My Favourites now contain hundreds of entries because it is somehow automatically adding them without me specifically doing so. I presume there is a way of stopping this. Does anybody know how?
I've been using Windows XP Professional for several years and am quite happy with it. My roommate has a desktop that she bought some years ago and it came with Windows XP Starter Edition installed. Lately I've been trying to help her upgrade from her XP SE to XP Pro but before doing this I have some questions. Is Windows XP SE at all upgradable to XP Pro? The reason I ask this is because:1.1 I accessed "How to install or upgrade to Windows XP" on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941, but it does not mention Windows XP Starter Edition as one of the options of OS to be upgraded (only mentions Win98, Windows ME and Windows 2000 Pro 1.2 I also accessed http://www.comztek.com/Admin/ProdMan...1.asp?name=228 and it says "You may not upgrade to Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Starter Edition,. as this goes against Microsoft's End User License Agreement (EULA) 2. In case Windows XP SE can in fact be upgraded to XP Pro, I have 2 questions:2.1 To start the installation should I simply boot the desktop normally and then insert the Win XP CD on the CD-ROM unit and choose the option "upgrade"?2.2 Will files in the desktop and installed programs be preserved? Or will my roommate need to install all the program she uses again? What about local files of Outlook Express and the MSN Messenger emoticons? Will these be lost?
The following link says that:Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 is not a time-limited or Please note: Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 is not a time-limited or Learn about the key features in Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0.http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html But in my book it is I had it for 15 days, then it wants me to register which it will not allow me to do without some kind of code number which I don't have unless I purchase it.The only way to get the registration window to close is to reboot my computer?
I uploaded my pictures. They are no longer on my camera, but I can see them on my computer screen as thumbnails. They are not in the location given. The screen that the thumbnails are on has the option of 1. Get photos,2. Save, with file location listed. BUT it wont allow me to save. At the bottom the only two options are Get photos and Cancel. How can I save my pictures?
I just ordered custom parts for a PC I'm building. They'll be here next week. The basic configuration is: Asus Striker II Extreme Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.0 Ghz) 2 x 2GB Corsair XMS 1066 BFG GeForce 9800 GT (1GB) Western Digital Caviar 1TB (SATA) I'm gonna using this PC for gaming and video/audio editing primarily + programming/coding/development secondarily. My main concern is should I install Windows XP vs Windows Vista? 32-bit vs 64-bit? Why?
I'm posting this from an Opera Browser running on an XP preinstalled environment burned on a bootable CD that I built and burned in about twenty-five minutes. ( I could have used Firefox or Internet Explorer; they're installed as well).
I have Ultimate Boot CD in a zip on my desktop.I want to make a bootable cd of it . Can I unzip it to a cd or do I have to save it to my hard drive first?
I just bought a hard drive to replace the small hard drive in my computer. I want to clone the old hard drive onto the new one. I found some very good directions on how to do this on the Internet and it says I need ultimate boot disk on a CD. I downloaded the ultimate boot disk to my computer and put the file on a CD. This is where I think I run into trouble. When I double-click on the file to expand it, it wants to install itself on the computer. Is that what it is supposed to do? I was expecting it to expand itself on the CD. I guess what I am asking is if it should expand on this CD, or do I have to install it on one of the hard drives when I am doing the cloning process? I hope somebody on here understands what I am trying to explain.
I have Windows XP SP2. Somehow Ultimate defender has claimed my system.I have scanned it housecall and stinger and regular micro trend full scan. They have not removed it. I then used combofix, it seemed to help, but I don't think it's all the way off. I see explorer.exe goes to 99% in the tak manager. When I bring up a ie browser, it tries to go to the ultimate defender page. I looked in the registry, I don't see any "ultimate" settings. Here is a hijackthis report after the combofix run.
This post is to address certain errors that can be encountered in using UBCD4Win, building the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. If you have a Dell OEM XP SP2 CD, you may get the following errors during the build of the UBCD4WINBuilder.
I am attempting a downgrade on my Dell XPS M1530. It has Vista Ultimate. I have unallocated hard drive space for the XP partition. When I put in my XP disc, it loads and states that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disks are powered on and properly connected etc. etc." How come this is happening? I know people have downgraded this specific laptop before, as it is all over the internet but I can't find anyone else getting this error
I installed a codec that was a virus disguised in windows media player. As soon as i installed it i got the BSOD. i got BSOD from normal boot, safe mode, trying to use the windows cd(to do a recovery but crashes before first screen of options). If i use a linux based boot disk 2/3 kernal paniced. The one that didnt panic, Avira anti-virus, scans finds the virus but cannot remove it. It is definitely not a hardware problem and i have tried all of the boot cds with ALL of my hdds unplugged and it does the same.
I just bought this discounted student version of microsoft office, however, when I downloaded the program it does not work. I click on microsoft word or whichever program and it will not open.
I have been using Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my HDX 9001 tx notebook since over an year, and recently got fed up and downgraded it to XP.Strangely, the screen has become very dull. I remember XP had POWER SETTINGS, and the screen used to be dull if I used VISTA on "Save power" mode. But I am not sure why XP is running on this mode. I have checked all around, including POWER SETTINGS (which are different in XP and vista) but cannot find a solution.Yes I have downloaded and installed the graphic card drivers.
I have run Spyware Doctor and don't appear to be getting the Ultimate Cleaner messages or the Biohazard "red screen", but I continue to get the Ultimate Defender and Trojan.w32.looksky pop-ups. If I end the "explorer" process, it all quits but I looks my task bar.
I have several unwanted items in my favourites list, both URLs and folders with URLs in them. I cannot right click on them (to delete) and they do not appear in the 'organize favourites' box. Just the favourites that I have added are there.
just bought my mum a new computer (win XP) & am trying to set it up for her. When I save things (such as google) to favourites, i get told it has been saved but when i go to the start menu there is no favoutites! how can i get this in the sart list?
I'm trying to save certain guitar sites to my Favourites and I'd like to be able to view them with conecting to the internet. I'm guessing this should be done with the "Make Available Offline" bit but evertime I try to do it I still get a blank page.
After I use twitter I cant open a folder in my favourites to go to anbother site, I can click on a favourite not in a folder but it wont open a favourite folder.I have to close down the window and open a new one then everthing works fine.It only happens after going on Twitter
I have a Desktop which has Windows XP installed. I have some Favourites music DVD`s saved in Real Players Favourites Section, but I am having great difficulty in burning them on to a CD. I have been using Nero to burn other things in the past, but I can not find 'Real Player Favourites' using Nero`s 'Add' Section.
When I use the Import and Export Menu in I. E. and point to the CD Drive where I have inserted the CD containing Favourites, Windows XP asks me to contact the Administrator. Why can't Windows XP be intelligent enough to verify that I myself am the Administrator and sole User of the Computer, as can be seen from the Users in Control Panel?

I have just noticed a problem with saving web sites. When I click on the favourites icon along the top bar and then add > new folder I am unable to see the selected folder. When I click on the word favourite - also along the top, which also produces a list, the folder is there! How do I get folders I create to show up along the left hand side of the screen (ie when the favourite icon is clicked.
When i'm on a web page and i click the "favourites" (yellow star button) in WinXP (on the toolbar above the web page) i see all my favourite websites, but the little yellow icon does not appear beside them, so i'm unsure whether they are direct links to the web pages or whether they are folders containing the links !! Oddly enough, when i plug in my USB HD, the little yellow folder icons re-appear What can i do to get the folders icons back (without having to keep my USB HD switched on) ?
