The "Network Tasks" And "Other Places" Sidebar Vanished?
Aug 27, 2005When I open My Network Places on XP Pro, The left side options "Network Tasks" and "Other Places" (The blue and white sidebar) is not there.

Slow Network Browsing: "My Network Places" Takes Long To Click?
Jun 9, 2006when I browse "My Network Places", the browsing is so incredibly slow. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.

However I can not move or copy files from within the server. Nor can I save a file directly onto the server from within another application.

Now, having recently gotten this laptop (which previously ran Vista Home Pro, until I downgraded), I felt compelled to set up file sharing between it and my desktop, you know, to quickly access all my music and what have you. So I attempted to do this as one would normally do, only to receive an error when attempting to access my Desktop computer through My Network Places.

Jan 25, 2005I recently upgraded my Intellimouse Optical's drivers to version 5.2. After doing this, however, I noticed that the software is automatically hiding my cursor when I begin typing. I definitely do not want this happening, and I was a bit mad to find out that the option to "hide cursor while typing" is unchecked. I tried rolling back the drivers with no luck. Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.

VB Program Run From Scheduled Tasks
Sep 7, 2005Running a VB program from Sheduled Tasks, the VB program is supposed to bring up a form with information. The program works fine when started the "normal" way but when i start it from Sheduled Tasks it does start but it does not bring up the form. You can see the program running among the processes but thats all.

Oct 11, 2005I am facing an unusual problem in my PC. Well first of all I tell you the specs of my PC. Its a P4 2.4 Ghz machine with 512MB Ram and 80G HD. I have dual boot with 98 and XP as my 2 OSs. Most of the times I am on XP but for using DOS i need 98.
The symptoms of the problem/virus in my PC are as follows:When I right click on any icon; say drive, file, folder etc. The first option is displayed as 'blank' instead of 'open'. I clicked on that option on CD-Rom drive letter by mistake and the CD Rom was not being detected since then. The icon just vanished. No Antivirus software has detected it yet (Ive tried 2)
