Boot External Hard Drive Shown Invalid System Disk Error
Dec 29, 2006An external hard drive. When it is on & I try to boot,I get the following error : Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key I then have to turn off the external & press any key to get it to boot. Is there a way that I can boot with that external turned on. Some setting I need to change perhaps? I have an E-Machines computer about 2 years old.

Oct 9, 2008I'll start with a bit of background so everyone doesn't suggest the usual tips for speeding up the start menu.I'm logged in as administrator and running XP and have had problems with the start menu - all programs list being stupidly slow to populate for a while, and no performance issues anywhere else. I've tried all the usual removing shadows, fade and slide; unchecking auto search for network folders and printers; fiddling with the menu order in the registry and checking there are no false entries, etc, etc, but with no joy.I then noticed in C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorStart MenuProgramsAccessories there are two invalid links to 'Tour Windows XP' and 'Windows Explorer', and whenever I get anywhere near this folder everything slows up, which suggests to me these are the problem (although I could be wrong).
When I try to delete these shortcuts I get 'Cannot delete Tour Windows XP: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)'. The location both shortcuts are pointing to is C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorStart MenuProgramsAccessories - so are these just pointing to themselves?I then went on to check C:Documents and SettingsDefault UserStart MenuProgramsAccessories and found both these shortcuts exist there as well, and are valid working shortcuts. Easy I thought, I can just copy these over to replace the invalid shortcuts and everything's fixed - but it asks me if I want to replace the existing file, and then says 'Cannot move Tour Windows XP: A file with the same name already exists. Specify a different name.'So I appear to be stuck with two invalid shortcuts in my menu that drive the processor mad anytime I go near them, and I can't delete, rename or point them at something else.

Apr 27, 2007I have the MSMSGS box checked in my Startup file, I think it's something to do with the Windows Messenger service. I'm not sure what this is as I mainly use my PC for emails and surfing. Is it safe to uncheck the MSMSGS entry, and if it is, how can I remove the Icon from the bar at the bottom right of my screen?

I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. The mouse moves; however, I am unable to open anything including the recycle bin so that I can put the program back on the computer. I have tried to restart and it still happens.

Runner Error: BackWeb.dll: Error Code 126
Jul 27, 2008I receive an error code every time I start up my computer: Could not load the target dll "BackWeb" directory does not exist on my computer. I recently allowed someone access to my computer for a time and came home to it being full of popups/errors etc, so I did a thorough clean with AVG and TrendMicro, and now no longer receive any virus otifications in scans. Registry errors and spyware still come up though, which I am continuing to try to take care of with CCleaner, Ad-aware, and Spybot S&D. Now, This was probably a corrupted .dll file, and considering the error message, it seems likely.

Jun 1, 2005We had a similar problem on two computers with Angelfire months ago, however, that cleared itself up...not sure what resolved it.
When trying to access the page, I receive the status bar error of "Invalid Syntax" with a Page cannot be displayed.
I have run AdAware, Spybot, HiJackThis, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware several times, with nothing showing up.
Any suggestions?

Txtsetup.sif Is Invalid Error
Dec 10, 2005I get this error when booting up from an xp pro disc rite after it sais it's analyzing hardware it shows this..
exact error message- line 4813 of the inf file i386 xtsetup.sif is invalid setup cannot continue.
I looked in that txtsetup.sif file in the xp cd and the line looks like lwusbhid.sys = 1,,,,,,,,3,3
but above it shows the inf file lwusbhid.inf = 1,,,,,,,20,0,0 just that one is on a different line.. 4812
If you could give me advice lol.. on the internet all it tells me is it's a cd issue, cables, hd, memmory etc. but I have no clue as im a hardware noob :X the only thing I checked really is it's not a cd rom drive shaking issue or one with the hard drives since I disconnected that

I also could not download the latest java because the security section would not allow it.

Invalid Product Key:SP3 Cd With SP1 Key Workable?
Oct 19, 2008I am installing XP Pro on to a machine. I am using a SP3 CD (as that is what I have). When I am asked to put the key in it says "Product ID you entered is invalid". Is this because it is a SP3 cd and not the original OEM disk? Also, it isn't giving me any option to call in.

Jan 21, 2009Im trying to reinstall XP onto a laptop (Professional, Service Pack 2) and when I get to the Serial Key screen, the key is invalid. I know the key I have is valid (Generated through MSDN site), so I have tried to use a newer version of the disc. When rebooting the machine, it tells me to insert the previous disc....so my question is this. Is there any way I can start the installation from the very beginning, using the newer disc, so that I can use the key?

May 22, 2006As part of my on-going saga, I'm at the point of re-installing XP. I haven't tracked down the CDs that came with the machine, yet, but I borrowed a XP Home Edition CD (upgrade) from my mom. I booted from the CD-ROM and started the Windows installation process. I'm at the point where it wants me to enter the product key and I enter the key on the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition label that's taped on the side of the case (it's a HP Pavilion box) and Windows tells me the product key is invalid. Is this due to some kind of upgrade CD vs OEM CD kind of thing?

Aug 21, 2009My XP desktop was in the middle of running CHKDSK when there was a power outage. Since then the computer will not start-up. It begins the usual POST, recognizing the drives then it comes to a screen saying Invalid System Disk, Replace the disk and then press any key.There are no disks in any of the CD/DVD drives. I have tried the recovery disk and even a full version XP disk, but nothing seems to be "seen". I get the same screen every time.
