Backed Up My Entire Hard Drive - Registry Corrupted?

Jul 9, 2009

I guess I have a few options (as I have backed up my entire hard drive before the problem started), including hiriing someone if need be.
System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.

Corrupted Registry, No Floppy Drive For Regestry Check

Mar 23, 2007

I've blown my Win2K registry -- probably with an inopportune power loss. No backups, natch. And a complicated developer setup, probably on the order of days to rebuild ...

I found chkreg.exe on the MS site and was all set to try it when I realized ... my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. The only format it is available in (that I can find) at MS is floppy.

Will Not Boot / Hard Drive Corrupted?

Dec 12, 2008

Suddenly yesterday, my laptop would not boot into Windows.. runs windows xp normally. It would also not boot into safe mode.I took the hard drive out and took it to a colleagues office to get the data off with an external hd connector. He advised that my partition table had been damaged, and the data was not accessible via normal means.Wants to charge $150.00 to get the data off. At this stage, I am wanting to make sure I get my data back, so I authorized this but I am wondering, if anyone can speak to what might have caused this to happen.I do not remember installing any programs or doing anything subject prior to this occurring..

My Maxtor External Drive became corrupted and I needed to re-format the drive. Unfortunately, while Working in Windows XP I accidentally deleted the partition and the drive. Can get Windows to recognize my Maxtor Drive? When I deleted the drive I was working in the "Computer Management" Screen. I have tested 2 different external hard drive and both of them are not detected by the laptop too. When I tried it on other computer, both external cases work perfectly. I am not sure is it because of the usb driver is corrupted or what, but any helps is much appreciated. Thank you.

NTDLR Disaster - Could Make Corrupted Hard Drive As Slave

Mar 9, 2005

I had an NTDLR error, so I thought I could make my corrupted hard drive a slave on another computer so I could just get my stuff that way. Unfortunately when Windows XP started, it started checking the newly added slave and it took forever and started doing all this stuff, all I remember seeing is...deleting index entry yatta yatta. I don't know what it did!! But when I got into windows, all that was there what was originally on the root drive (c:/) like unzipped, My Shared Folder, and WINDOWS. NO MY DOCUMENTS, nothing..no way to even get to my user files with my favorites, documents etc. Yet, in the disk information when I right click it says the drive is occupied with the same amount as before - 80 gigs. I tried to defrag too and the files that I can't find otherwise were being defragmented! So how can I access these files? Windows xp recovery said it could not be fixed. I need this stuff, is there any other way to get it!? It's NTFS file format.

2. whether it is available for free?(doesn't matter whether it is a trial version.)
3. if I download it from the net will it work?

Not Sensing Hard Drive - Registry

Apr 25, 2008

My Dell Dimension 4600 is not sensing the hard drive (Seagate ST3120026A Ultra ATA) on boot-up. This happened on first start-up after I used a utility to find and delete temp files and rid the registry of obsolete links. (I know, .... my wife has already said it several times.) I can mount that drive as the second hard disk in my daughter's PC and read every bit -- no problems at all.I'm using an Ultra ATA cable, and I've tried the drive jumper in both Cable Sense and Master. Sounds like the drive spins up, but the bios just doesn't think it's there.

Editing Secondary Hard Drive's Registry

Apr 27, 2004

I am unable to successfully boot up Win2K on my one hard drive because Symantec Ghost is failing to load. Specifically, the error message reads that the Logon User Interface Failed: File c:/Program Files/Symantec/Norton/Ghost/ginastub.dll has failed to load. There is no other option but to restart and it just comes back to this message. All support I have found about this message points to deleting the ginastub.dll Registry key. However, I can't not get to that hard drive's registry because (1) windows does not load, (2) since windows does not completely load, I can not edit the registry through the network. So, I am left with adding the HD as a slave to another computer and editing the Registry that way. Does anyone know how that can be done, editing a secondary hard drive's Registry?

Installed Hard Drive / Uploaded - Registry Damaged

After you install the cleaner program you will not recieve any more reminders or pop ups like this one". I went to that page and it wants to charge me to sign up for a registry cleaner. This box pops up every 2 minutes or so . I've tried other registry cleaners and pop up blockers, spyware removal, deleting cookies, add/ remove programs, everything I can think of but to no avail. I know that it's hiding somewhere but I'm not too computer literate to go to far into my system without the proper help.

Corrupted Files - Registry And Shut Down

Feb 25, 2010

Since January my computer started getting error messages about corrupted files, corrupted registry, and drivers stopped working. I tried different things and ended up formatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows. Things were fine for a while, but after a week I started getting messages about corrupt files again, having issues with drivers, and now Windows won't shut down properly. Also, the computer powers off of its own accord sometimes. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I haven't made any hardware updates recently.

Some of the error messages I've been receiving are. For Bluesoleil (which I have uninstalled and reinstalled) it says that the file is corrupt and to try an anti-virus scan (I tried to copy the message, but the window went off on its own). AVG anti-virus keeps on saying there are no active components, or replacing all the commands with things beginning with @. The drivers for my Logitech Fusion webcam stopped working, but I've reinstalled them, and they work, for now. The Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer kept on corrupting. I've also had the message 'Windows - Registry Recovery One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy.
