The operating System is Windows XP with SP3. The system restore stops working at any point. To run the system restore has to enter the save mode. Do you know what the problem looks like and how to fix the problem?
View 8 Repliespower option properties is set to enter power save mode and turn off my monitor after 1 minute and my screen saver is set to "none". my monitor will enter power save mode turn off after 1 minute and stay off.however,my monitor won't enter power save mode after i am finished streaming a video on Internet, facebook, or myspace using both ie8 or firefox. also after watching a video with any media player such as wpm, quicktime or vlc media player.fter one minute the monitor switches off for a second and then switches right back on.then if the power scheme settings are re-applyed my monitor will enter power save mode and turn off again

Toshiba A105-S4134 XP SP2 MCE 2005 Intel T2400 Duo Core 2 GB RAM1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings
Just the other day i reset my computer but to my surprise it did not load up XP, instead it stayed with a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left hand corner. I thought it meant it was taking longer to load but it is just stuck there and i can't access my files!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a system restore and my system runs it all but when all is done I get a message saying that no changes have been made to my system and that the system restore was unsuccessful. The reason I am trying to restore my system is because Photoshop is suddenly unable to save as a jpeg? It doesn't recognise the jpeg format when saving and saves as a Photoshop document. THen it wont recognise the file to open it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail. Funnily enough photoshop elements has no problem with it.

I thought it a little odd, but thought I could have deleted by accident.This afternoon, Avira anti virus updated itself, and the pop up balloon said that 17 files had been uploaded. I switched the PC off and switched back on this tea time, and Avira updated itself again saying that it had uploaded 17 files again. the pc would go through the 'save' process.
I have just switched off system restore, and run Avira in safe mode, along with IOBit 360 and SuperAntiSpyware - Apart from 6 cookies stored, all was clear.I then rebooted to find no improvement, so I did a system restore going back a few weeks to be on the safe side. When the PC came back on, there was no evidence that a system restore had even taken place! (also all previous restore points were still there when they should have been erased)
I went into bios and disabled the search for the A: drive , because i couldn't care less. then it brought me to the screen to choose to open in safe mode, normally, or from the last point where windows worked well. problem : i can not use my keyboard in this setting, it works in bios, but i cant choose to load from the last working point of the OS.

But from the Microsoft documentation, looks like I cannot create a system restore point, which will remain permanently. It gets automatically deleted after some time. Can I copy the system restore file generated, and save it at a different place, and then use this file to system restore whenever I want to - say after 6 months or a year? If I can, then what are the files I need to copy?
View 11 Replies View RelatedSo I'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to get my copy of XP to boot.Every thing was working fine and then I tried to make a back up image of my drive using Norton Ghost 2003. I have a 200Gb Wester Digital SATA drive and an Asus A8n-SLI mobo. I think that there might have been some problem with the nVidia IDE/SATA drivers as ghost crashed half way thorugh the image making process. Now when I try to boot I get a "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

View 9 Replies View RelatedComputer having a boot problem. Computer turns on and the screen shows up showing XP loading then the screen just goes black not blue no error messages. I can boot it in safe mode and wanted to do a system restore but evidently system restore is turned off in safe mode so I cannot do that. I tried to boot several times in normal mode and I would get the XP is loading screen followed by a black screen with nothing on it.

My computer can no longer print. i cant reinstall my printer it always givers me a printer spooler error. i cant burn any cd's or dvd's anymore. When i run msconfig>services i have lots of services that have been stopped which i did not do myself i have tried to do a system restore and that doesnt work because for whatever reason this install removed all of my restore points except for the date that i install NAV 1-17-07. It's an XP OS and I remember creating a restore point sometime over the summer. But now I go to System Restore and it doesn't show any restore points available except for these last few days after the crash (12/2/06). The furthest back it goes is a point on that Friday (12/2) at 6:11:23 PM called "System Checkpoint". But it gives me an error message after rebooting that says it was unable to restore it to that point and no changes have been made. Is there another way to restore my computer or access that earlier restore point?

If it is replaced click on it and test System Restore.It replaced the file OK, but I still get the same error message. I can't even go through MY COMPUTER, System restore TAB. I tried several restore points, all with the same message. The program went as far as -- collecting information, shutting down windows, user log on window appearing, and then the error messages. Only in one user accout, when I do Start->All Programs-> Accessories-> System Restore, a full screen of system restore shows up with various restore points showing. And when I try to do a System Restore, nothing happens. No System Restore window comes up at all. Some background info: a few weeks ago, my laptop suddenly could boot up, not even in safe mode. "Windows cannot start " if windows doesnt start normally . windows will restart " a mesage similiar tothis ..and she receives the same message everytime .. ( she isnt available ATM for me to get hte exact error msg ) i have tried to get into safe mode to remove this program . but safe mode isnt available . i have tried F5 on start up . and safe mode isnt in the options ..& the same with F8 no option to enter windows in safe mode . what would anyone suggest to try next ?
On starting up my PC I am unable to get past the initial BIOS readout it gets as far as 'Mouse Initialized' and then freezes. Pressing F8 does not work nor following the displayed message 'Press F2 to enter SETUP'

Now the system will only boot in safe mode. So far I've done the restore several times. Gone into msconfig, checked Hide Microsoft services and disabled the rest, unchecked load startup items and tried a Diagnostic Startup. Device Manager looks fine, but I tried disabling items without change. It looks like the Restore Disc is the right one for the system.
I did system restore, and after my pc restarted, I was waiting for the system restore box that will say "Restoration Completed/Incomplete...", i waited for it for about 30mins or so and got frustrated... I turned OFF my pc manually... and when i restarted back my pc is working but there are problems.
-My system restore will open but it only has a clear white window.. nothing in it but white screen.
-I am not able to use the USERS window under control panel, getting the same thing for it, just a white window.
-My mcafee security program is also not working, getting that same white window.
i am able to see the title bar of the window but nothing else aside from that.
Any suggestions on what I can do?
