I have tried doing this myself using some of the other examples on this site but they are just dissimilar enough that I am obviously missing somehting. I do all the steps but then the about:blank keeps coming back as my default home page and I also get some porno favorites every time too

I am using a computer with Win98se on it, but have been given one with XP Home loaded on it,which is a new "learning curve" for me. I like Excite as my home page,but am having trouble loading it on the XP machine. I have checked these forums and Googled it, but can't seem to find an answer to my particular problem. When I attempt to load Excite,all I get is a blank page with a left and right arrow and pause button in the middle left of the page. The address is correct on the address line.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to cleanup a machine running Windows 2000 (not sure what release).I've run AntiVir, Spybot, Adaware, and CWShredder, but am still experiencig problems. For example, I can't change the default home URL from 'about:blank'. AntiVir found many archieves (probably more than 30) with 'infected file' that couldn't be deleted. Most of them appeared to be .dat files, but one was a .cab file (polmx2), which I suspect is part of the problem. I'm also guessing there may be hidden files becuase I couldn't 'find' them in Windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA curious problem I'm having. All dvd's, cd's, game cd's are showing as blank in explorer. I've upgraded the firmware on the drives, checked the connections etc but still nothing. Weirdly audio cd's seem to show and work in Itunes so I'm guessing it might be to with associations right or have i disabled a service by mistake?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter updating my version of iTunes this afternoon I was of course prompted to restart my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6000), which I did. However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, sometimes when I start my computer, after having put it in hibernation, the screen is blank. This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank.In the shortcut file's properties, and then gives me the file's size, location,etc.but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.

Now, no matter how many times I drop it in the recycle bin, and then empty the bin, or right click and delete it, or delete it from windows explorer. View 10 Replies View RelatedMy computer had a file that I wanted to remove but instead got this message:Cannot delete file: Access is denied.The file is in use by another program or user.I was told to install unlocker to remove the file. I right-clicked unlocker on that file and it said there is nothing to be unlocked so I deleted the file through the unlocker options. I checked the recycling bin to see if it ended up there but that file was not in the recycling bin. I thought nothing of it and assumed it's gone for good but after I restarted the computer it came back. I also scanned and removed all the bugs from my computer but still no use. It keeps coming back. Although the file keeps coming back it contains nothing and takes up 0 space.

So now when i click on uninstall on it in the 'add/remove programs' window, it does nothing but stay there. This must be because its still in the registry. The program is called 'Micrografx'.

Hooked it up to my HP 722 printer, set it up, made it the default printer. When I go to print, a page comes out blank. I tried Word, Notepad, Wordpad, and still nothing. It does however print from the internet with no problem.

The fax preview shows the page I scanned plus a blank page. It also faxes out the extra blank page. Epson tech said it was XP, so I downloaded a trial version of another fax software. This time the fax preview showed and faxed just one page as it should.
