Can No Longer Right Click On The "Start" Menu Button To Get To Explorer

New From Explorer Right Click Menu No Longer Functions.
Jun 23, 2005Something has happened to my installation of WinXP Pro. The Windows Explorer Right Click Menu has the selection "New" from which (among other things) I could chose to create a new folder.
Now when I right click and move to the "New" selection there is a dialog box the flickers on several times and then goes away and that's it. Nothing else. The dialog box goes away so fast it is hard to read but I THINK is says something about "Preparing to install".
I have never seen this problem before and haven't a clue how to fix it. Where in the registry is the stuff that controls what appears under the "New" selection? Perhaps it is corrupt in some way.
I sure hope someone can help me, this is a bummer.

Sep 11, 2007Hello, The other day I formatted my computer and reinstalled everything back onto it. I've run a few spyware scans and deleted all (most were cookies) and also some virus scans with AVG. It picked up about 11 viruses! but I quarantined them. Anyways, the problem is there's no shutdown or run button on my start menu! I've never heard of that before. So I'm wondering what it is. I've tried to access the registry editor by pressing Windows + R, typing regedit in Command Prompt, and browsing through the Windows folder for it, but it comes up with "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator" I don't get this, I AM the administrator! What could it be!?

Feb 18, 2009The only way I can get started is Control/Alt/Delete, which raises Task Manager, then enter URL for Internet Explorer (.exe) to get into the internet, then either hit the Read Mail button to get Outlook Express, or enter the Outlook Express URL into Task Manager.Can't access C-drive at all. Nov 11, 2007I'm no pro regarding computerstuff what so ever, but I know my ways aroudn at least. But the other day I got a whole bunch of abd viruses I think..from where I have no clue. I run Nod32 and it probably missed this ones. So anyway, I noticed I had some kind bad stuff called Vundo trojan. is that correct? So, I managed to remove (I think) that with Spyware doctor.BUT, the problems I had stared before i removed it. I have one account, my own, with admin. rights. BUT the "Shut off" button is missing in my startmenu and I cant start the Windows Task manager, because it has ben blocked by the..administrator? BUT, thats me? So, how can this be?It's really annoying and I have noo clue what so ever on what to do here. I tried to create a new account, and that worked fine. But that would mean alot of extra work with mailprograms and stuff.

Feb 4, 2007I attempt to start search from the start button explorer hangs. when i open task manager it shows explorer is using up all of the cup time and the only thing i can do is end the task and restart. Whenever i start a search from within a window it works perfectly.

Jun 5, 2006I have windows XP home edition running on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, and have recently done a windows repair, which set me back to service pack one. So I went to the site and downloaded all of the necessary updates, installed, and then went back a second time and did it again and installed SP2. I then received the BSOD when I restarted after SP2. So I started up using F8 to boot into the most recent configuration that worked, and there was no taskbar or start menu. I tried starting up normally, and it started up, but took forever loading (the screen that says loading your settings), and the taskbar is still not there, neither is the start menu.

Dec 5, 2007In last 24 hrs I am getting some very strange and vexing behavior from Windows Explorer and the start menu. Hope someone can help. The start menu programs pop up, but disappear before I can click them. Windows screen flickers at the same time when the start menu items vanish, and also flickers at other times. Fonts on the desktop, once just white, are now showing up white on a black rectangular background - didn't do any theme change. Windows Explorer has been crashing from time to time in the last week, no apparent reason. And the monitors are bleeding. Kidding about that last one, but am expecting it soon.

Dec 9, 2008i ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools.The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.

Jun 21, 2005This is kind of related to my ctrl+alt+del button, as well as my favorites button freezing. Once I am online for 30 minutes or so, when I go to an image and right click>save as, the window will freeze and I will have to close it. Same with my favorites button, after 30 minutes or so being online, it will freeze when i click it. I can use the Favorites drop-down list (in between view and tools) fine, so that isnt too big of a problem. This is also the same with my crtl+alt+del, it will freeze after being on 30 minutes or so. But it doesnt happen everytime, just sometimes.

Jul 15, 2006when I click on the Stand By button my computer well hibernate. I have been using Stand By for 3 years now. The button actually says Stand By, It says it is going into stand by mode. But it goes into Hibernate mode. Before when I put it in Stand By mode, the fans would all turn off. Now the fan doesnt turn off at all. From what I understand is that Hibernate mode saves your current settings. I have click the Stand By button a number of times with my web browser open and after I wake up from stand by (or what it is says is stand by) my web browser is still on the screen.
