just bought my mum a new computer (win XP) & am trying to set it up for her. When I save things (such as google) to favourites, i get told it has been saved but when i go to the start menu there is no favoutites! how can i get this in the sart list?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i'm on a web page and i click the "favourites" (yellow star button) in WinXP (on the toolbar above the web page) i see all my favourite websites, but the little yellow icon does not appear beside them, so i'm unsure whether they are direct links to the web pages or whether they are folders containing the links !! Oddly enough, when i plug in my USB HD, the little yellow folder icons re-appear What can i do to get the folders icons back (without having to keep my USB HD switched on) ?

Now I'd like to do that again, but I can't figure out to make it work in Windows Explorer (for XP, but I also have Vista on my notebook).Do I have to run a DOS window. Is the syntax the same? (Can I remember it?) Are there any shareware or freeware program managers that provide this function?
My Favourites now contain hundreds of entries because it is somehow automatically adding them without me specifically doing so. I presume there is a way of stopping this. Does anybody know how?

You could select my favourites, select a web site from the sub menu, and internet explorer would open at that page.My PC at home does not have the favourites item, so I have to open explorer first, and select the favourites that way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI added some new software to my Pc (Win XP system) and now I notice that when I use the Start - All Programs - and view my list of programs I have 3 x Wide Columns but I can't se the 3rd column fully as the first 2 are really wide pushing the 3rd nearly off the screen.
How to narrow this view list.I tried to 'drag' the walls of the colunm but that option is not available.
I would like to put my icons back in the area that is reached via Start/All Programs/ and then associated

I want to remove the icons from my desktop.
I know I can delete those, but how do I get the icons back to the Programs

For example, once I drag the Word icon from Start/All Programs/Microsoft

onto my desktop, the Word icon is gone from the All Programs list. How do I

When I open the START menu/ All Programs, the main list with all the program folders is there but the final files to click are blank, I only get a box,raised from what ever background is present at the time.
At this time the hidden icons on the taskbar open and close extremely slowly
when operated.
I found a temporary fix by deleting anything, so we make a new folder and immediately delete it. This corrects both problems instantly until the next reboot but needs to be done separately for each user that logs on.
I used to have a way on Win 98 to uncheck things that I didn't want to have on my computer when it boots up. I now have Win XP and can't figure out how to get to the list where I can uncheck things. I activated the Windows Messenger and I'd like to stop having constantly in my face. I'm sorry I activated it in the first place. I don't want to completely remove it, but would like it to stop working for now. Can someone give me specific steps to get to the "start up" list?

The situation is I've got a computer running XP, but the hard drive is a little too small. I had a larger hard drive in my 98 machine and I've slaved that drive and installed it in this computer. I've moved everything I need to the C drive temporarily and I want to reformat the D drive to wipe out everything on it. Problem is, I know how to do it from a DOS prompt but XP doesn't seem to have one. How do I format this drive (mainly want to get rid of the operating system)?

Outlook Express folder list and Contacts list are not showing. I've walked her through the process of clicking on View at the top of the Outlook Express Interface and setting the Layout items so that her Contacts and Folder list should be on the screen, but they are not. I've tried everything I can think of to rectify the situation and I've run out of options. The way it is without her folders list she cannot access her deleted folder and her sent folder and cannot delete anything from those folders. Is there anything else I can do to bring up those her contacts list and her folders list?
