Back Up A Registry?
Jul 16, 2005I have a hard drive out of a laptop that i am backing up all there files so i can reformat there laptop drive, how do I copy there regestery so that all there links to the programs would work.

Oct 18, 2004Click on START - RUN and type: Regedit (press ENTER). On the menu bar click on file, then export, choose where you want to save it, then enter a name for it in the box titled: File Name. At bottom put a tick in "All", then click on save. If you ever want to restore the saved version, just IMPORT it. System Restore (it should save a copy daily, but you can always create a restore point manually. The best method, in my opinion, is to download and run ERUNT. It's the best registry backup utility available.

Deleted Registry Comes Back
Mar 2, 2008While troubleshooting a failed internet connection (Windows XP Home, SP 2) I installed Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 (probably a beta version) that wasn't downloaded from the windows website. I've since uninstalled it, so I am now running IE 6, but IE 7 left something behind. Now, when I connect to the internet I get to my home page, but when I select a link I get a blank web page and the error message "Windows cannot find ˜(null). Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search.Through research on the internet I've found that the registry key "C93E5AB5-7B71-4C31-B6B2-7F922A551EFF" needs to be deleted to fix my problem. I've tried with no success. I've tried adding "Everyone" to the registry users, changing the permissions so all users can access the registry and tried to delete the key, downloaded Registry Fix software, I've tried deleting it using regedit and regedt32 and I've run the program IE7betakey.reg with no success.

Oct 5, 2005i have a problem with IE in the URL address bar i get "10 kinghost", this looks like a porn site. The pc is used by several staff members. I have run spybot, cw shreader, an MS anti spyware, norton antivirus. but nothing gets rid of it. Spybot finds 5 registry changes says it fixes them but when i run it again they are still there, are they the problem? Is there an easy way to remove. I have started using firefox instead, but find it slower, so want to revert back to IE.

Other than making a restore point, what is the best simple method to back up the registry, and be 99.999999999 % confident that you will be able to restore it should things go down the tubes. I would like to have a redundant backup in some method other than a restore point.

I ended up with a blue screen whining about not being able to load a registry hive, C:WindowsSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE in particular.So I google searched on my brothers machine for a way to fix it, which pretty much involved loading up 6 annoying Win XP boot floppies that takes days to load (Ok i'm exagerating a little there....) and getting into the Recovery Console to perform some copy/delete commands to get myself back to previous registry files.

Mar 24, 2008I did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

Jul 13, 2006I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

Mar 31, 2006Had to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?

Sep 5, 2008Once again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge.I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work. I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.
