Computer Will Not Enter Standby Mode - Update The Driver
Jul 23, 2005
When I try to put my computer on standby the following message appears: "The
device driver for the Communications Port (COM1) device is preventing the
machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again.
If problem persists, you may need to update the driver." I believe I need to install an updated driver for my display adapter. However, I am having difficulty locating an appropriate download (for no fee, f possible). Could someone point me in the right direction?
For some reason my computer won't enter standby mode on its own. Most of the time it won't start a screen saver either. I have it programmed to start the screen saver after 3 minutes and to enter standby mode after 15 minutes. However, I'll come back an hour later only to find that the battery has been completely drained. Anyone know why my computer won't enter standby mode or start its screen saver?
every time i push the power button on my laptop, or try to enter hibernation or standby mode in any way, an error pops up that says System Hibernation Failed The device driver for the 'Quick Launch Buttons' device is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.i have searched for updates for my driver already so i don't know what to do here.
My laptop (the same one I've had for over two years) suddenly won't enter standby mode at all. When I close the laptop, it just hangs on the "entering standby mode" screen and drains the battery. When I open it up again, it shows that screen, and I have to press the power button to turn it off completely and start all over. When I try to put it in standby mode manually (by selecting it in the "turn off computer" options, the same thing happens. It seemingly started out of the blue and Every time I close it now, I have to completely shut it down, which is a pain.
HP m7680n running windows xp, StandBy mode ran well first 8 months I had this machine then last month it stopped functioning. The error message is very specific; 'Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1.4322 Update' is keeping my computer from going into standby mode. I thought this would be easy to solve but I do not know, where this program is located or how to find it nor do I know how to uninstall it.
Since installing Windows XP SP2 (upgrade from SP1) I noticed that Standby does not function. When I manually go to Standby, or if my laptop tries to go into Standby as per the power management settings I have set, I get the following message: "Standby has been prevented by the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard device driver. You may need to install an updated driver."
Any ideas on what I can try. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode and rebooting to reinstall the keyboard drivers. I have also checked my BIOS settings, and tried resetting the power management settings. I have even updated my ATI video adapter drivers. I noticed the problem shortly after installing SP2. There are no updated drivers available from Gateway for the keyboard.
I went into bios and disabled the search for the A: drive , because i couldn't care less. then it brought me to the screen to choose to open in safe mode, normally, or from the last point where windows worked well. problem : i can not use my keyboard in this setting, it works in bios, but i cant choose to load from the last working point of the OS.
I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped My laptop: Toshiba A105-S4134 XP SP2 MCE 2005 Intel T2400 Duo Core 2 GB RAM1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings
I am still having issues putting my computer into standby or into hybernation mode. It will start to go into it. But then after a few seconds of it going into the mode, the computer will start back up. I am running windows XP home. The computer model is a MDG computer running a intel motherboard and processor. I have checked and played with the bios setting and it does not help.
Running a computer I purchased with Windows XP Pro installed (No CD). Will not enter SAFE MODE when tapping F8 during bootup. Would not enter safe mode even after deliberately crashing the computer (pulled the power cord while computer was running).
I have windows XP on my laptop and it just refuses to enter in a standby mode, neither Hibernate mode.Usually it runs very normally but every time I try to put it on standby I get a blue error screen that says that my system have to shut down because of a serious error and that I have to check the bios. After that I just switch off the button and have to turn it off!
How long can you have your computer in standby mode? I would like it for a day at a time. I am having a start problem with I guess the power usage, It sometimes come on, then shuts off after 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes only once, but sometimes more than once. Cannot afford right now to get it fixed or to buy something, so maybe if I can keep it in standby it would not use the initial startup surge of power. Also, I though my mouse would take the system out of standby but it don't. I have to use the power button on the computer, (even though the mouse information says to use this device to take the computer out of standby, it is checked. Are there other areas that I should check to see if something is marked wrong for using the mouse to take the system out of standby? I have an optical mouse incase its needed to know.
My Inspiron 6000 would freeze after being put in standby mode overnight and I would have to force shutdown. Soemone on this forum advised me to check the Power Options in Control Panel. How should I set it up so the system won't hang after overnight standby? My current settings: With AC adapter plugged in: Turn off monitor: Never Turn off hard disk: Never System standby: Never System hibernates: Never
I have WINXP, Service pack 3. On SHUTDOWN I press STANDBY, computer shuts down, same for HIBERNATE. I checked the settings in POWER OPTIONS. No new programs installed recently.

