Favourites - Make Available Offline / Getting A Blank Page?
Apr 10, 2007
I'm trying to save certain guitar sites to my Favourites and I'd like to be able to view them with conecting to the internet. I'm guessing this should be done with the "Make Available Offline" bit but evertime I try to do it I still get a blank page.
I often right click in IE and select Create Shortcut. It puts a shortcut and my desktop to that page. This mysteriously stopped working. The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank. In the shortcut file's properties, and then gives me the file's size, location, etc.but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.
My Favourites now contain hundreds of entries because it is somehow automatically adding them without me specifically doing so. I presume there is a way of stopping this. Does anybody know how?
I am using a computer with Win98se on it, but have been given one with XP Home loaded on it,which is a new "learning curve" for me. I like Excite as my home page, but am having trouble loading it on the XP machine. I have checked these forums and Googled it, but can't seem to find an answer to my particular problem. When I attempt to load Excite, all I get is a blank page with a left and right arrow and pause button in the middle left of the page. The address is correct on the address line.
Every time I switch on my machine and try to connect to the internet, I get a dialogue box: Web page is unavailable while offline. To view this page, click connect. When I click connect, I can view the page and don't get the error message again until I switch off the machine. Why does this happen?
I just starting using another computer and found out that it does not have a parallel port for my printer. So I purchased a usb - parallel cable. Hooked it up to my HP 722 printer, set it up, made it the default printer. When I go to print, a page comes out blank. I tried Word, Notepad, Wordpad, and still nothing. It does however print from the internet with no problem.
i've ran spybot adware and i am still getting advertisements that do not come up on certain websites ie: this page cannot be displayed or a blank spot with an "x" through it, and there should be some sort of picture in that spot.
I have an Epson RX500 all-in-one. When I use the "copy to fax" in the Epson Smart Panel, it sends the scan to XP's fax software. The fax preview shows the page I scanned plus a blank page. It also faxes out the extra blank page. Epson tech said it was XP, so I downloaded a trial version of another fax software. This time the fax preview showed and faxed just one page as it should.
When i open Firefox 3.0.12 my default browser, even though i`ve got "always show my home page when Firefox starts", set in tools/options/main, too frequently i get a blank page, no home page, and the area just above google is also blank.(see attachment).
When i click on Firefox, my default browser, the home page doesn`t show, i just get a blank page, but if i click Firefox again the home page comes up. (attachment). This happens after i have been viewing websites. .
System Restore opening with a blank page. I tried one of the links but none of these worked (file not found):regsvr32 jscript.dllregsvr32 vbscript.dllregsvr32 /i mshtml.dll (For Internet Explorer 6 only)This is driving me up the wall.
When boot up the computer it opens up to a black page with white writing starting out with. The System is DELL Inspiron 6000 XP Laptop. It goes on for a few more paragraphs. You have options to start XP SAFE MODE, LAST KNOWN CONFIGERATION AND MORE. When ever you try to go into safe mode or any other option it just goes right back to the black page with white writing. The only thing different is, updated JAVA and that is when the problem started. He also mention a blue screen but I havent seen it yet. I know there is a conflict but I am unable to more forward at all to fix it.
When I click on Yahoo Mail it just goes to a blank page and acts like it is going back and forth through 2 pages. It never gets me to a sign in screen. I go to another computer and try it and it works fine. You can hear clicking like it is going through pages back and forth.
I've messed up something to do with Internet Explorer. First of all, when I open IE all I get is a blank page. No error message or anything. I try to go to a site and the address bar stays at "http:///". I tried repairing my Windows 2000 installation and it didn't help at all. Now it's reverted back to IE5 and Outlook Express 5. So I tried to reinstall IE6 by downloading the installation file and running it. I get the error message:Error creating process <COCUME~1WILLIA~LOCALS~1TempIXP000.TMPie6wzd.exe/S"Cocuments and SettingsWilliam OverbyDesktopIE6.0 FullIE6SETUP.EXE">. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.
I have tried doing this myself using some of the other examples on this site but they are just dissimilar enough that I am obviously missing somehting. I do all the steps but then the about:blank keeps coming back as my default home page and I also get some porno favorites every time too
System Restore window is completely blank.Windows Update page displays the following message even though the ActiveX control is already installed. Also, the Information bar does not appear, thus you're unable to re-install the Windows Update ActiveX control.install the ActiveX control required to view the website Help and Support pages are incomplete.System Information utility (MSINFO32) displays a blank window.
This might sound like a strange request but, I am trying to use WSUS Offline updates and I need to have a copy of service pack 1. For offline to work you need at least SP1. I know I will come across someone who does not have XP with service pack 1 on their OS disk or their recover disk. I own a copy that does not have SP 1. If I do I know there will be others who do not have it either.
I have been having an issue with Windows XP's Help & Support ever since I installed Service Pack 2; under the "Did you know?" section it's supposed to connect to the Internet and download new links, right? Well, it doesn't do that anymore.I did some Googling but failed to find anything helpful so far.I've been using the built-in personal firewall ever since installing SP2, which I'm guessing *may* have something to do with it.
I added offline files under a user's account some reason some of the offline files have access 'other R/W'. Some have 'user R/W', and some have both.Only those offline files that have access 'user R/W' and both 'user R/W' and 'other RW' work. When I try to make it Not offline available and then again offline available, it's still the same.So the user get's an 'access denied' or 'file location not found' error when he tries to open files that have 'other R/W'.
I got hijacked the other night and ran a program to remove the bad programs. They have all been removed from the system according to the program but I am still having trouble opening files and folders including My Computer and Control Panel. I think this may be because, I've heard, hijacking software alters certain things on the computer so that you can't simply access the control panel and undo all of the trouble it has caused. The error message that I recieve every time I try to open files, folders, etc. reads:
"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed. You will have to restart the program. An error log is being created." The computer will occassionally freeze up after I click ok.
every time i connect to the net with my modem and start outlook express i get this annoying prompt "you are currently working offline, would you like to go online now" when im connected to the net.if anyone knows how to stop this every time i start outlook express 6.
Just got back from lunch to find a customer returned an Averatec notebook because his/her(?) wireless service would simply knock them offline in about five minutes every time they were online. Not familiar with wireless myself; control panel says the adapter is an 802.11g Mini PCI Wireless Network A.
Does anyone have a link from Microsoft's Website that you can download the XP Service Pack 3 for an offline installation? I am helping someone with a fresh install of XP and they have dial up, so when they go to the Microsoft Update page, it times out (gives an error).
I have several unwanted items in my favourites list, both URLs and folders with URLs in them. I cannot right click on them (to delete) and they do not appear in the 'organize favourites' box. Just the favourites that I have added are there.

I recently switched servers, with the new server having a different name than the old. I deleted all my old offline files and re-synched with the new server, but the old server name keeps reappearing in the Synchronization pane during Offline Files synchronization. How can I delete all references to the old server?
