Computer Reboots After Coming Out Of Hibernation
Sep 17, 2008Have a relatively new J & N custom computer running Win XP-SP3. Has an Intel Core Duo E8400 CPU on an Intel mobo with onboard sound and video. 2GB RAM. Two weeks or so ago, after fooling around with some services (unchecking ones I didn't think I needed), the computer started doing something strange: When you bring it out of hibernation (not standby -- full hibernation), it comes back alive for maybe 20 seconds, looks and works normally.

Apr 9, 2008This is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.

Weirdly audio cd's seem to show and work in Itunes so I'm guessing it might be to with associations right or have i disabled a service by mistake?

Aug 19, 2005I have a fairly new Gateway computer and have had several problems with it. As of a couple of days ago, I no longer have sound on my computer. None of my games have sound and I can no longer listen to the online radio stations. However, today when I was on a website, music did come out of the speaker (something the creator of the site built into his homepage). Gateway suggested I update my drivers, but none of them needed to be updated (when I attempted to update it told me I had the newest version). What can I do to see where the problem is coming from?

Stopping Virus From Coming Through
May 6, 2005I wrote befroe but did not get an answer. Please help me to understand. I have windows xp with verizon/msn. my son has to 2 emails and I have 1. I have symantec virus protection and it is working properly. The problem I do not understand is everytime my son signs on to either email address the box from symantec comes up saying 32sasser has been successfully blocked. When I look at my log from symantec it shows it is blocking it constantly.I ran the sasser tool and shows no virus and did sybot and adaware, it showed 265 critical and i removed them. I understand this is being blocked but isn't there a way to stop them or it from trying to do this ?He gets emails showing from postman and RE-- emails and when we look there is nothing on the page.

However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)

Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

I right-clicked unlocker on that file and it said there is nothing to be unlocked so I deleted the file through the unlocker options. I checked the recycling bin to see if it ended up there but that file was not in the recycling bin. I thought nothing of it and assumed it's gone for good but after I restarted the computer it came back. I also scanned and removed all the bugs from my computer but still no use. It keeps coming back. Although the file keeps coming back it contains nothing and takes up 0 space.

Apr 18, 2005I would like my Numlock to be on by default when I boot my computer, but Windows is not doing that. When my computer boots, the NumLock is on at the beginning, but then when the first Windows screen comes on I can watch and see the NumLock light go out.
I am using Windows XP Home, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. I have gone into the Bios and made sure that Numlock is ON/ENABLED. I have checked the Windows Registry item, and it is set to "2". Also, the operating system has been registered with MicroSoft.
Where else in Windows can this be coming from? What else can I do/try to get the NumLock to be on at bootup?
