Fix User Init.exe Disaster / Loops Back And Throws Back Up
Mar 24, 2008
I did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again. How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.
I bought my Dell 4700 about 6 months ago and was just going through the discs that came with it. I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
Are you guys having the same problem? Using IE7, when viewing a thread, if I hit the back arrow to go back to the page I was previously viewing, it doesn't move at all. It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.
I just moved in to my buddy from work, and decided to put a pass on my PC, since a lot of people go thru the house on weekends. I set up an account, gave it admin privileges, but when setup asked: "would you like to give that account access to files?" (or some similar question) I selected NO. When account loaded I couldn't get access to any of my files! The problem now is that I can't delete that new account, because it's the only account! I tried setting up another one with administrator privileges, but it doesn't ask that question anymore (would you like to give that account access to files?), so I can't get access? Do you know a solution, or a step towards getting access to files back?
My user accounts switched back to classic and i can't figure out how to get it back to fast switch. it said something about uninstalling client services for netware and i did that, but it still won't let me switch back.
I am trying to back up my docs and system when I do on either the wizard or the advanced mode-it still tells me "the back up file name could not be used: "Eackup.bkf" " please ensure that it is a valid path and the you have sufficent access."
I was wondering if someone knew how I can get my back button back. when I get into a site. it wont let me hit the back button at the top of the screen.
One of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one. When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?
I have Windows XP Professional SP2, Dell Inspiron 4000.Ever since I got my computer I've been using the account "Administrator." So all my files and settings are on it. Today I randomly decided to make a new account, unaware that Administrator would disappear. (Apparently, says Windows Help & Support, Administrator is only available in safe mode or when there's no other account.) So now I want to go back to Administrator, but I can't figure out how to delete the new account.
I'm running XP Pro on a HP laptop right now and it's decent but I was looking for an OS with less bloat and one that left a smaller memory footprint. Win2k seems like the best way to go. I basically use it for browsing, watching movies, music, email and maybe the odd old game of AoC or something like that. I also use it for wireless but that shouldn't be an issue because the client I use supports 2k.What kind of features would I be missing from going backwards?
I purchased norton ghost 2003 and an external hard drive to back up the whole of my c drive and recently my system crashed due to a faulty graphics card and memory stick and although the repairer recovered the files and i reinstalled my programmes but back up files are not working. I reloaded norton ghost 2003 and tried to run the programme but get a complicated error message and quite frankly find the symantec support very difficult to negotiate.
Had to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?
My PC is getting confused my A drive is the same, my C drive is OK but my D drive is now my E drive and my E drive has been given the letter F, how can I get them back to the way they should be
Once again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge.I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work. I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.
Whenever I restart my system, not every program in the Start Group loads. I have to log off and then log back on, and then most of the applications load. McAfee VirusScan, however, list as "disabled", and I have to reun servicesmsc to disable and then enable. WordPerfect DAD can only load manually even though it's in the start group. I don't think a System Restore will work because this has been going on for many months, and virtually immediately afer the system was built.
I have a hard drive out of a laptop that i am backing up all there files so i can reformat there laptop drive, how do I copy there regestery so that all there links to the programs would work.

Im having trouble backing files up on my computer. When i try to copy ANY file on my computer (cause ive tried to do some trial and error), it gives me this:"This file 'name' has extra information attatched to it that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected. Do you want to copy the file anyway? "I then click "Yes" but then it gives me another error about how windows has encountered an error while trying to copy the file. I have yet to read up on somebody who ahs had this problem.Ive read that is has something to do with the datastream that gets created within a file. I also read something about ADS, which I have no idea what it is. All in all, its a problem in which i am having trouble copying files from my NTSF drive (Harddive) to a FAT drive (CD/DVD).
First time with b ackup wizard but it will noy back up to DVD burner Had to use browser to poind to my D drive burner but when I tried to backup a valid file i use often on my C drive I got msg: Backup Utility The Back filename could not be used. "DMydatafile.bkf" Please insure its a valid path and that you have sufficient access
So i recently had to reinstally windows xp on my gateway laptop, The option I had to save some files I chose, so It created a folder - MY Back up on my C:/ drive. Now That it's been a while I want to delete that folder but it keeps telling me I can't that access is denied. any ideas how to get rid of this folder? It's almost 35 gigs on my 80 gig hard drive.
Click on START - RUN and type: Regedit (press ENTER). On the menu bar click on file, then export, choose where you want to save it, then enter a name for it in the box titled: File Name. At bottom put a tick in "All", then click on save. If you ever want to restore the saved version, just IMPORT it. System Restore (it should save a copy daily, but you can always create a restore point manually. The best method, in my opinion, is to download and run ERUNT. It's the best registry backup utility available.
I installed windows the other day and it wiped everything off the puter, is there any way to get it back?i had photos that i cannot get back and music etc, even some of my projects?
I have had an ongoing problem with reinstalling xp pro where my hal.dll file suddenly goes missing. I thought it was an old harddrive problem but it just happened with one I bought not half a year ago.
I've read other forums and help sites about expanding it from the cd drive (which says it can't be done when I try) creating a new boot.ini, and writing a new boot sector. I've even reverted back to fdisking and formating with a windows 98 startup disk which worked for me a few times but now is seeming useless.
I'm running XP and IE 7. I downloaded something bad (maybe spyshredder??) and it made my IE7 tabs stop working. I deleted the program and everything i could find related to it, but i can't get the tabs back. I've read thru lots of searches and forums and can't find anything to help me. I've tried many things. I did tools>options>setting tabs are enabled, but they don't work. Also did a RIES, and restarted the computer but they still don't work. I really like the tabs and want them back.
I bought a Toshiba laptop in January. Tonight, just randomly, everything got SUPER slow. Programs began to freeze and I'm having to continously restart. I'm currently on the family computer. I can't seem to find the problem. I've deleted a whole bunch of "useless" programs and files. I've done a virus scan, but still it doesn't seem to be working.I recieved a "Product Recovery" disc when I got my laptop that I'm going to use, but I just have a few things that I wanted to make sure about before I did. Hopefully somebody could help me.In the manual it tells me that once I use this disc, all my data will be erased. Okay, so I put all "My Documents" on a Back-Up Files file? Does that make sense? There was a program on my computer that I used for it. I saved the File that's titled "Backup" in My Documents. If I do restart my whole computer, erasing all the data from it, what's going to happen with my "Backup.bkf" file? Will it still be in my My Documents folder?
I'm so concerned with that because I have SO MANY things that I can't just throw away. I've tried sending most of my stuff to my e-mail, but my computer is being way to slow to do all my files and folders. I can't even compress them and send. It's like it has cancer. Can anybody help me? I feel like such an idiot, but this is the only time I've had trouble with this laptop. I really can't just go and get it fixed with a professional. We don't exactly have a lot of money right now.
I deleted my Content.IES folder a long time ago (like a year ago) and I can't get it back. Will somebody please tell me how to get it back cause without it I can't use Java stuff. Please don't tell me I have to reformat cause I can't do that. I have no disks to do so. I tried going to Temporary Internet Files and creating a folder but it wont let me, nor will it let me move a folder in it.
