I was in the process of adding Ram to a friends laptop and decided to install the SP2 update for her. It failed due to an Invalid Product key. I checked it out on the "howtotell" website and it is a pirated version of XP Pro. She wants me to make it right and get a valid Product Key.My question is, she wants to get XP Home and I don't know if I can install XP Home on top of XP Pro? Also, How do I install the valid Product Key? Do I have to do a complete installation or can I just update the product key? I'm sure she doesn't want to loose any of the software on her machine. It originally had WinME on it and was upgraded to WinXP Pro with a pirated version.
I am installing XP Pro on to a machine. I am using a SP3 CD (as that is what I have). When I am asked to put the key in it says "Product ID you entered is invalid". Is this because it is a SP3 cd and not the original OEM disk? Also, it isn't giving me any option to call in.
As part of my on-going saga, I'm at the point of re-installing XP. I haven't tracked down the CDs that came with the machine, yet, but I borrowed a XP Home Edition CD (upgrade) from my mom. I booted from the CD-ROM and started the Windows installation process. I'm at the point where it wants me to enter the product key and I enter the key on the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition label that's taped on the side of the case (it's a HP Pavilion box) and Windows tells me the product key is invalid. Is this due to some kind of upgrade CD vs OEM CD kind of thing?
I purchased a sealed 'genuine' copy of Windows XP Professional with product key from Ebay about 2 years ago. I registered the copy with the product key back then and it worked fine until a recent update.Now, Microsoft are saying that I have a counterfeit copy with invalid product key for my region(Australia).How do I remove the annoying 'victim of software counterfeit' reminder that Microsoft has put on my desktop? Except for the obvious solution
i have been using my OEM version of XP home for the past few years,have reformatted my HD a few times and used the cd to reinstall it without trouble yesterday i decided my computer needed another reformat, so i did so assuming that the installation would work. now every time i enter in the cd key (the CORRECT one that comes with my LEGIT version of xp home), it says my product key is invalid.
I couldnt install the service pack 2 because the installation says my product keys are unvalid and it gave a website to find the solution to my problem. But I couldn't find anything that fits my situation from this website... It's www.howtotell.com. I have the valid product keys now but couldnt find a way how to reenter it. Is there anything to do beside reinstall WinXP? I have another CD with valid product key.
I HAVE MICROSOFT VALID XP PRO CD WITH LEGIT. PRODUCT KEY. WHEN I GO TO WINDOWS UPDATES I GET AN INVALID PRODUCT KEY MESSAGE. I HAVE USED THE WALK AROUND BY GOING TO TOOLS, MANAGE ADD-ONS AND DISABLING THE WGA. IT WORKS, BUT AS A PERSON WHO LIKES TO DO THINGS CORRECTLY , IS MICROSOFT COMING OUT WITH A FIX FOR THIS FRUSTRATING ISSUE..
I have a valid PID key and when I go to windows updates I get an invalid product key message. But , If i leave it on auto updates , it downloads all the updates for me.?

I RECEIVED THIS QUOTE FROM A NEWGROUP POSTING. The result of a bug in WinXP SP2's code that creates the PID for display. WGA extracts the correct PID. The one displayed in System Properties General tab will have the OEM-00 issue because of the bug.

My son moved out of town and now wants his copy of Windows XP Pro that he left behind. I have two copies that are idententical except for the product keys. Is there somewhere in Windows that would tell me which copy to send and which to keep? will he be able to reuse this disk to put on a new HD in a new computer? Can he put his old HD in a new computer?
there is a GENUINE XP PROFESSIONAL CD with it's case. But neither the case nor the CD has the product key on it. So I am not able to install it on my new HD. Is there any way to install this XP PROFESSIONAL without the product key or get the product key somehow?
Their is a website called www.hyperiums.com, its a text game. Well I was able to get on it before. But last night I could and I thought the server was down(it goes down sometimes). So I went on windows messenger, and people who play the game says it was working. So now I know its only me. When I type in www.hyperiums.com it leads to the usual "this page can not be displayed" page. Anyone know how I can fix it?
My computer won't allow me to play games, I can go to the site but if I try to click play nothing happens,also can't get through other sites I can see the background but thats it. It will not allow any activity ,only the background shows up. and I've lost the sound on you tube, and the video doesn't show up.I can see the videos but I can only read the captions along the side.
