I couldn't get rid of the "AlwaysUpdatedNews.com" Browser enhancer malware the conventional way through spy adware removal...so genius that I am I searched files and folders in C:drive for the specific date the "enhancer" took over and deleted every file that was CREATED on that specific date, Not Modified or so I thought.Now "Windows cannot find the file %SystemRoot%mediachord.wav" along with other .wav files.

Using XP Pro with SP2.The EN language bar which sits beside the System Tray keeps coming back no matter what I do.It goes away when I untick it but it's back the next time I start Windows. Have tried locking and unlocking Taskbar, no difference.Minor problem but very irritating.

Now, no matter how many times I drop it in the recycle bin, and then empty the bin, or right click and delete it, or delete it from windows explorer. It keeps coming back It will be gone for a while... and then even within minutes. it just shows back up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer had a file that I wanted to remove but instead got this message:Cannot delete file: Access is denied.The file is in use by another program or user.I was told to install unlocker to remove the file. I right-clicked unlocker on that file and it said there is nothing to be unlocked so I deleted the file through the unlocker options. I checked the recycling bin to see if it ended up there but that file was not in the recycling bin. I thought nothing of it and assumed it's gone for good but after I restarted the computer it came back. I also scanned and removed all the bugs from my computer but still no use. It keeps coming back. Although the file keeps coming back it contains nothing and takes up 0 space.

So now when i click on uninstall on it in the 'add/remove programs' window, it does nothing but stay there. This must be because its still in the registry. The program is called 'Micrografx'.

View 12 Replies View RelatedHello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?

I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. View 4 Replies View Relatedi wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.

Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. View 6 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

None of my games have sound and I can no longer listen to the online radio stations. However, today when I was on a website, music did come out of the speaker (something the creator of the site built into his homepage). Gateway suggested I update my drivers, but none of them needed to be updated (when I attempted to update it told me I had the newest version). What can I do to see where the problem is coming from?

I've "installed" this update at least three times. And I've already got SP 2 installed, so why does it keep wanting to install something from SP 1? How do I make it stop?
I wrote befroe but did not get an answer. Please help me to understand. I have windows xp with verizon/msn. my son has to 2 emails and I have 1. I have symantec virus protection and it is working properly. The problem I do not understand is everytime my son signs on to either email address the box from symantec comes up saying 32sasser has been successfully blocked. When I look at my log from symantec it shows it is blocking it constantly.I ran the sasser tool and shows no virus and did sybot and adaware, it showed 265 critical and i removed them. I understand this is being blocked but isn't there a way to stop them or it from trying to do this ?He gets emails showing from postman and RE-- emails and when we look there is nothing on the page.

Are you guys having the same problem? Using IE7, when viewing a thread, if I hit the back arrow to go back to the page I was previously viewing, it doesn't move at all. It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.

However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)

This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

Two weeks or so ago, after fooling around with some services (unchecking ones I didn't think I needed), the computer started doing something strange: When you bring it out of hibernation (not standby -- full hibernation), it comes back alive for maybe 20 seconds, looks and works normally.
