Installed Hard Drive / Uploaded - Registry Damaged

Apr 14, 2007

I just recently installed a new hard drive and uploaded windows xp professional. To my surprise I continue to get this box that pops up and says" Critical error message! Registry damaged and corrupted. To fix this problem: open IE and type www.registryxp.com Once you load the web page, close this message window. After you install the cleaner program you will not recieve any more reminders or pop ups like this one". I went to that page and it wants to charge me to sign up for a registry cleaner. This box pops up every 2 minutes or so . I've tried other registry cleaners and pop up blockers, spyware removal, deleting cookies, add/ remove programs, everything I can think of but to no avail. I know that it's hiding somewhere but I'm not too computer literate to go to far into my system without the proper help.

Got A Black Screen - Damaged Hard Drive

Apr 8, 2007

I got a black screen, and the hard drive wouldn't boot. I took 3 old hard drives that I thought were still good, but after I formatted each one, I got a message that the hard drive was damaged . . . something else was wrong, like an improper connection . . .
finally, I hooked up a new Hitachi Hard Drive, and formatted it . . . and lo and behold I'm getting the same message.

It's possible the 3 older hard drives could have become damaged, but when the brand new Hitachi gives me the same message

If Hard Drive Is Damaged? / Correcting Error In Index

Jan 7, 2005

I tried to reformat my hard drive. When it got to a certain point where it was checking the disk it got to 20% then hung or stopped. Did this three times. I have tried to run CHKDSK and have been unsuccessful. I get messages during the operation that say "file record segment is unreadable.

Once phase 1 is finished, I get messages that "correcting error in index" and replacing orphan files (or sometthing to tthat effect). Not long after that a message appears that says "an error has occured" and the computer continues to boot. Please note that my computer tries to run through CHKDSK everytime I boot. I want to reformat but it seems impossible.

System File Damaged / Clicking Noise Coming From The Hard Drive

Jul 19, 2006

My prob is a bit of a saga I defragged my Win XP Media PC a few days ago and then I noticed a clicking noise coming from the hard drive, I called PC servicecall managed to find a freephone number and the chap suggested I do a scandisk, he said to call back with the diagnosis later.

After the PC did two scandisks I managed to stop it when it was about to do a 3rd, I rebooted the PC and it loaded with no 'start' button or clock on the taskbar, so I rebooted. Then I got a message saying 'it can't load as a file was missing or corrupt windows/system32/configuration/system' it said to put in the original CD and type 'r' to repair.

Well the PC didn't come with any CD's and I only have one that I made after I'd had the PC for a month - a recovery disk.

So I called PC Servicecall back and told the guy what happened and I've got another harddrive arriving tomorrow - trouble is I need to get the info from my hard drive before I send it back to them.

I've looked at MS support site and there's options to do a manual repair (I'll copy and paste info here)
Method 1: Replace the SYSTEM Hive
Method 2: Restore the SYSTEM File from the SYSTEM.ALT Backup File
Method 3: Reduce the Size of the SYSTEM File
Method 4: Restore the SYSTEM Hive from Backup

Which all sound hunky dorey but I don't have any original bootable CD (the PC doesn't have a floppy drive), so I can't type 'r' to repair!!!!

In my possesion I do have an XP Pro CD, a Win2000 CD and a Win98 CD - my question is can I use these other CD's to try a 'repair' and get into the 'manual' area to try the methods above (the OS is Win Media Edition on the PC)?

Maxtor Hard Drive - Failing In Repairing Damaged Clusters And Segments

Aug 2, 2005

I have a hardrive( Maxtor 6Y200P0) wich have got corrupted and bad segments. (this seme to be a common problem with Maxtor drives) Im almmost sure this drive have psychical damaged clusters, cause i have tested alot & alots of tools that should fix this has failing in repairing this damaged clusters and segments. this includes Maxtor official PoweMax v 1.21, wich fails to complete the surface test. i have got an Error Diagnostic Code=de676679. a code with a 8 numeral should indicate that a Maxtor Drive drive is broken, and is in need of replacement. thats all i know where should i send this code for a real analyz?, cant find anything on Maxtor Website, Another question, there is allso an option to do a Low ore High level formatation of the drive. I have heard that this could fix corrupted segments, If so,this must only be possible on logical damaged hardrives, not psycial damaged drives right? i have waiting with reformatation cause im unsure what type damage the drive have, and this is my last alternative to do.? should i do a low/high level formatation anyway?

