I purchased a sealed 'genuine' copy of Windows XP Professional with product key from Ebay about 2 years ago. I registered the copy with the product key back then and it worked fine until a recent update. Now, Microsoft are saying that I have a counterfeit copy with invalid product key for my region(Australia). How do I remove the annoying 'victim of software counterfeit' reminder that Microsoft has put on my desktop? Except for the obvious solution
Two of them are now coming up with messages saying that my OS (Win2000 pro) is 'NOT GENUINE." I get these messages constantly. I checked their FAQ's and all of it, and there is no solution for me other than spending $149, which I will not do. Their FAQ's do not address the issue of someone using a donated computer and I can't get the messages to stop; it's not like I can uncheck them in startup or anything. I tried System Restore but it won't allow me to do that any more.
I am installing XP Pro on to a machine. I am using a SP3 CD (as that is what I have). When I am asked to put the key in it says "Product ID you entered is invalid". Is this because it is a SP3 cd and not the original OEM disk? Also, it isn't giving me any option to call in.
As part of my on-going saga, I'm at the point of re-installing XP. I haven't tracked down the CDs that came with the machine, yet, but I borrowed a XP Home Edition CD (upgrade) from my mom. I booted from the CD-ROM and started the Windows installation process. I'm at the point where it wants me to enter the product key and I enter the key on the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition label that's taped on the side of the case (it's a HP Pavilion box) and Windows tells me the product key is invalid. Is this due to some kind of upgrade CD vs OEM CD kind of thing?
I was in the process of adding Ram to a friends laptop and decided to install the SP2 update for her. It failed due to an Invalid Product key. I checked it out on the "howtotell" website and it is a pirated version of XP Pro. She wants me to make it right and get a valid Product Key.My question is, she wants to get XP Home and I don't know if I can install XP Home on top of XP Pro? Also, How do I install the valid Product Key? Do I have to do a complete installation or can I just update the product key? I'm sure she doesn't want to loose any of the software on her machine. It originally had WinME on it and was upgraded to WinXP Pro with a pirated version.
i have been using my OEM version of XP home for the past few years, have reformatted my HD a few times and used the cd to reinstall it without trouble yesterday i decided my computer needed another reformat, so i did so assuming that the installation would work. now every time i enter in the cd key (the CORRECT one that comes with my LEGIT version of xp home), it says my product key is invalid.
I couldnt install the service pack 2 because the installation says my product keys are unvalid and it gave a website to find the solution to my problem. But I couldn't find anything that fits my situation from this website... It's www.howtotell.com. I have the valid product keys now but couldnt find a way how to reenter it. Is there anything to do beside reinstall WinXP? I have another CD with valid product key.
I HAVE MICROSOFT VALID XP PRO CD WITH LEGIT. PRODUCT KEY. WHEN I GO TO WINDOWS UPDATES I GET AN INVALID PRODUCT KEY MESSAGE. I HAVE USED THE WALK AROUND BY GOING TO TOOLS, MANAGE ADD-ONS AND DISABLING THE WGA. IT WORKS, BUT AS A PERSON WHO LIKES TO DO THINGS CORRECTLY , IS MICROSOFT COMING OUT WITH A FIX FOR THIS FRUSTRATING ISSUE..
I have a valid PID key and when I go to windows updates I get an invalid product key message. But , If i leave it on auto updates , it downloads all the updates for me.?
I HAVE A VALID COPY OF WINDOWS XP PRO. WHEN I GO TO WINDOWS UPDATES IT VALIDATES THEN I RECEIVE A MESSAGE THAT YOU HAVE AN INVALID PRODUCT ID. I READ IN A NEWS GROUP THAT IT WAS A BUG. I RECEIVED THIS QUOTE FROM A NEWGROUP POSTING. The result of a bug in WinXP SP2's code that creates the PID for display. WGA extracts the correct PID. The one displayed in System Properties General tab will have the OEM-00 issue because of the bug.
I am trying to install windows xp pro OEM, everything is fine, it accepts my product key, the installion goes well, it gets to the final installation process and it again asks for the 'product ID code', I type it in for the second time at it then says the product id number in invalid. How come it lets me through the first request for my Product ID number and lets me through the whole set up and then refuses my ID number at the last minute? im definately using the correct number.
I am new to this forum but not a new user to Windows XP. I need your help. I have a windows XP orginal CD. I had made a backup copy of it as soon as i had received it. But unfortunately I didnt make a backup copy of the Product Key, for which I am here. No I am not asking you to come to my house and search for the 'lost' Cd. I want to ask that how can I retrieve my Windows Product Key from the installed XP I already have. I know you are going to say Majic Jelly Bean software, very useful. But then agein there is another problem. My existing windows installation is corrupted and I cannot log on to. I have managed to have a clean install on another partition with an invalid key (read crack), although I dont intend to do so. So please help if I could anyhow recover my original CD Key.
When I went back to the dealer who built it for me he said he gave me the counterfeit copy in order to be able to give me a cheaper price on my computer. He advised me not to install the MS upgrade as Vista will soon be coming out and I would probably want to upgrade to that. My question is will I be able to upgrade to Vista having a counterfeit XP or will I need to format and do a clean install? Also , what are the problems I might have using the copy of XP I have now till Vista comes out?

