I am installing XP Pro on to a machine. I am using a SP3 CD (as that is what I have). When I am asked to put the key in it says "Product ID you entered is invalid". Is this because it is a SP3 cd and not the original OEM disk? Also, it isn't giving me any option to call in.

I haven't tracked down the CDs that came with the machine, yet, but I borrowed a XP Home Edition CD (upgrade) from my mom. I booted from the CD-ROM and started the Windows installation process. I'm at the point where it wants me to enter the product key and I enter the key on the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition label that's taped on the side of the case (it's a HP Pavilion box) and Windows tells me the product key is invalid. Is this due to some kind of upgrade CD vs OEM CD kind of thing?

I checked it out on the "howtotell" website and it is a pirated version of XP Pro. She wants me to make it right and get a valid Product Key.My question is, she wants to get XP Home and I don't know if I can install XP Home on top of XP Pro? Also, How do I install the valid Product Key? Do I have to do a complete installation or can I just update the product key? I'm sure she doesn't want to loose any of the software on her machine. It originally had WinME on it and was upgraded to WinXP Pro with a pirated version.

Is there somewhere in Windows that would tell me which copy to send and which to keep? will he be able to reuse this disk to put on a new HD in a new computer? Can he put his old HD in a new computer?
there is a GENUINE XP PROFESSIONAL CD with it's case. But neither the case nor the CD has the product key on it. So I am not able to install it on my new HD. Is there any way to install this XP PROFESSIONAL without the product key or get the product key somehow?
We had a similar problem on two computers with Angelfire months ago, however, that cleared itself up...not sure what resolved it.
When trying to access the page, I receive the status bar error of "Invalid Syntax" with a Page cannot be displayed.
I have run AdAware, Spybot, HiJackThis, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware several times, with nothing showing up.
Any suggestions?

I get this error when booting up from an xp pro disc rite after it sais it's analyzing hardware it shows this..
exact error message- line 4813 of the inf file i386 xtsetup.sif is invalid setup cannot continue.
I looked in that txtsetup.sif file in the xp cd and the line looks like lwusbhid.sys = 1,,,,,,,,3,3
but above it shows the inf file lwusbhid.inf = 1,,,,,,,20,0,0 just that one is on a different line.. 4812
If you could give me advice lol.. on the internet all it tells me is it's a cd issue, cables, hd, memmory etc. but I have no clue as im a hardware noob :X the only thing I checked really is it's not a cd rom drive shaking issue or one with the hard drives since I disconnected that
When i try to get into google or yahoo or most webpages i get an error page coming up and invalid syntax error in the top blue section.
I also could not download the latest java because the security section would not allow it.
I have checked in the internet options and security is set to medium and file downloads is enabled.
I am having problems with my IE, everytime I go to a website it says invalid syntax error...I read in some of the previous posts about the hijackthis log...would someone please analyze it..and tell me what is wrong?

I know the key I have is valid (Generated through MSDN site), so I have tried to use a newer version of the disc. When rebooting the machine, it tells me to insert the previous disc....so my question is this. Is there any way I can start the installation from the very beginning, using the newer disc, so that I can use the key?

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy XP desktop was in the middle of running CHKDSK when there was a power outage. Since then the computer will not start-up. It begins the usual POST, recognizing the drives then it comes to a screen saying Invalid System Disk, Replace the disk and then press any key.There are no disks in any of the CD/DVD drives. I have tried the recovery disk and even a full version XP disk, but nothing seems to be "seen". I get the same screen every time.

View 11 Replies View RelatedThis is a fix for if you ever had a "data invalid" problem that nags you while you were installing and swapping out cards with Windows XP. This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported). To fix this problem, go to Start, Run... and type "regedit" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetENUMPCI and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device.
