Need something to back up & restore the entire Windows Registry, with emphasis on ENTIRE.I have been using a utility called ERUNT to back up and restore the Windows 2000/XP registry; but, I dicovered today that it doesn't restore the entire registry.Is there a utility anywhere that will back up and restore the entire registry, preferable a free one but doesn't have to be free if it's cheap?

System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.
I have a hard drive out of a laptop that i am backing up all there files so i can reformat there laptop drive, how do I copy there regestery so that all there links to the programs would work.

View 7 Replies View RelatedClick on START - RUN and type: Regedit (press ENTER). On the menu bar click on file, then export, choose where you want to save it, then enter a name for it in the box titled: File Name. At bottom put a tick in "All", then click on save. If you ever want to restore the saved version, just IMPORT it. System Restore (it should save a copy daily, but you can always create a restore point manually. The best method, in my opinion, is to download and run ERUNT. It's the best registry backup utility available.

While troubleshooting a failed internet connection (Windows XP Home, SP 2) I installed Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 (probably a beta version) that wasn't downloaded from the windows website. I've since uninstalled it, so I am now running IE 6, but IE 7 left something behind. Now, when I connect to the internet I get to my home page, but when I select a link I get a blank web page and the error message "Windows cannot find ˜(null). Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search.Through research on the internet I've found that the registry key "C93E5AB5-7B71-4C31-B6B2-7F922A551EFF" needs to be deleted to fix my problem. I've tried with no success. I've tried adding "Everyone" to the registry users, changing the permissions so all users can access the registry and tried to delete the key, downloaded Registry Fix software, I've tried deleting it using regedit and regedt32 and I've run the program IE7betakey.reg with no success.

I have run spybot, cw shreader, an MS anti spyware, norton antivirus. but nothing gets rid of it. Spybot finds 5 registry changes says it fixes them but when i run it again they are still there, are they the problem? Is there an easy way to remove. I have started using firefox instead, but find it slower, so want to revert back to IE.

My three PCs run XP Pro with all patches. I am going to give a try to making some registry changes to tweak some things. Other than making a restore point, what is the best simple method to back up the registry, and be 99.999999999 % confident that you will be able to restore it should things go down the tubes. I would like to have a redundant backup in some method other than a restore point.

I ended up with a blue screen whining about not being able to load a registry hive, C:WindowsSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE in particular.So I google searched on my brothers machine for a way to fix it, which pretty much involved loading up 6 annoying Win XP boot floppies that takes days to load (Ok i'm exagerating a little there....) and getting into the Recovery Console to perform some copy/delete commands to get myself back to previous registry files.
Which to my dismay, I found out that it took me back to the stone age (like when XP was first installed, infact to me it seemded like it had gone back even further).
I got the win32/rootkit virus, tried to reinstall XP pro and had a tons of problems now when I try to install xp all it will see is 132GB of my 500GB drive. I have two 500MB drives and for whatever reason it will only see 132GB or either drive.WHat can I do to get XP to see the entire 500GB so I can reformat the HDD's and start all over from scratch? I've tried and tried and treid but I can't get XP to see the whold hard drive and now I'm at a complete loss as to what I can do next?Is there some kind of program I can download that will restore my hard drives to new condition with nothing on them so I can reinstall XP from scratch so it will see both hard drives and all 500GB of each drive?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a pentium 3 933 mhz with a 40 gb hd. the hd had a 50/50 partition and i wanted to reformat the entire disk then make my own partitions and then re-install xp.
what i did:
1. i used a program called killdisk to wipe out the hd
2. used win98 fdisk to set partitions
3. plugged the hd in my other comp as a slave and used a pirate copy of xp pro to install on the drive
The hd wont load on my computer after setting it back to master drive with xp pro on it, all it says is 'verifying dmi pool data" my other comp asks me what OS to boot with every time, even though only one is present.
I have recently fallen victim to a nasty virus which tried to destroy my entire operating system. It kept sending me pop ups via IE and I guess I downloaded it off a facebook video to which it attached itself.kaboob or something. Anyway, I survived but haven't been able to restore my desktop function ability. First it said'restore my active desktop' but I couldn't. Finally I managed to restore about one eighth of my picture but can't get any further. The rest of my screen is white and that's where it stands now.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running an 2.2gh Athlon 64 with Media Center 2005 and a gig of Ram and an integrated 200x Raedon mobo. The system idle process is at 99-80 percent most of the time. However, at the bottom it says I'm running around 75-100% and when I go to the graph it shows really high as well. I just reformatted my enitre drive via recovery disc to try to fix this. (Also and i didnt want to try to uninstall the beta 2 of vista so it wasnt for the sole purpose of fixing the percent thing) I dont have a duel boot anymore and it has ran this way since the start AND since the reformat. Too bad i didnt notice this when i bought it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
