All Program And Quot / List Vanished From Start Menu
Sep 6, 2008
I recently deleted a Trojan virus from my computer, and thought I was all smart for being able to do so, but to my dismay, I opened my Start Menu to find that The "All Programs" button had somehow been removed from the start menu.Any ideas on how to get it back would be greatly appreciated. My English teacher doesn't seem like the type I could use the "My computer broke " excuse on.
as i turned on my laptop today i realized that there is no start menu. All my desktop icons are there, though they take longer than normal to load and taskmanager works fine and i have all my navigation menus as well. I am also unable to run msconfig, even in Command Prompt. When i type in msconfig, i get the following message.msconfig is not a recognized command. Another problem that i have been having is that if i click on a window, and taskmanager was infront of it, taskmanager does not move behind my active window. I am running windows XP, on a Presario V2000 with a 60 gig hd, and a 512. i have tried everything to get it to come back, i have booted in safe mode and tried that way, i have also used StartUp Mechanic to disable everything that i do not recognize in hopes that something is blocking the start menu from loading. I am okay with a computer, but the simpler the instructions the better.
I've seen similar recent threads opened detailing similar problems you've looked into. My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. Your help would be very gratefully received.
none of my programs willl work if i click on them it will say error not found or ask me to choose a program to run from a list i cant do anything and would really like some help i even cant download anything becuase it will ask me to choose the program from a list too
I am using Windows XP/SP2 a newish computer and some things changed from how it used to be.From the *Start* Button, there is the further button *Programs*. This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.
I can't access the "Run" command from the start menu. When I click on it windows brings up a message box saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" Even if I click yes, the shortcut doesn't do anything. I can still access the run command by using the windows button + r on the keyboard. This affects the "Search" and "Help & Support" commands too.
Or it's not where it's suppose to be.I am trying access "my computer" But the icon is not in the "Start" menu anymore. Somebody else was using my computer and he problebly changed the settings. How do I go back to the previous settings?
When i double click on a desktop shortcut i find that the icon goes to the start up menu list( to the left of all programs) as well each time. Is there some way to stop this happening? I don`t really need the same one in two places.
When Opera 6.02 is installed on a fresh copy of WinNT 5.1 (Home or Professional), there is a chance that you are unable to select it to act as the "default browser" icon on the Start Menu.To change the "default browser" icon, you would normally go to the Start Menu properties, select Customize, and then select your browser of choice from the drop-down menu. However, a fresh install of Opera 6.02 may not show up here.
I understand how to make Office applications always show full menus instead of collapse to only show the most recently used, but I want to do that same thing in my Start button. I have Windows XP Professional, but I have it configured in Start Menu Properties to use the Classic Start Menu. So when I click Start, then hover over Programs, it pops out the side menu, and that side menu always only shows the two or three folders or solo icons I've used recently. That is sooo annoying.
well, this problem started a little while ago, Ive got a 2.93ghz P4, and 1GB memory, so i know my computer is (plenty) fast enough.when i click on the button in the start menu "Turn Off Computer", my PC shows the hourglass, and i cant click on anything, this will go on for about a minute or 2, once it took 5 minutes. then the small box with shutdown options comes up finally, and then after the light blue screen gets to "Shutting Down...". it takes maybe a bit longer than expected but im not to sure about that.
I can't access the "Run" command from the start menu. When I click on it windows bring up a message box saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" Even if I click yes, the shortcut doesn't do anything. I can still access the run command by hitting the windows button + r. But it is annoying not having that function when needed... No virii or spyware involved. I believe it's a registry issue, but I've no idea were to correct the issue and I can't find any info on the net[which is a first].
On my PC at work running XP Pro, when you click on the start button, after "All Programs", the next 6 items were My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Favourites, My Computer & My Network Places. You could select my favourites, select a web site from the sub menu, and internet explorer would open at that page.My PC at home does not have the favourites item, so I have to open explorer first, and select the favourites that way.
Since installing some minor items this week, all of the items previously found under "All Programs" within the Start menu have disappeared. What happened, how do I fix it, and how do I start programs that used to be there but also have no desktop icon?
The "documents" option (which displays recent documents) is missing from my start menu. I have tried EVERYTHING! Does anybody have any idea how to get it back. There is no obvious, intuitive way to do this.
I added another 150G hard drive last year to my computer...it worked just fine for almost a year and then when I was defragmenting I got a message saying a file was corrupted and since then that drive has vanished from my computer It was labeled G and I had it almost filled and now no matter what I try computer doesn't acknowledge the drive anywhere I look...if I run the defragment program it doesn't even show the G drive and in Windows Explorer nothing shows for that drive either
I have 2 machines behind a Netgear router. The XP Home one can ask for remote assistance. The XP Pro one cannot. When the invite a friend to offer remote assistance link is clicked, the message "A program could not start. Please try again" appears. It comes up with the exclamation sound and the message box claims to be from Internet Explorer.I found a file called constants.js on the machine that had that message text in it...in two places. One of them is NO CHANNEL,and the other is NO Recession I edited the constants.js file and it changed the "A program could not start. Please try again" message so that I could tell that the NO CHANNEL message is being sent to me.
I used to be able to right click on a picture and rotate (either left or right) and save the picture to desktop. Now, I can't do any of that- it has cut that out of the menu. What do I do?
How can I get my XP theme and Classic theme options to return to the pull-down menu in the themes tab of the display properties window.I don't know what I did but my pc went all funny and they just vanished in a blink of an eye. Could someone experienced in this type of problem please help me find where they are and help me return them as an option.
The 'RUN' short cut has dissappeared from the 'START' pop-up menu. This Gateway laptop is using W2000-Pro. This has never happened before. I'd like to get the 'RUN' icon/shortcut back, because it's convenient to use.
my audio/volume system tray icon has vanished and device manager says that all sound devices/drivers are working properly and are up to date, BUT - Sounds and Audio Devices Properties says I have no audio device installed. If I try to open volume controls
In Windows XP, the Windows Explorer application is found under "start/programs/accessories". I clicked on the application listing there and dragged it on to my desktop. There is now an icon on the desktop for it, but it has disappeared from the apps listings in "start/programs/accessories". How can I restore the program listing there?
Seems like every time I open some application it puts a link on the start menu, I realize I can delete this by right clicking it and choosing "remove this item from the list". How do I prevent it from being put there in the first place?
I would like to organize my program shortcuts into folders in the Start, All Programs menu, but I can't find the main folder where these shortcuts are listed?
The shortcut icons for frequently used programs that appear in the start menu below the Internet, Email, etc. shortcuts seem to have disappeared. I noticed it when I rebooted after having defragmented system files using PerfectDisk 8. I assumed the list just got cleared, but it seems no matter how many programs I open, no new shortcuts are ever created. The space just remains blank.I'm not sure if this has any bearing, but I'm also running WindowBlinds 6. I've had WindowBlinds for a long long time and have never run across this issue. Also disabling WB doesn't seem to fix anything.I'm sure the solution is something quite simple