Not Sensing Hard Drive - Registry

Apr 25, 2008

My Dell Dimension 4600 is not sensing the hard drive (Seagate ST3120026A Ultra ATA) on boot-up. This happened on first start-up after I used a utility to find and delete temp files and rid the registry of obsolete links. (I know, .... my wife has already said it several times.) I can mount that drive as the second hard disk in my daughter's PC and read every bit -- no problems at all.I'm using an Ultra ATA cable, and I've tried the drive jumper in both Cable Sense and Master. Sounds like the drive spins up, but the bios just doesn't think it's there.

Installed OS - Possible To Replace Hard Drive

Aug 24, 2008

In addition to my other posting here, I want to ask you professionals, if it is possible to mirror my existing hard drive onto a much larger hard drive? My partition C became way too small over the years, the Windows XP files have blown up their size. Partition D (which contains all installed programs) is still fine. But I was never able to use software like "Partition Magic" to adjust the space between these two partitions. So I might just have to buy a new hard drive. But I want - I even HAVE - to keep the installed XP the way it is now. Lots of software installed. So I wonder, if there is any way just to "mirror" the existing version of XP onto a new hard drive, and then just to exchange the old hard drive with the new one?

Editing Secondary Hard Drive's Registry

Apr 27, 2004

I am unable to successfully boot up Win2K on my one hard drive because Symantec Ghost is failing to load. Specifically, the error message reads that the Logon User Interface Failed: File c:/Program Files/Symantec/Norton/Ghost/ginastub.dll has failed to load. There is no other option but to restart and it just comes back to this message. All support I have found about this message points to deleting the ginastub.dll Registry key. However, I can't not get to that hard drive's registry because (1) windows does not load, (2) since windows does not completely load, I can not edit the registry through the network. So, I am left with adding the HD as a slave to another computer and editing the Registry that way. Does anyone know how that can be done, editing a secondary hard drive's Registry?

Backed Up My Entire Hard Drive - Registry Corrupted?

Jul 9, 2009

I guess I have a few options (as I have backed up my entire hard drive before the problem started), including hiriing someone if need be.
System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.

Installed New Hard Drive / Getting Boot Failure Error ?

Sep 2, 2009

I did a new hard drive install. When the new HD was complete I thought I would copy the data from the old drive to the new. They both still had os installed They were both connected to the system at the same time. When I finished, I removed the old drive. The new drive wouldn't boot. "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". After recovery disk completed, the system booted fine. I could reboot from the shutdown option.

The problem I have is when the system is shutdown completely. It requires the system disk again. It will reboot after the system disk is reinstalled. I continually get the "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" error message.During bootup after a shutdown, I can F2 into the bios before the error message. It will allow me to exit and then windows will boot without the error message.

Installed New Hard Drive / System Crashed / Drivers Missing?

Oct 22, 2007

Installed new hard drive, along with XP Home (recovery disk). Before my system crashed all my motherboard drivers were on D: partition.XP loads okay, but it is unstable - for example I cannot start msconfig under "Normal" start up. It crashes. I will not list all the BSOD - but XP doesn't like something.I have no devices connected apart from basic graphics card (which XP loaded the drivers for okay). I am waiting for XP Pro to be delivered, so I am hoping that my unstable XP will become stable after I upgrade (or full installation) of a retail version.

Prior to installing my current XP (one time of at least 30 others - as kept crashing),I tried to load my motherboard drivers from the disk my manufacture supplied.is it possible that my XP Home is unstable BECAUSE I do not have my motherboard drivers loaded? That might seem a naive question - but I honestly do not know, and I've started to become a tad paranoid as these problems have been ongoing for 5 weeks.

Installed New Hard Drive On Dell Dimension E521 Desktop

The windows xp installed just fine on my pc but the problem I've run into is the drivers, the disk that came with it wouldn't work so I went to dell's website put in my service tag and downloaded all the drivers that it says my pc needs. everything installed ok except for my broadcom, which is not allowing internet, my warranty on this computer is out so I can't get any advise from them without paying a fee even though I bought the hard drive from them, and the computer! Just hoping I could get some help, and wondering if I have to install vista for everything to work right.

Changed Boot Drive Letter And Now PC Won't Boot - Installed New Hard Drive

He had trouble loading the drivers for his HP printer. He would get an error saying that a C: empHP_WebRelease folder was missing. He did manage to figure out that for some reason when I installed XP it called the Boot drive "I" instead of "C"

I have a damaged OEM CD and the expired CDKEY that came with it from maximum activations as I was having BSOD problems which then was discovered to be bad RAM. The company I bought it from is now bankrupt and non-existant. Now I am left with a CD that makes a great coaster and a CDKEY that has expired from activation. When I first installed it 1 support request was already used? I had made one request and registered it with Microsoft so it has to be on archive even if it hasn't been used.Since I can't copy and paste.
