Here's how to change the 5 shortcuts you see on the left when you do a "Save As..." The default save as places are : Recent Documents / Desktop / Documents / My Computer / My Network Places To put your own shortcuts there, do this :
Click on the Start button.Select and click on Run next, type gpedit.msc and click on OK Under "Local Computer Policy", expand the navigation tree following the directions below.
I normally save my documents to a folder nested deep down in My Documents folder.
The shortcuts in the My Places bar are convenient but they could be be more convenient if I could replace one or more of them with a folder that I choose.
Is there way to do that
does anyone know of a way to hack the places bar so more than 5 shortcuts can be added ?

A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy windows is acting like it has no registry i can't access system restore, reg edit, etc. or and has icons only on the shortcuts which are defult like computer network bin etc. The files eg word doc or a pdf can been seen with the appropriate program. I can work programs like normal as i am using firefox, IE ain't working but i can acces computer which is IE . I'm ready to wipe it clean and start from scratch.I get a blue-screen which I can reproduce consistently. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
I have outlook in a shortcut on my start menu. I only have to click it once, and it runs. What is the difference between it and other shortcuts that must be launched with two clicks? Can I make an arbitrary shortcut launch with a single click?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am lost some of my short cuts will not work. When I select a short cut all of the shorcuts vanish for two seconds then reappear with nothing activated. Not all short cuts are effected Just Windows explorer, My computer, My Documents, Recycle Bin & Control Panel. Earlier in the day when the icon failed I could right click and it would work. I could enter my programs and start the application that way also. I Have office and all the icons work for that.