( she isnt available ATM for me to get hte exact error msg ) i have tried to get into safe mode to remove this program . but safe mode isnt available . i have tried F5 on start up . and safe mode isnt in the options ..& the same with F8 no option to enter windows in safe mode . what would anyone suggest to try next ?
On starting up my PC I am unable to get past the initial BIOS readout it gets as far as 'Mouse Initialized' and then freezes. Pressing F8 does not work nor following the displayed message 'Press F2 to enter SETUP'
I've tried several times to start in safe mode on XP. All of the guides I've referenced say F8 is the key. However, when I boot, the only functions I see on the screen that only lingers for a moment are F10 and esc.I've tried the tapping method also. Nothing.I'm talking about an hp notebook
Just the other day i reset my computer but to my surprise it did not load up XP, instead it stayed with a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left hand corner. I thought it meant it was taking longer to load but it is just stuck there and i can't access my files!
I have changed the VGA settings for my monitor and after re-boot, I have a blank screen (after the windows start up). I've tried to start in safe mode, but it just runs a bunch of scripts and stalls. I've also tried to start it in any other safe mode, and they do the same thing. I've tried the "last known good configuration" - I get the blank screen. Since I just replaced the hard drive 2 days ago (the old one crashed)
I cannot enter safe mode in Windows XP Home Edition by rebooting and pressing F8. The last thing I did to my computer was add a second hard drive, reboot, and, press F1. When I did that, I saw "entering setup". I looked around, didn't change anything and exited. I have re-installed WinXP and still can't enter safe mode.
My computer is running horribly slow and so I've tried to enter safe mode but I get a blue screen with instructions. It says to check to be sure you have adequate disk space. Says to disable the driver (causing problems) or check with manufacturer for driver updates or try changing video adapters.I cannot get into safe mode at all to run spybot (freezes when in regular mode).I had to type this from another computer. The technical information is:*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x80537009, 0xF7A2B1B4, 0xF7A2AEB0)Thank you
I have a home built machine running XP Pro. It is a clean installation since had some recent other problems with it and completely formatted hard drive and reinstalled XP. I have added all the Window updates including sp3. I have a GE Force 6200 video card and have installed all the drivers but the machine will not enter sleep mode either manually or automatically (I mention this because I have read elsewhere this was a problem for Vista but haven't seen anything anywhere for XP). I even set the bios to force sleep mode and nothing happened.
When I try to go to Standby, I get the following message."Dell Enhanced QuietKey P52 with Dell touch" is preventing machine to go into Standby. How do I update this driver?
I have Linux and Windows XP sp2 home Have tried searching the forum without any results Tried f8 when script for grub appears but have been unsuccessful
I have a standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse which do not work as I try to enter Safe mode. As I am on Windows 2000 Pro, I need to log on as administrator. I am not password protected, but have no way of clicking the Log in button. There are no settings for Keyboard or Mouse in my BIOS setup
After loading a couple of programs (TurboCad and Adobe Photodeluxe), when I c,ose the lid to my Dell 1501 Inspiron laptop I get a warning sound and the following message on the screen, "The device driver for the 'Standard 101/102-key or Microsft Natural PS/2 keyboard' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to up date this driver.
The problem does , in fact, persisit. I had only one program application running and closing it had no effect. I went into Device manager and opened properties>driver tab for the keyboard. Clicked 'update driver' and was asked to insert the XP CD. no surprise it came beck with I have the latest driver installed. I created a restore point prior to installing the programs, but I'd like to avoid doing it over again. Anyone got any idea of a way to fix this without doing a restore?
power option properties is set to enter power save mode and turn off my monitor after 1 minute and my screen saver is set to "none". my monitor will enter power save mode turn off after 1 minute and stay off.however,my monitor won't enter power save mode after i am finished streaming a video on Internet, facebook, or myspace using both ie8 or firefox. also after watching a video with any media player such as wpm, quicktime or vlc media player.fter one minute the monitor switches off for a second and then switches right back on.then if the power scheme settings are re-applyed my monitor will enter power save mode and turn off again
The operating System is Windows XP with SP3. The system restore stops working at any point. To run the system restore has to enter the save mode. Do you know what the problem looks like and how to fix the problem?
I am under the impression that standby mode is compromising my OS. I only began using standby about a year ago and for the past 6 months or so my system has been less responsive and has even locked up a few times. It is an older system to begin with, but the problem is much worse when resuming from standby. I am mostly just curious if other people have had the same issue with XP Pro`s standby mode.
