Stop The Duel Boot Menu From Coming Up
Sep 30, 2006
I have just run the re-installation disk for my friend's dell pc. It is running fine now except I get the duel boot menu with both choices are the same (windows xp home) then have to wait for the 30sec time out before it selects the top choice

I"m running WinXP SP2 Home. Hardware is 2.0 Celeron, 1 gig Ram, 64MB Nvidia Video Card, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, HD's are 250GIG Western Digital with 4 partitions and 27% free on the XP Boot and 200GIG Western Digital with 2 Partitions. I have a Lite-On DVD +-R/RW drive and a 3.5 floppy. I am setup with a Duel-Boot configuration Win 98/XP. I do not have a paging file.
My problem occures after I hit enter for the Select Operating System page. I Hit enter, Win XP proceeds to load. After I hit enter and Windows loads the blue welcome screen 1 minute has passed. I hear the Welcome Audio music, however blue welcome screen is still there for 30 more seconds. Next is my picture that I have as my background that is shown without icons for 1minute 21seconds. Windows now displays my icons on my desktop. the icons blink at minute 4. after 4 minutes and 51 seconds I am able to use my computer. At bootup I only have 43 programs running and 357MB of the 1 gig ram taken.
What I have done:
1) I have started in safe mode and defraged my PC, 0% frag on all partitions except a drive that isn't currently plugged in and it was 1% because it's my backup drive (not worried about that 1%)
2)Removing all connected Componets and rebooted, same problem.
3) I have tried using msconfig.exe and setting the startup selection as Normal- it's defaulted to Selective. Tried reducing my startup programs. ....

On my desktop I had partitioned the main Hard Disk into 2 and had XP Pro on one half and Windows 7 on the other. When I used to boot up the PC the windows boot menu came up asking if I wanted to boot to XP or 7.Soon afetr this XP started crashing a lot. So I decided to scrap 7 and I've re-partitioned the Hard Disk into one big lump with only XP remaining. The partition that had 7 on it no longer exists. Why does my PC still start with the windows boot menu when I start it up?It still asks me if I want to boot to windows 7 or an earlier version of windows? Is there a way of stopping this?

I have a Dell Inspiron 2600, I have Windows XP. I don't remember anything particular happening, but one day the right click menu started coming up without me clicking, whether I was on the desktop, Netscape, AIM, Wordpad, etc. I re-installed my touchpad software, thinking that would solve the problem, but it has continued. It interfers with my typing, so checking and replying to emails is really difficult.

After updating my version of iTunes this afternoon I was of course prompted to restart my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6000), which I did. However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)

I am trying to run duel monitors on my pc I am running xp pro and I have a 1.8 cpu with 768mb of ram with 120gigs of hard drive space rewritable cd player and I have installed two video adaptors. The first one is NVIDIA GeForce2 mx/mx400 (Microsoft Corporation) this is the one that came with the computer.I just installed is ATE Technologies INC. mach 64 CT PCI video adapter. The computer recognized the second video adaptor but can not seem to install it properly the device manager shows the both of the display adaptors. The one I just installed has the problem it has the yellow explanation point next to it. Windows can not find the correct drivers I am guessing and it doesn't show up in the display properties dialog box.It shows a code 10 the device can not start. "whatever that is."

I would like my Numlock to be on by default when I boot my computer, but Windows is not doing that. When my computer boots, the NumLock is on at the beginning, but then when the first Windows screen comes on I can watch and see the NumLock light go out.
I am using Windows XP Home, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. I have gone into the Bios and made sure that Numlock is ON/ENABLED. I have checked the Windows Registry item, and it is set to "2". Also, the operating system has been registered with MicroSoft.
Where else in Windows can this be coming from? What else can I do/try to get the NumLock to be on at bootup?

I have what I want there. I don't need anything else. I don't want programs there that I rarely use and it's a pain in the to delete them constantly.
Even things I don't explicitly run. Real Player Updater ends up there when it runs in the background

first i get the HP blue screen. I tried F1, but i dont see my hard drive in the boot menu. I followed some steps in Hp's web site- took the cpu apart and unplugged both hard drives from the motherboard, plugged them back in. when i restarted ,i got the HP screen and then windows started to load up. After a few seconds the HP screen came back up and then the black screen: sk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. I also noticed that pressing F10 for system recovery does nothing.

when I edited my boot menu I left off the NoExcute=OptIn at the end of the boot menu line to load my system and was wondering if I can add this now without messing everything up ? I just found out what this option does and looks to me like a have to option. This is on XP Pro.