Until recently there were a large number of Windows operating systems for sale on ebay. Particularly Win XP Pro OEM versions at reasonable prices. I purchased one several months ago, and it came in a sealed package, with COA and that beautiful CD. I finally got around to installing it on a new build, activated like a champ. But when I went to download some security updates it went berserk...THIS IS COUNTERFEIT, blah, blah. So I mailed it off to MS WGA. Now there are very few OSs listed on ebay. Could someone fill me in on what happened, and did MS make good on their offer to replace the fraudulent system with a good one? Also, how come it activated if it was counterfeit?
An older friend got a CPU given to him so he can access email. Only problem is that apparently the Windows XP on it isn't geniune. I don't mind buying the XP Home Edition and replacing it but have some questions about how to do the replacement. Am I better to click the "Resolve Now" link and buy it from Microsoft? Or should I just pick up one at the store? Then, do I need to remove the bogus copy befroe I try to load the real one? If I load the real one without doing anything about the bogus one will the real one take care of it? Would the one I could purchase online automaticallly resolve these issues? I'm not real concerned about losing his word documents - there are few. I expect I may have to reload his internet connection software. I'm worried that this could be above my IT skill-level but I feel it needs to be resolved.
It's not really my computer that has the problem. computer has this problem and unfortunately the genuine microsoft error is slowing his computer really badly. His problem is this: It asked for it to do some update on microsoft, so I thought "what the hell, and clicked okay or something, thinking it was the same as windows automatic updates. but after it was done, who would've guessed, It gave him an error saying his computer might be counterfeit or something
My son moved out of town and now wants his copy of Windows XP Pro that he left behind. I have two copies that are idententical except for the product keys. Is there somewhere in Windows that would tell me which copy to send and which to keep? will he be able to reuse this disk to put on a new HD in a new computer? Can he put his old HD in a new computer?
there is a GENUINE XP PROFESSIONAL CD with it's case. But neither the case nor the CD has the product key on it. So I am not able to install it on my new HD. Is there any way to install this XP PROFESSIONAL without the product key or get the product key somehow?
I'm trying to install UPnP on my system but I get this error message. The dll file IS there. I have tried downloading the file from the internet and Browsing to it on the desktop but it always gives this error message.

Im trying to copy a licensed copy of software to another cd. The software is on a 700 meg cdr. However there happens to be 1.5 gigs of files on the cd. How can i transfer the files to another cd the same way. Im trying to make a backup copy of my Microsoft office 2003 cd just in case anything happens to the original.
We had a similar problem on two computers with Angelfire months ago, however, that cleared itself up...not sure what resolved it.
When trying to access the page, I receive the status bar error of "Invalid Syntax" with a Page cannot be displayed.
I have run AdAware, Spybot, HiJackThis, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware several times, with nothing showing up.

I'm trying to do a repair on my Windows XP and when I try to get into C:/Windows - it's asking me for an administrators password - I have no idea what that is. I tried my log in password but it says it's invalid.
Im trying to reinstall XP onto a laptop (Professional, Service Pack 2) and when I get to the Serial Key screen, the key is invalid. I know the key I have is valid (Generated through MSDN site), so I have tried to use a newer version of the disc. When rebooting the machine, it tells me to insert the previous disc....so my question is this. Is there any way I can start the installation from the very beginning, using the newer disc, so that I can use the key?
I am getting this error message when I start windows XP Home, It says Replace the disk and press any key On doing so it starts normally.othing is in the CD drives and floppy is disabled in Bios.Booting is from the second hard disk - partition 2.
