem is coming from?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PC is a Dell Dimension 4600, using Windows XP Home Edition. I had problems getting online, Comcast Tech came out to help, no help from them, found out myself that somewhere I had lost a driver, reinstalled, back on line, but with problems. I cannot seem to get the screen resolutions to look like I want it to. The following is what I have and it looks great, but does not fill screen and letters so small. DISPLAY PROPERTIES: Themes-Windows Classic Modified. APPEARANCE: Windows classic Style. COLOR SCHEME: Same as above.
FONT: Normal. When I click on Screen Resolution Tab it shows the following: 1280 by 1024 Pixels, Color Highest 32 bit. As I stated above, it really is so clear, (letters, etc), but does not fill screen. Also, when Tech was here he installed WindowsXP again, so now I have two of the same and the fact that they take up so much space, I had bought "The Print Shop" before all this happened and now I cannot not install.
I am having a weird problem with my windows xp laptop,i don't know what could be causing it so i don't know how to fix it. Ok the problem is constant from start up to shutdown and has been occurring now for about 2 weeks.At first i thought it was a virus so i cleaned my computer but it is still occurring.The problem is this, every now and then my screen will go completely white, its just a display thing cause it happened when i was working while listening to music. it can last anywhere to just 1 sec to 5 minutes. Its constant all the way through but it gets worse if i am watching a dvd or playing a game. What is this problem and how can i fix it? i tried system restore but that didn't work.i think it may be the software i installed at the time but i can't find it in the add or remove programs list to uninstall it.

Before, when i pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete, it gave me a completely new screen, where I would have choices like log off, change password, etc. However, now i just get the task manager when i press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. View 5 Replies View RelatedThere are a few things that contributed to the leadup to me losing my Device Manager and sound. First, about 3 weeks ago, I bought 2 sticks of Mushkin EM3200 DDR RAM (two 1GB sticks; 2GB total). Installed it, and it disagreed with my board in a big way (apparently it was the voltages or timings). I managed to get as far as "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." before I got one of two error messages: "NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." or "Windows failed to load because the System32 folder is corrupt or missing." In each case, I popped in my Windows XP disc and fixed the boot record from the recovery console (I did not restore the MBR), and it booted right in.
At the time, Windows booted up just fine, but lately I've been having some funky problems. I've got one SATA drive (partitioned into two) which is my boot drive and one IDE drive that I just use for storage. Sometimes, with my IDE drive plugged in on boot, I can't get Windows to load by any means. Sometimes it boots just fine. When it boots fine, and I go into "My Computer" (either via the Start Menu or the icon on the desktop) it takes about 20-30 seconds to actually display anything (I get either the flashlight-over-folder animation or it just doesn't load). With my IDE drive unplugged, I get no such issues.
As well, the first couple of times I restored the boot record, I had no issues with sound at all. Then suddenly Windows started saying I had no sound device (my volume icon had disappeared, and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu in the Control Panel showed no output/playback device) although I clearly do have one. The weird thing is, I still got sound. Then I updated my sound card drivers (it's onboard sound; Realtek AC'97, pretty standard fare) and lost sound completely. All I get now is motherboard/PC speaker beeps. So I attempted to check the Device Manager to see if maybe there was just a device conflict. I say attempted because my Device Manager was completely blank. And I mean completely. All it showed was the title bar, menu buttons, and a white page. Nothing else. Zip.Just ran out to work and got an Audigy for $30 thinking it may just have been my onboard sound kicking the bucket. Installed it, booted up and tried to install the drivers. The driver installation program detected no Audigy in my machine (and I thought it wouldn't because Windows didn't pop up with the little "Found New Hardware Wizard" when I booted).
I'm having two problems with my computer. I'm getting the windows installer screen always coming up at startup and staying on the monitor until I press cntl + alt + delete and then i'm getting that window in the background or bottom of the screen toolbar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've only had this problem for a while, i have windows xp and this hasen't happened to be before until yesterday. whenever i start up one of my big games(ie a more newer more demanding games) the screen pops up and my computer resets, i dont know what i could of don't to cause this nor what exactly whats going on the screen has a error that says IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL at first i thought my graphics drivers were buggered. so i went off and downloaded newer ones and put them on, but it didn't seem to do much.

It also does the EXACT same thing every once in awhile for java applets or large flash animations.It doesnt give any file name on the blue screen or any description of what is causing this. I dont know if there is some information you can get from those numbers.

Sometimes when i play a game or wake the computer up from sleep mode, the computer screen goes to come back on and instead, the screen goes black, with monitor power light flickering and a loud piercing sound through my speakers. One of the times it happened, the ATI VPU Recovery came up and asked me to submit the crash report through email, but that only came up once, the other times, there has been no warning, no recovery, no errors, just blank.

When i play the online game Shattered Galaxy I recieve the blue screen which the computer either freezes or restarts. Also fire fox just recieved a random error when i was posting this but that is another story. I have updated the video drivers. I took a picture of the blue screen so i will post exactlty what it said hoping that it will help.

I have turned off Auto Insert Notification on my DVD drive, but this did not fix the problem.However, if I insert a music CD into the DVD drive, everything goes along just fine without any Blue Screen. If I start up my computer with a game CD or DVD already in the drive, I do not get a blue screen when I open up the game or DVD from the drive within My Computer. I only get the Blue Screen of Death after I open the DVD drive,insert the game CD or DVD, and the drive closes. The STOP error code in the Blue Screen of Death only gives me the line error.