I have Windows XP and IE 7. For one particular website, I keep getting the error "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage. It is a video site where I am able to see the videos I can choose from, but as soon as I try to log on, I get the error. I was using IE 8, but switched to 7 because I thought that was my problem. I tried deleting cookies but that didn't work either. Help!
clicking on the icons does nothing in order to get on the internet i go to start and click on the internet label and everything works fine when I load something from a website when the process is completed nothing happens as if there was no download.
There is a website I use at work that is a State Government database. The site will start to load but it stops. On the left side would be a menu that would load normally that is Java. It does not load so the database is unavailable. The site tells you to disable pop up blockers which i have. I had norton on the computer a while back and the only way i could get into this website then was to disable Norton. This current problem started when I loaded the AOL Security. Even with AOL security and all firewalls disabled still can not access the site. So i removed AOL security and loaded AVG and Zone Alarm in its place. Still can not get into the site with those disabled.
I got lucky here but I just can't seem to load this website! I'm probably using way too much memory because I have a myspace too. Could that be the problem?
For the last couple of weeks I haven't been able to access www.bankofamerica.com. Seems all other website are fine. I know it is working because I can access it through my laptop that is connected through the same router and modem. Here is how my network is set up: -I have DSL with a static IP (I've tried using from the 5 available and none work).
-For a router I use a Sonicwall TZ 170 that is assigned one of the static IP's from the 5 available.
-I use a Linksys WRt54G wireless router as a wireless access point with DHCP turned off (my desktop is connected straight to the Sonicwall).
The only glimmer of light that I have seen is Anonymizer (www.anonymizer.com). I downloaded the trial and when it is running I can access www.bankofamerica.com. When I check my IP at www.ipchicken.com it reports another IP other than my static IP which is what the Anonymizer does, but I don't understand why I would be able to access the site. My static IP can't have been blocked because I can access the BoA site using the laptop and the static IP.
I try to go to Roadrunner's speed test and all I get is Red Xs. My main PC gets the site correctly. This started when I upgraded to ZA Ver. 6, so I uninstalled V 6 and went abck to ver. 5. It appears that all settings in ZA are the same for both PCs but only one shows the site properly.?
i am using adsl modem and broadband connection for internet surfing. i am not behind any firewall and my computers firewall is turned off. I am using internet explorer and opera browsers Infact ping to this domain is not functioning i am able to open all the websites except this www.demonoid.com what could be the reason
Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me with this. I am trying to log onto a website that I was on yesterday and it is work related. However, tonight I am unable to do so on my desktop computer. I keep getting page not found. I also have a laptop and the site does show up there. My server is AOL and I have a Windows XP computer. My gut tells me when my desktop updated, perhaps my work site became blocked somehow by the firewall? I have no idea how to ublock it if that is the case.
Web sites I'm trying to enter partially appear, but, I can't enter as I get little boxes with a red X in the middle. I've already looked to make sure the "show pic" is checked under advanced multimedia and it is. I really need this fixed ASAP.
We had a similar problem on two computers with Angelfire months ago, however, that cleared itself up...not sure what resolved it.
When trying to access the page, I receive the status bar error of "Invalid Syntax" with a Page cannot be displayed.
I have run AdAware, Spybot, HiJackThis, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware several times, with nothing showing up.
Any suggestions?
Oh, and BTW: XP Home SP2 IE 6.0.290 SP2 Firefox Norton Internet Security (disabled) Linksys Wireless Router with Broadband cable connection (Already reset to factory defaults)
Am running XP with sp2 . Never come across this problem till now. When I get onto the Microsoft website and try to add updates manualy, the site checks out my PC system to see what os system im running (i presume), then I get 2 options, 1 to install custom updates and 1 for download priority. If I click on either I get a bar with moving green dots in telling me itschecking for latest updates on my computer. It does not stop! And when I press the Back link or close it just about freezes my whole pc, even Ctrl, Alt & delete does not work
Website Certificate Errors I just put together (rebuilt) my PC and installed XP Pro without any problems. Did a huge 100+ update via windows update and now whenever I visit secure websites like ebay, paypal or windows live, I get taken to a page advising 'There is a problem with this sites certificate'. I then have to click a link to 'continue anyway'I am reposting this question from a previous post that expired. Seems no one responded to it then. If it is not a question for this forum would you all at least let me know this sos I can look else where.
I'm not sure why I am no longer able to cut an image from a website (I use Mozilla Firefox) and paste it to my email (Incredimail). I haven't done it in a while and I don't think I changed any settings. I used to be able to do it and now nothing shows up on my email when I try to paste. I also have Word and the picture doesn't come up either, just an empty box.