I have had this weird problem that seems random (i know computers arent really random but I cant figure out the cause). I have Win7 and WinXp in a dual boot working fine then after like a week of everything being fine my XP will not boot. I get to the Boot Manager and select XP and the screen just goes black and the system reboots back to the Boot Manager. I am having trouble finding the exact problem because I dont know win booting very well. I am assuming the MBR is fine because it gets to the Boot Manager fine. So I figure it is something with the WinXP partition. Win7 boots perfect. I have tried resetting up the boot with Easy BCD 2.0 beta (way better than 1.x) with no success.
This is not the first time this has happened, I end up having to either install XP fresh or do a repair install. I made a Acronis True Image backup and when everything was working then restored it with no success. I am getting really sick of this happening though because this is like the 6th time this has happened. The XP install is only used to game so it is bare minimum programs. I would appreciate any help in finding the route of the problem so that I can fix it instead of reinstalling the OS.

I keep getting this stop error on windows boot that says IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. From what I can find on the net its a driver that is causing this. I'd like to find what driver so I can fix it. Every now and then the machine boots so I can actually use the computer. I just need a way of identifying which driver it is.

I plugged my blackeberry into my computer - it has a new battery, though I don't know why that made a difference - and my computer crashed immediately. After the intel screen it brought me to a black screen with choice to reboot in safe mode, etc. No matter what option I chose, I was unsuccessful - just kept coming back to that screen. After troubleshooting I found my way to the blue screen with the error message stop: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x8AFFA800, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000) and that I should disable virus protection etc. I inserted my xp disc but don't know how to get the system to boot from that.

I have 4 or 5 year old Win XP Home Tiny desktop computer which is having trouble booting. Basically when booting up, right before the Win XP logo it reboots itself.I have disconnected all IDE devices except for the master hard drive (plus disabled them in BIOS), I have tried a different hard drive in the machine that I know is working and has XP Pro installed. The same thing happens with this hard drive - reboots. This hard drive also has Ubuntu installed, and the machine happily boots Ubuntu to the normak desktop, but for some reason won't boot XP!Also tried a third hard drive in this machine that is working with Win 2000 installed, again the same thing happens.
Next I tried the original hard drive in a working seperate machine which produces the same result again. Also tried removing the RAM from the original machine and inserting a stick of working RAM from my other machine which again makes no difference. All hard drives I've tried have the correct jumper setting (primary master).
Also tried putting the Win XP disc in the drive and booting to that, I get to the menu and try to do a repair (R), but a few seconds after the repair begins the system reboots (this is using the original hard drive). Also tried booting into safe mode, and last known good config on all drivers. The hard drive is being detected in POST and in the BIOS which I have set as the first (and only) boot device. When I turn off the auto reboot upon fatal error, I can see the blue screen of death with error code 'Stop 0x0000007B'.So looks like the hard drive might be knackered, but there must be something else aswell because my two other working hard drives don't boot XP (only ubuntu)

In trying to get rid of some adware, I attempted to boot my computer (P4 2.8 GHz, 1.5 GB Ram, Windows XP SP2) in safe mode. When I selected "Safe Mode with Networking", I was brought to a blue screen called a "STOP ERROR SCREEN" - basically it said that it had to stop the booting up of the computer or the computer might be harmed. It suggested removing any recently installed hardware and disabling BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. So I rebooted and got into windows normally just fine.
Then I decided to try just regular Safe Mode (without networking) - when I selected that option, the computer started to do it, then rebooted and prompted me if I wanted to boot into Windows normally or safe mode, etc...I tried Safe Mode again - same thing, a reboot. I tried Safe Mode with Networking again - and I got the blue Stop Error Screen again.
This is pretty strange (at least I've never seen it) and I'd really like to be able to boot into safe mode.

I have a problem J, I cant get XP to boot up. My pc blue screens mid way through the loading windows screen and then re-sets. I had a GPU hardware failure, after windows automatic installed some software a month or so ago (not sure what it installed as I wasnt using the pc at the time). My pc would not post and the mbos gave a GPU beep error message. I have just brought a new GPU and now I can get to the pc to part load. Tried using my recovery cd, but that only gets half way and then blue screens with a STOP 0x000000c2 error. I think its a driver issue but as Im unable to get into the recovery to troubleshoot further, im not sure what I can do. The only thing I can do is rig up my pc hd to my laptop as a slave, does anyone know any software that can check an OS that not being used on a hd? Is there anything else I can try? I have flashed the BIOS to the latest version.

As in the title, im faced with a permanent 7B BSOD stop error message on my pavillion laptop. My current knowledge indicates that is a boot loader error, and as you may naturally expect, i am desperate to fix it! I have tried using the advanced startup options to use the last configurations which worked and safe mode, but i get the same BSOD stop error. I placed my hard disk in another laptop and it boots fine, i have even been able to log in and use it as normal. However, when i put a hard disk running a perfectly fine copy of windows xp home to my pavillion laptop, i get the same 7B stop error.
My pavillion refuses to boot from CDs as well. It seems to me the problem isnt with my hard disk and the OS version on it, but with the remaining components on my laptop...but what could be the criminal? Would anyone be able to shed some light on my problem? Of course, I will provide more details as requested.
