Uninstalling Programs From Add/Remove Options And Coming Back?
Feb 19, 2005
Under the 'add/remove programs' there is a list of programs, that i did uninstall a while back. So now when i click on uninstall on it in the 'add/remove programs' window, it does nothing but stay there. This must be because its still in the registry. The program is called 'Micrografx'.

I uninstalled the KAV trial because I had a lot of problems with it locking up. I used both add/remove/uninstall as well as the kaspersky removal tool (provided by KAV). I just noticed the xp search screen is completely missing. start-search. any suggestions on getting it back.

So a long time ago, my computer crashed when i was working with a folder I had made on my desktop. Now, no matter how many times I drop it in the recycle bin, and then empty the bin, or right click and delete it, or delete it from windows explorer. It keeps coming back It will be gone for a while... and then even within minutes. it just shows back up.

I've gone and set all the icons in my System tray, lower right corner, to ALWAYS BE HIDDEN, yet they keep coming back. Is there a registry tweak I can use? I'm using XP Home on a Compaq Laptop V5000.

I couldn't get rid of the "AlwaysUpdatedNews.com" Browser enhancer malware the conventional way through spy adware removal...so genius that I am I searched files and folders in C:drive for the specific date the "enhancer" took over and deleted every file that was CREATED on that specific date, Not Modified or so I thought. Now "Windows cannot find the file %SystemRoot%mediachord.wav" along with other .wav files.

My computer had a file that I wanted to remove but instead got this message:Cannot delete file: Access is denied. The file is in use by another program or user.I was told to install unlocker to remove the file. I right-clicked unlocker on that file and it said there is nothing to be unlocked so I deleted the file through the unlocker options. I checked the recycling bin to see if it ended up there but that file was not in the recycling bin. I thought nothing of it and assumed it's gone for good but after I restarted the computer it came back. I also scanned and removed all the bugs from my computer but still no use. It keeps coming back. Although the file keeps coming back it contains nothing and takes up 0 space.

I have windows xp home edition on a hp pavilon pc. When i uninstall somthing, somtimes it stops responding near the end and then i have to end task. When i do that it has uninstalled the program but has left the icon in the "install/uninstall programs". There is no way i can get rid of it.if i click uninstall it just says "the installation is missing the file instops.dat. setup will now exit. This has recently happened to my norton antivirus. I tried to uninstall norton antivirus 2004 so i could install norton 360. But it froze at the end of the installaton, so i had to end task. Now the icon is permanantly stuck in the "install/uninstall programs". So norton 360 thinks the program is still installed and i cant install this new anti virus. Because of this my computer is unprotected.

How can a program that is not even present on my C-drive (but once was) appear in the control panel when I open "Add or Remove Programs"? My registry is somehow holding onto this old program even though it does not really exist on my C-drive. I am trying to reinstall the program properly but when I finish the installation, Windows XP will not let me open it! It says my file path is invalid, apparently a reference to the "ghost version" of the program that I cannot get rid of! So my question is: how can I get my registry to realize that the program is GONE so that I can reinstall it successfully

I need to reinstall XP on my current hard drive (160 Gig 5400 RPM Maxtor) due to a failure of xp to boot. First however, I would like to copy over my old files so I don't lose them when I eventually reformat this drive. At my disposal I have 1 working laptop, 1 300 Gig External 3.5 USB 2.0 HD and 2 40 Gig 2.5 (Laptop HD) and USB 2.0 external laptop drive enclosure, Windows XP Install Disc. I have ran scandsk /p (1 error found) and tried running the recovery console. My idea is to use one the 40 gig hard drives for a new install of windows and put the unbootable drive in the external enclosure to copy my files over however on my working computer, I don't believe it is that easy... If I remember correctly, you cannot just copy files off a once bootable hard drive?

I have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

My laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.

I want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove. But, according to the HDD the program is *still* installed. Did not find an "uninstall" or "unwise" file in the QB folder. Nor did

Right now when I boot my screen I have like 4 different options for what OS I want. There Windows XP (which I usually click), a Skeleton Boot (some boot screen program I was screwing with), another Windows XP (haven't used it, maybe a previous installation?), and some other windows option that my computer first came with.
Anyways, I know that I only use the first one so is there a way to eliminate the other 3 from the menu? Ideally I would like to not even see the menu when I boot the computer, I'd like it to just go through to windows. I thought I remembered seeing a control panel or some settings for that area somewhere but I can't remember where.
