I am putting my computer on standby but it comes out after a few seconds. I have set the adapter to WOL (Wake on LAN). How to tell what is waking it up? I only want it to wake up when I access the IP address myself.

I've "installed" this update at least three times. And I've already got SP 2 installed, so why does it keep wanting to install something from SP 1? How do I make it stop?

I have disabled powermanagement in bios, in display settings under the Power settings they are all set to Never hibernate is unchecked but it still keeps going to standby

Have a relatively new J & N custom computer running Win XP-SP3. Has an Intel Core Duo E8400 CPU on an Intel mobo with onboard sound and video. 2GB RAM. Two weeks or so ago, after fooling around with some services (unchecking ones I didn't think I needed), the computer started doing something strange: When you bring it out of hibernation (not standby -- full hibernation), it comes back alive for maybe 20 seconds, looks and works normally.

View 6 Replies View Relatedit first started with a trojan, i got one that keeps tryin to get through, but it keeps getting blocked by bitdeffender. now sometimes wen it starts up it gets very slow, and sometimes freezes so i restart and it will be fine. now i have had this for bout 3 months now cause i cnt find any way of getting rid of it, it was vundo trojan yesterday i tried to load it twice, first time it froze, so second time i tried to start it up it keep coming up with bitdeffender asking if i want to allow something, i didnt no what it was so i keep saying block, but it keep coming up again n again n again, i pressed allowed and it still keep coming up so i shut down the computer, cause i was in a rush

But then after a few seconds of it going into the mode, the computer will start back up. I am running windows XP home. The computer model is a MDG computer running a intel motherboard and processor. View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a huge upgrade and fresh XP installation (up to SP2), my computer won't standby hibernate. The only parts that remained were the HDs, RAID card, and power supply. MOBO was upgraded to X38, GPU to GF8800GT, and CPU is now Dual Core. Prior to the upgrade, my PC could go into standby. Now it is "grayed out."I went to power management, hibernation tab is not there. I tried reinstalling MOBO drivers, same thing. My comp used to be able to do this in XP. Well, I read about it, and supposedly, dual core cannot go into standby (or at least winxp doesn't want to allow the user to do this with DualC). Is that true? Edit: I even tried the hotfix and disabling terminal services. No effect.I tried apmstat -v, and it said that this is an ACPI machine and that APM is not relevant.

Makes sense? It's like it's posessed!I've googled this problem, and it appears that it's a hardware problem, BUT, when i log in on safe mode, the problem disappears. So, being an average computer user, i'm pretty puzzled in the least. I have no idea what the problem was - I didn't install anything lately, or visit any webpages outside my usual ones. I haven't found a virus that acts this way, so I've ruled it out for now.

I am having a start problem with I guess the power usage, It sometimes come on, then shuts off after 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes only once, but sometimes more than once. Cannot afford right now to get it fixed or to buy something, so maybe if I can keep it in standby it would not use the initial startup surge of power. Also, I though my mouse would take the system out of standby but it don't. I have to use the power button on the computer, (even though the mouse information says to use this device to take the computer out of standby, it is checked. Are there other areas that I should check to see if something is marked wrong for using the mouse to take the system out of standby? I have an optical mouse incase its needed to know.

I have WINXP, Service pack 3. On SHUTDOWN I press STANDBY, computer shuts down, same for HIBERNATE. I checked the settings in POWER OPTIONS. No new programs installed recently.

I have an HP desktop. I accidentally hit the standby button on the keyboard. It started to put my computer into standby but seems to have completely powered it down. I couldn't turn it back on at all. I've tried hitting the power button and unplugging the computer. Nothing works. There is a green light near the power cord in the back blinking and that's it. I've tried unplugging all peripherals before plugging the power back in. I've also tried unplugging it and pressing the power button a few times before plugging it back in. I just can't get it to turn back on.

I have it programmed to start the screen saver after 3 minutes and to enter standby mode after 15 minutes. However, I'll come back an hour later only to find that the battery has been completely drained. Anyone know why my computer won't enter standby mode or start its screen saver?
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.

this happens in all modes, safe mode, networking mode, iv tried just about everything.I tried to use my xp disk and it doesnt load it, I have set it too boot from the disk aswell, and it makes no difference it just loads as normal and then logs out againIv made a boot floppy disk, and it lets me get to a form of DOS screen, but its useless, all the commands dont work, I have put the xp disk in, and tried too use the dos too install xp but it doesnt do anything
I had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. I kept getting this message on a blue screen saying my video driver failed to initialize and it shut down automatically but it would boot up normal if I didn't try to go into safe mode.So I read that you could set your computer to automatically boot into safe mode from msconfig so I went in and set it to boot into safe mode automatically every time I powered up. Once I put it on there everytime I go to shutdown the computer will say "It is safe to turn off your computer" and I have to shut it down manually by the power button.
